James W. Doane, Hughes

In 1900 Washington County, Kansas, James H. Doan, March 1871 Iowa has been married one year to Elisabeth A. Oct 1877 Illinois.  They have Estella F. Oct 1899, Kansas.

In 1910 they're in Decatur County, Kansas, James 39, Elizabeth 32, Fay S. 10, Gladys M. 6, and Ira M. 2.

James proved up two quarters in 6, 3S 48W in 1916.

In 1920 they're in Baca County, Colorado - Fay is not with them, and they have Gladys M. 15, Mifred J. 12, and Elmer W. 9.

James H. and Anna B. Doane divorced in Washington County in 1925.

In 1930 Kirk James is widowed, living alone.  He's widowed in 1940 Kit Carson County, saying he was in Washington County, Colorado in 1935.

James Henry Doane is buried in Kirk, Mar 10, 1871 Henry County Iowa, dying in Hugo COlorado Mar 19, 1965.

Elizabeth was born to James Henry Boston and Ella Katherine "Katie" Van Tuyl. She was the third of eleven children.
 
She first married James Henry Doane on 4 Jan 1899 at Washington Co., KS. They had six children. They divorced. She then married Eugene Poe, October 30, 1926. They had no children."
 

One child is Gladys M. Bentley 1904-1980, buried in Las Animas, Colorado.  Gladys Doane married Frank F. Bentley April 15, 1922.

Milfried I. Doane, Oct 3, 1907- June 6, 1980 is buried in Brush, Colorado.

Faye E. Ritchie Oct 23, 1899- Apr 6 1988 is buried in Flagler, Colorado. - W. A. (Arthur) Ritchie.    Faye Stella Doane married William Ritchie Nov 26, 1916.  They were in Baca County in 1930, the household following Frank and Gladys M. Bentley.

 

Wayne Elmer Doane, 90, of Akron died Tuesday at the Washington County Nursing Home in Akron.

Doane was born Nov. 9, 1910, at Washington, Kan., to James Henry and Elizabeth Anna Doane. He traveled to Arkansas and then to Baca County by covered wagon when he was 7 years old.

In 1922 Doane came to Washington County with his mother, brother and sister. They came by covered wagon, driving a small herd of cattle.

Doane attended Edville School where he met his future wife, Bernice Margaret Spencer. They were married March 14, 1932, at St. Francis, Kan. They lived one year near Arriba and a year and a half north of Flagler. In 1935 they moved back to Washington County. In February, 1937, they moved to Roy, Mo., where they spent one year, returning to Washington County in March, 1938.

The Doanes rented farms for three or four years prior to purchasing a farm two miles east and five miles south of Anton where they lived until January, 1993, when they moved to their home in Akron.

In addition to his parents, Doane was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, and four children: Velma Jean Morris, Veda June Morris and two children who died in infancy; a brother, Milfred Doane; two sisters, Faye Ritchie and Gladys Bentley; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

He is survived by one son, Marion Doane of Arvada; four daughters: Joyce Miller of Akron, Shirley Larreau of Windsor, Bonnie Porter of Lindon and Helen Mock of Colorado Springs; one sister, Lois Kidder of Mesa, Ariz.; 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great-granchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Doane's memory to the Washington County Nursing Home or the Akron Head Start.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. from the Akron United Methodist with Rev. Ramon V. Robledo officiating. Interment will follow in the Akron Cemetery with Brenner Funeral Home of Akron in charge of arrangements.
