George Franklin Likes and Elizabeth E. (Huffman) Likes, Friend

In 1900 Franklin County Kansas, George F. born May 1883 in Illinois is with Elija C.  March 1857, Florence G.  December 1862, Bessie L. 13, J. William 10, and Glenn D. 2.

Elijah C. 1837-1929 and Florence G. 1862-1932 Likes are buried in Wellsville, Kansas.

In 1905 Franklin County, Kansas George, 21, is with his parents and younger siblings.

 George is in the 1908 photo in the Idalia saloon.

In 1910 Idalia precinct George  and Elizabeth are both 26, married two years.

George proved up two quarters in 14 and 23, 5S 45W in 1914 - south of Idalia a few miles.

He registered in Dicksonson County, Kansas, saying he was born May 26, 1883, and ran a meat market and hotel.

In 1920 Dickinson County he still has the meat market, and they have  Mercle S. 4, born in Colorado.

In 1930 Idalia George and Elizabeth have "Merele", Howard H. 12, and George J. 6.

They are not in the 1934 or 1937 Yuma County directories.

George died  in 1935 and is buried in Burlington - so is Elizabeth 1883-1955

In 1940 Palm Beach, Florida, Elizabeth L. is married to Ray N. Hawley- he was in Erie Pennsylvania in 1935, she was in Burlington, , Yuma County, Colorado.  With them are Howard H. 20 and his wife Donnie 19, born in Georgia, and George F. 16, born in Colorado.

In 1945 Palm Beach Howard is an auto paint and rapairman, with  Dannie and daughter Judith, 2.

In 1952 West Palm Beach, Howard H. is an insurance appraiser, married to Dannie C.

 Howard Huffman Likes, Sr. born March 16, 1920, died September 14, 1996 in Asheville, North Carolina.

SPARTANBURG, SC-- Dannie Curry Likes, 88, of 250 Hollis Drive, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at RoseCrest Healthcare Center. Born January 21, 1921, in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of the late J. B. and Lucille Sumner Curry and the wife of 58 years to the late Howard Huffman Likes whom she married August 27, 1938. She graduated from high school in Milledgeville, GA, and attended Palm Beach Junior College. For 35 years she and her husband owned an auto appraisal firm in West Palm Beach, FL. Upon their retirement they moved to Asheville, NC; and after the death of her husband, she moved to Spartanburg to be with her son and family. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Her many hobbies included knitting, basket making, jewelry making, rug making, quilting, sewing, needlepoint, and she was an artist who painted many still-lifes. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Likes Strickland and her husband Lonnie of Great Falls, MT; her son, Howard Huffman Likes, Jr. and his wife Janice of Spartanburg; her sister, Lawanda Brogden of Columbia; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and her loving canine companion, Logan. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Converse Baptist Church, 325 Main Street, Converse, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Godfrey. Visitation will be at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303; to RoseCrest Retirement Center, 200 Fortress Drive, Inman, SC 29349 Alzheimer's Association , 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home of her son, Howard Likes, 250 Hollis Drive, Spartanburg. - 

George F. Likes - May 29, 1923 - Nov 7, 1978 is buried in Loudon, Tennessee.

Mercle Leone Likes, Van Horn, Tiff, 95, passed away on November 14, 2010, in Longmont, Colorado. Born on April 12, 1915, to George Franklin Likes and Elizabeth E. (Huffman) Likes in Yuma County near Kirk, Colorado .

She lived on the family homestead until graduating from high school in Kirk, Colorado . She then went to live with her Aunt Estelle in Florida, to go to Secretarial School. She returned to Wray, Colorado, and took a job in the Welfare Office at the Yuma County Courthouse, where she met and married Raymond Van Horn who was a widower with six children. To this union, another six children were born. Raymond Van Horn then was killed in a farming accident, leaving her with six small children when she then met and married neighbor Frank Tiff in June of 1956. From this union, two more children were born. They sold their ranch in Western Kansas and moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to ranch there. The Tiffs then sold the ranch and bought a motel in town, then moved to Oregon and then moved back to Colorado, to the current city of Longmont in 1971, and have made it their home ever since. Mercle was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Howard Likes and George Likes; her first husband, Raymond Van Horn; stepchildren Frank Van Horn, Buddy Van Horn, Link Van Horn and Mary Van Horn Edwards; and her own son, Butch Van Horn, and daughter, Ellen Van Horn Meents. She is survived by her husband, Frank Tiff; stepdaughters Edith Van Horn Roundtree, Lois Van Horn Zuege, and children, Betsy Van Horn Truax Zimmerman, Larry Van Horn, Rick Van Horn, Roger Van Horn, Cindy Tiff Church and Steve Tiff; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010, at Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Chapel. The celebration-of-life service for Mercle will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010, at Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Chapel, 503 Terry St., Longmont, CO. Interment will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
