Charles E. Tegner, daughter Clara V.  , sons Carl and Harry, Jaqua

In 1880 McPherson County, Kansas, Chas E. Peterson is farming, 26, Christine W. 30, both born in Sweden.  Carl E. 3 and Harry B. 1 were born in Illinois.

In 1881 Leadville, N.O. Tegner is a laborer at the La Plata Smelter.

1882 Leadville city directory has Charles Tegner, a laborer at 815 W. Chestnut.  Oscar Tegner, also a laborer, lives at the same address.

1883 Leadville "Charles Peterson has had his name changed to Tegner.  He didn't gain much on the score of euphony."

March 12, 1888 - Leadville Colorado   One tree said she was Selma Augusta Tegner.

April 1889 Leadville - Carl Tegner was on the honor roll at the Central School, Room 4.  Maybe he's the one registering for WWII in Los Angeles, born July 12, 1878 in Sweden, working for the Salvation Army.

October 1889 Leadville - Harry Tegner was neither absent nor tardy in Room 3 at the Central School.

October 24, 1889 "Mrs. Charles Tegner ... is still in a dangerous condition."

November 19, 1889

 Charles cash-claimed a quarter in 33, 4S 42W in 1891, and proved up another in 1897.

In 1900 Lansing precinct, Charles is widowed, born Oct 1853 in Sweden, with son Harry L. Nov 1878 Illinois and Clara B. Nov 1880 Kansas.

1905 Wray "C.E. Tegner, of near Jaqua, Kansas, was in town a few days looking after business and looking over some of the town property with a view of purchasing.  Mr. Tegner is talking some of locating in the county seat."

Clara proved up one in section 28 in 1909.

In 1910 Wray - on Republican Street - Charles is 56, working out as a farm laborer, Clara is 28, teaching school.

In 1920 Wray, still on South Republican Street, Charles is a janitor at the high school, Clara V. no occupation.

Charles Tegner 1853-1929 is buried in Leadville  # 130246380, and #130246420 has Christine 1849-1889 buried there.

CARL EDWARD

Nellie R. Tegner, daughter of Jas. K. Campbell and Elizabeth Browning, died Sept 5, 1938 in Pierce County Washington, age 59.

In 1880 Doniphan County Kansas, James is 34, Mary 33, , Nellie ten months old.

In 1900 El Paso County, Colorado, Carl is a laborer, born June 1877 in Illinois, Nellie R. August 1879 Kansas, married one year.  She's had one child none living.  Next household is James Campbell, also a laborer,  born Jun 1845 in Kentucky, Mary Nov 1846 Kentucky, with Mattie August 1885 Kansas.

In 1910 Pierce County, Washington, Edward "Tagner"  is 32, Nelley 31, with James 9, Josephine 6, and Cletis 4.

James Tegner 1901-1917 is buried in Puyallup # 36770666.

Nellie's parents James K. 74 and Mary E. 74 are in Pierce County in 1920.  James died 1924 and is buried in Woodbine Cemetery, too. # 36769692, with Mary 1846-1923. # 36769703.

In 1920 Pierce County, Washington, Ed Tegner is a clerk in a grocery store, 42, born in Illinois, with Nellie R. 40 Kansas, Josephine 16 Colorado, Cletis H. Winnie G. 8, Virginia M. 2, and Robert F. eleven months, the last four born in Washington.

In 1930 Pierce County, Edward and Nellie have only Winnie 18, Virginia 12, and Robert 11.

Edward C. Tegner, per  # 36769726, is buried in Puyallup, Washington 1877-1955, with Nellie R. (Campbell) Tegner 1879-1938.

In 1930 Denver, on South Race street, Clara is a stenographer at a library, and her niece Winnifred G. 18, born in Washington, is with her, no occupation.

Clara is a steno in 1940 Denver, living alone.


September 27, 1956

Clara Tegner was recorded in a Denver 1956 executrix appointment.

HARRY

Jill052 wrote on Ancestry "Back says, "Tegner Ranch, Jaqua Kansas.  This was in a box with family photos of Remley's and Browning families. My Great Aunt Rettie Browning, married a Tegner. I think this was his father's farm because from the census records, Rettie and her husband, Harry, never lived in Jauqa, KS or Cheyenne Co. Charles Tegner and his children, Harry and Clara, did in the 1900 with neighbors of the Remley's and Brownings. I have a township map showing the plots of land of neighbors. Will try to post it also."

1912 Wray "Harry Tegner of Akron was in Wray transacting business and visiting relatives."

Harry Leonard Tegner registered in McCook Nebraska, born November 15, 1878, working for the CB&Q railroad, relative Retta Tegner of McCook.

In 1920 McCook, Harry is a flue blower for the railroad, 40, Retta 41, Oscar 19, Lawrence 15, Gerald 13, Mamie 11, and Bennie 7.

In 1930 Denver, Harry is a laborer doing odd jobs, Retta 51 Kansas.  They have Gerald R. 20, Colorado, Mayme C. 21 Colorado, Ben 17 Colorado, Hadley 15 Nebraska, Lloyd 12, Kansas, and Robert 8 Kansas.

Mayme Tegner married George A. Hobbs July 12, 1930, recorded in Denver.

In 1940 Denver, Harry L. is with daughter Mayme Hobbs and her husband Geo. Hobbs, and so is Gerald  Tegner 33.  no occupation for either Tegner.

Harry Leonard Tegner was listed in a Denver 1953 probate administration.

FindaGrave # 59425429 has Retta (Browning) Tegner 1879-1969 buried in Crown Hill, Jefferson County, Colorado.

# 59425422 has Gerald 1906-1995 in Crown Hill.
