Roy Lester, father Ory Lester, Hughes
Ormill Bryant Lester, born about 1857, married Emma L. Platt, born about 1876, in Illinois.
I am searching for any information on the family surnames who
lived in Johnson County, NE around 1875-1910: LESTER and PLATT.
According to sources at this website, 'Ory' Lester (which was a nickname
for Ormill Bryant Lester) owned a meat market in Tecumseh in 1890. He
married Emma Platt in 1876. They had five children: Etta, Ellie, Minnie
Bell, Roy, and Edna. Ory's brother, Ennis L. Lester, was included in the
Johnson County Photographic and Biographical book. The Platt family came
from Dearborn, Indiana to Johnson county, and lived there about the same
years. I am looking for obits, marriage certificates, school
records...well, just about anything...on this family. Carol A. Haagensen The parents of our subject Purdy Platt - Johnson County, Nebraska numbered in their family circle eight children, whose names we mention as follows: Purdy, our subject; Sarah, the wife of Clark Wicks, of Nemaha County; Alfred, of Helena Precinct; Daniel, who is residing in Dearborn County, Ind.; Victoria, who is married to Enos Lester, of this county; John, who is in Kansas; Emma, now Mrs. Ora Lester, of this county, and Ennis, also living in this county. Oswald Haagensen proved up two quarters in section 10, joining the Lesters, also in 1916. Oswasl Marquis Haagensen was called up in 1918. He was probably the son of John Hans Haazensen born in the Virgin Islands, who married Mary Catharine Estes in Iowa in 1863. In 1880 Adair County, Iowa John ohn and Mary have Frantz 16, Edmond 13, James 11, Mariah 8, Albert 5, and Oswald 2. In 1920 Yuma County Oswald M. is 42, Edna N. 30, Daniel L. 9, Alton O.7, Lois N.. 3, and Lemont L. 2. Edna M. (widow of Oswald) is in Laramie, Wyoming in 1955 Daniel L (ruth( manages a dairy, Lamont L. (Margie E) is a repairman for PFE. In 1959 she's still there. Dan is now a maintenance man for the Ivinson Hospital, and Lamont is a mechanic at Hanson Motors. |
In 1900 Johnson County Nebraska Leroy is 16, with his mother Emma. They had been in Saline County in 1885, with Emma being 26 and Oran 28.
In 1900 Nuckolls County, Nebraska Ory, born Dec 1856 in Michigan, is living by himself, farming.
Ory married Emma Lester Jan 12, 1903 in Fillmore County, Nebraska, but in 1910 Nuckolls County he's divorced, living with the Phil Elder family. Kinda confusing marital arrangements, but it looks like Roy is Ory's son.
1911 "Ory Lester and family arrived from Nebraska Monday, to make their future home Eastern in Colorado."
1913 "Mr. and Mrs. Ory Lester came down from Denver yesterday. The trip was made in order to pay a visit to their farm, some 20 miles south of Yuma."
Roy and Ory each proved up two quarters in 15, 3S 48W in 1916.
Ory's witnesses were John Stiles, Earl Stiles, Harry F. Higgins, and Mearl Fletcher.
Roy's witnesses were William Kuffler, Charley Gearhart, Charles Goodin, and John Larson.
Leroy registered in Yuma County, saying he was born September 30, 1883, and nearest relative was Lenora Lester.
In 1920 Leroy - a real estate agent from Nebraska - and Nora Lester of Iowa, both 36, are in the town of Yuma. They have Doyle 7, Verna 5, Pansy 3, and Leroy three month.
In 1930 they're in Denver, where LeRoy is a butcher in a packing company. Doyle is 17, Verna 15, Pansy 13, LeRoy Jr. 10, and brother-in-law Tyndall Beavers, 24, Nebraska
Leroy is widowed in 1940 Denver, with son Jerald Doyle Lester 27 and daughter Patricia 23.
Ory is in Loveland in 1920 - a fruit farmer, 63, Michigan. Bertha is 55, born in Germany.
In 1922 Fort Collins Fred Specht transferred a lot to Ory Lester et al.
In 1930 Drake- Larimer County - Ory and Bertha own a tourist camp. "Lester's Cabins and Stores, 15 miles Big Thompson Canyon Road"
