March 13, 1958, high winds blew down two huge cottonwood trees at the home of Mrs. Irene Palmer in north Wray. Two chimneys were knocked down, and her heating plant was out of service for a few days.

Gladys Marie (Palmer) Thomas was born on November 21, 1933 in St. Francis, KS, to Olive Belle (Kirkendall) Palmer and Ralph Orville Palmer. She passes from this life Saturday November 6, 2010 at the age of 76 years of natural causes at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Gladys was married to James William Monroe Thomas, November 25, 1955, in St. Francis, KS. James passed away in 1993. Gladys was a homemaker for many years. She enjoyed writing letters, taking photos, reading the Bible, and listening to music. Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Durfee of Texas, Charlene Eaves of Wichita and one son Jody Thomas, two brothers, Harold Palmer of Colorado Springs, Eldon Palmer of Goodland, two sisters, Vera Beneda of Goodland, Valeria Coleman of Bird City. Those preceding her in death were her parents, Olive Belle (Kirkendall) and Ralph Orville Palmer, her husband, James William Monroe Thomas, one sister, Ila Theye. She's buried in Burlington, Colorado. |
Mrs. Glen Stearns died at her home two miles south of Arapahoe [Nebraska] on Monday forenoon after an illness of three weeks. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereafed husband and three little children. On account of the family being quarantined for scarlet fever no funeral services were held. Short services were conducted at the cemetery by Rev M.C. Galloway of the Methodist Episcopal church and the Rebekahs, the Rebekah brothers acting as pall bearers. Mamie S. Hamilton was born July 1, 1893 at Bedford, Iowa. She became a member of the Christian Church at Bedford, Iowa, when she was fifteen years old. She was graduated from the Bedford high school in 1911 and taught school one year. She was married to H.G. Stearns at Bedford, Iowa, August 4, 1912. To this union were born three children; Mahlon Dallas, age 8, Virginia Ruth, age 4, Sara Marie age 21 days. After an illness of three weeks she died at her home near Arapahoe, January 14, 1924 at the age of 31 years, [blank] months and 14 days. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, three children, her mother and three brothers, Howard S. Hamilton of Fairbault, Minn; Leon R. Hamilton of Bedford, Iowa; Mahlon S. Hamilton of Maryville, Mo; and four sisters Mrs C.C. Chapman of Arkansas City, Kans; Marilla Belle Hamilton of Omaha, Nebr; Mrs Harl Fuller of Conway, Iowa, and Violet Hamilton of Omaha, Nebraska. |

Bernice E. Mayer, 87 of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully at home with her family near on Oct. 20, 2007. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Guy Walton officiating. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Bernice was born July 22, 1920 in Cope, Colorado to Glenn Lester and Violet Rebecca (Merritt) Craig. She attended Denver University in Denver, Colo. and graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Neb., receiving her Teachers Degree. She taught in Pagosa Springs, Colo. and Reno, Nev. She married in Denver. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Annette Rae and Bernard Duran III of Scottsbluff. |
