Harrison and Nora (Rice) Follon , Joes



In 1900 Garfield County, Oklahoma Charles Follon, born August 1867 in Iowa, married 2 years to Lillis Dec 1868 Iowa, have Harrison M. Feb 1889 Kansas, Flossie B. Aug 1891 Iowa, Glenn O. Oct 1893 Kansas, and Fred October 1899 Oklahoma.

In 1905 they're in Franklin County, Kansas, with Harrison 17, Flossie 15, Glenn 12, and Rudolph 6.


Flossie Beryl Follon was born August 4, 1891 at Jackson, Shelby County Iowa to Charles Follon and Lillis Jane Bougman.
She was a seamstress in 1915 Salem Oregon, at the same address as Charles T (Lillis), Glenn O. a stenographer, and Rudolph a student.
Flossie Beryl Follon and Alven J. Meiklejohn married September 21, 1915 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Salem, Oregon.
"Mr. and Mrs. Meiklejohn will spend the winter in College Place, Washington. They will be greatly missed by theri wide circle of friends in Salem."


At her home, 1504 North High street, April 11, 1916, Mrs. Lillis J. Follon, aged 47 years.
She is survived by her husband, C.T. Follon; two sons, Harrison Follon of Cope, Colorado, and Rudoph Follon of Salem, and a sister, Mrs. Burel Meikljohn, of Walla Walla, Washington.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of Rigdon & Richardson. Rev. H. G. Thurston will officiate and burial will be in Odd Fellow's cemetery.

"Charles Thomas Follon, late resident of 1180 N. 16th st., in this city May 9, at the age of 82. Survived by daughter, Mrs. Beryl Meikklejohn (fag = Beryl Meiklejohn 141544181) of Denver, Colo.; son, Rudy Follon on Salem; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, May 11, at 3 p.m. at the W. T. Rigdon chapel with interment at IOOF cemetery.

Follon of Salem; mother of Rudolph Follon of Redmond, Ore., and Mrs. Beryl Meiklejohn of Denver, Colo.; sister of Tom McKiever of Iowa; and sister-in-law of Mrs. Minnie McKiever of Illinois. Also survived by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two nieces, who reside in Chico, Calif. Member of Jason Lee Methodist church. Services will be held at the W.T. Rigdon chapel Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Raynor Smith officiating. Interment in Lee Mission cemetery."
Nora Elizabeth Rice was bornr May 27, 1886 at Pomona Kansas to George L. ice and Lizzie Clements.

In 1900 Franklin County, Kansas, George Rice born Aug 1857 in Kansas, married 18 years to Lizzie Dec 1856 Ohio, have Lemuel Dec 1883, Nora May 1886, Dora May 1886, Bessie Nov 1889, Jessie Nov 1889, and Maggie June 1897.
George Lewis Rice 1857-1915 is buried in Douglas County, Kansas, # 63901550, with Lizzie 1856-1922 # 63902853.

December 4, 1922 Ottawa Kansas "Mrs. Lizzie Clements Rice died Saturday night at 8 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Homer Hackett of Williamsburg. Her death was caused by a stroke of apoplexy she suffered a year and a half ago. She had been in failing health since. The funeral was held this morning from the Hackett residence at 10 o'clock, with Rev. J. W. Tweed of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Thomas Farney, Mrs. Charles Horne, H. B. Eagle and William C. Fogle sang "Nearer My God to Thee " "Beautiful Isle" and "Shall We Gather at the River." Mrs. E. A. Thomas was the accompanist. Pallbearers were Emmett King, William Hackett, Dr. L. Harlan, Joe Harrison, Frank Perkins and John Harrison.
Interment was in Baldwin cemetery. The deceased was nearly 66 years old. She was born December 17, 1856 in Highland County, Ohio. She was married at Lyndon to George L. Rice, November 16, 1881. Mr. Rice died January 11, 1915. The deceased came to Baldwin in 1876 and the Rice family moved to Williamsburg in 1883. Mrs. Rice lived there until 1912 when she went to Ness City to make her home with a son, L. A. Rice. Six weeks ago she came to Williamsburg, where she died.

Five of the seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Rice survive. All attended the funeral. They are Mrs. Homer Hackett, Williamsburg; L. A. Rice, Ness City;' Jesse Rice, Garfield; Mrs. Nora Follon and Mrs. Irene Cross of Joes, Colo. Mrs. Rice was a member of the Methodist church and of the Fraternal Aid Association."

So is Dora Isabelle Rice - 1885-1918 # 62828481.
When Lemuel Rice died 1883-1960, survivors included "a brother, Jess, Pomona; and a sister, Mrs. Irene Palwer (Should be Palmer) , Wray, Colo."
Irene is buried in Cope # 159064524 1896-1967 "Irene's 1st husband was George W. Cross. Irene and George divorced in Yuma County, Colorado in 1929. She married her 2nd husband S. M. Palmer on May 28, 1929, This marriage is recorded in Yuma County, Colorado."

The 1907 Ottawa Kansas city directory has Charles T. (Lois J.) Teamster living at 926 E. 75th, with Harrison M. Follon, a farmer at the same address.

September 23, 1912 Ottawa Kansas "Mr. and Mrs. Charles Follon and their family, who live at Eighth, and Burroughs streets, were pleasantly surprised last evening by a number of their friends and neighbors. The affair was arranged as a farewell gathering for Mr. and Mrs. Follon and their family, who plan to leave Wednesday night for their new home in Salem, Oregon. The time was spent with games and musical selections and sixty guests enjoyed the evening."

The Hutchinson Kansas 1915 directory has Harrison M (Nora) Follon, a laborer, living at 1420 N. Monroe.

January 14, 1915 Ottawa Kansas Herald "The funeral of George Rice, formerly of this county, and late of Ness county, was held at Baldwin at 11 o'clock today. The body was brought to that city yesterday. Mr. Rice lived at Pomona for about twenty-five years removing about five years ago. He was 57 years of age and is survived by the widow and five children. This morning the following relatives left this city to attend the funeral: Mrs. Joseph Bingaman, a sister, and husband; Harry Rice, a son, and wife of Olpe; Mrs. George Rice, widow, Ness county; Jesse Rice, a son, wife and daughter, Ness county; Lem A. Rice, son, New Salem; Dora Rice, daughter; C. E. Rice, brother, Le Loup; Mrs. J. C. McClellan, niece; H. M. Follon, Hutchinson."

December 1915 "Harrison Follon, who finished husking corn for Walter Nikkel, is now husking for Ray Bond."

Harrison Martin Follon registered for WWI with an address of Cope, born February 19, 1889 at Waumega, Kansas, farming, married.

Harrison M. Follon proved up two quarters in 10 and 15, 4S 48W, a little north of the Arickaree river, in 1919.

In 1920 Yuma County, Harrison and Nora have Beryl 2 and his brother Charles P. 20, Oklahoma.
This is Charles Rudolph Fallon, born Oct 23, 1900 - he had registered for WWI in Salem Oregon, a truck driver.
Charles was back in Oregon in 1930, a truck driver, 30, married to Martha A. 26, with Delores L. 8 and Naomi F. 7.

Harrison Fallon is buried in Yuma # 49689635.
March 23, 1922

Ottawa, Kansas Herald "Friends here have received word of the death of Harrison Martin Follon at Joes, Yuma county, Colorado, on March 6. The Follon family moved from Ottawa about six years ago. Mr. Follon was born in Warn ego (perhaps Wamego) in 1889. He was married to Nora E. Rice at Hutchinson in 1914."

November 1923
1927 "Mr. Rice, of Garfield, Kansas, has been visiting his sister Irene Cross and Nora Follen. Mr. Rice was also looking for a new location. He ahs rented the C.C. Snyder farm and will move his family next week. This will add to our number in high school, as Mr. Rice has two children in high school."

1927 "The family of Jesse Rice have arrived from Garfield, Kansas, and the youngsters will be enrolled in school at this place."
Jesse C. Rice 1889-1961 is buried in Franklin County # 57173074, with Catherine E. 1890-1959.
Another sister, Bessie married John Homer Hackett, and is buried in Douglas County, Kansas, 1889-1934 # 62831045.

February 21, 1929

February 1931 " Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smith were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Nora Follon in Yuma Saturday."

June 1931 "George Cross visited a dentist in Yuma Saturday. His children, Twyila and Wayne, accompanied him to town and were dinner guests at the hoome of their aunt, Mrs. Nor Follon."


December 30, 1943
June 1944 Yuma "Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson returned from Denver."
July 13, 1944 "E.L. Otta and family, who had been residing on the Jas. Knudson farmin the Joes Community, have moved to Yuma nd established their home in the reesidence which he purchased from Mrs. Noar Follon. The latter and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, have moved to the Knudson ranch, having purchased livestock and equipment from Mr. Otta."

Beryl Lucile Follon was born June 14, 1917 at Joes, Colorado, and died as Beryl L. Johnson March 11, 2001.
She was living in Vancouver, Washington in 1986, when she attended a 50th class reunion.
She's buried in Vancouver, Washington # 79295703.
