William Heindel was born in Galesburg, Illinois, in 1870, the son of
Bavarian immigrants, John and Hedwig (Kunkle) Heindel. He came
to Wray in 1887 with his parents. Sophie Renzelman was born in Bremen
in 1877 and came to the United States with her parents William and Wilhelmina
(Lintelman) Renzelman. After a stop in Missouri the Renzelmans settled
south of Wray in 1888. William and Sophie were married in 1895 and had
eight children.
William Heindel was a prominent figure in early Wray
history. He was a carpenter and general contractor, served as
town council member, mayor and school board member, was joint and later
sole owner of an automobile garage and dealership. After he 'retired'
he served a further 22 years as Yuma County Road Supervisor. Sophie died
in 1949 and William in 1956. They are buried in Wray's Grandview Cemetery.

This is William's father - July 4, 1918 "William Heindel,
senior member of the firm of Heindel & Speicher, Model Garage, met with an
accident last Friday by which his right leg was badly wrenched and sprained
at the knee joint, making an exceedingly paniful wound.
The wound would not have been so serious were it not for the fact that it
was the leg that he had amputated below the knee several years ago,
but being as it is proving a very serious affair and one
that has kept him in great suffering ever since it ocurred.
He was on a ladder reaching for a tire when he missed his
footing and fell on a barrel, receiving the injury
mentioned."
William Heindel 1870-1956 is buried in Wray # 81626649.

"Thursday, June 27, 1967 Wray Gazette
Funeral services were held for Ted A. Heindel Monday at the Methodist Church
in Wray with Rev. David McKay officiating. Interment was at Grandview
Cemetery.
Mr. Heindel was born on October 16, 1905 to Mr. and Mrs. William Heindel, Sr.
and passed away at the Wray Community Hospital Thursday, June 22.
The late William Heindel, Sr. and other members of the family started a
Chevrolet agency in Wray in 1912 and was purchased later by Ted Heindel under
the name of the Heindel Garage. He owned and operated the dealership for 33
years. In 1958 he sold the Chevrolet agency to Bill Olsen to devote more time
to the Butte Motel which was built early in 1957. Mr. and Mrs. Heindel owned
and operated the Butte Motel for the past 10 years until recently when the
motel was sold. He was a former member of the Rotary Club and Wray Commercial
Club.
A daughter, Dianne Heindel Walz passed away in July of 1963. He is survived
by his wife, Dora and one son, John; three brothers, Bob of Dallas, Texas,
Bill of Casper, Wyoming and Chris of Wray and three sisters, Marie Keenan of
Denver, Kathryn Shroyer and Bertha Brownlee of Greeley and seven granchildren.
