In 1880 Warren Derby, 20, born in New York, is with Samuel 55 and Matilda 41, both New York. in Seward County, Nebraska. Siblings are Harry 23, Ransler 21, Dan 15, Katie 11, and Earl 4.
In 1885 Saline County, Nebraska, S.S. and Matilda, with Earl 9, born in Wisconsin, are farming. In the next household are W.W. Derby, 24, H.H. Derby 28, both male, and sister Kate R. 16, all three born in New York,

In 1900 Saline County Nebraska, Warren, born May 1861 in New York, has been married eleven years to Mattie J., May 1869 Iowa. She's had two children, one living - "Milie" E. April 1898 Nebraska.
Goodland, Kansas 1901 "Mrs. Matilda Derby left yesterday for an outing at Colorado Springs." She was vice-president of the charter W.C.T.U at Goodland in 1902.
In 1905 Goodland "Mrs. Matilda Derby was called to Lincoln, Neb. Saturday by a telegram announcing the death of Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd's son, at Lincoln. Mrs. Shepherd is a daughter of Mrs. Derby. She was accompanied by her son, R.S. Derby." This is another Matilda Derby - wife of Earl Derby, with a son Daniel - she stayed with him when her house burned in 1907.

Millie was a teacher at Pleasant View school 1916-1917 in Marshall County.
| Lee Warren Doyen, 91, of Concordia, died Feb. 2, 2013. He was born
July 26, 1921, to Millie (Derby) and Orville Doyen. He was the oldest of
four brothers. He married Peggy Block on his birthday in 1947 in
Emporia, They had three children. He grew up in Rice. He started first grade at the Rice school at age four and he graduated from Concordia High School at age 16. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1944 with a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics. He later earned a master's degree from Colorado State University. After graduation from K-State, he was in the 18th Class at the United States Midshipman School in Columbia, N.Y. After release from the Navy, he became a teacher. He taught 15 years of high school vocational agriculture in Leon, Mulvane, Beloit and Concordia. He worked eight years as assistant manager of North Central Kansas Production Credit Association. He taught at Cloud County Community College, started the agribusiness program and was department head for 20 years. The North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture awarded him the Teaching Award of Excellence in 1981 and the Distinguished Educator award in 1989. He retired in 1988. Lee participated in sports. He lettered in basketball and baseball at K-State and earned a lifetime pass to all K-State sporting events. He pitched semi-pro baseball for teams around Wichita 1946-56. He coached girls basketball at Leon High School. He officiated 25 years of high school basketball, coached Kiwanis K18 baseball and coached seven years of community college baseball. He believed in community service. He was active in Boy Scouts of America local and district committees and earned the BSA Silver Beaver Award. He served on the Concordia Recreation Commission, the Cloud County Community College steering committee and, after retirement, served on the community college's board of trustees. He served seven years on the Concordia city commission and served as mayor twice. He was active on the Cloud County Historical Society Museum board and the Cloud County Convention and Tourism committee. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masons and the Texas Date Nail Collectors Association. He served Kiwanis as a district governor, and in recent years participated in Rotary. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the building committee. He is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home daughter Ann and husband Donn Walters of Dallas, Texas, daughter Carol and husband Floyd Hockersmith of Manhattan, and son Kent and wife Julie Doyen of Riley. He has five grandchildren: Hal Hockersmith, Deshler, Neb.; Van Hockersmith, Salina; Sarah Walters, Dallas, Texas; Grant Doyen, Manhattan; and Kurt Doyen, Riley. His surviving brothers are Ray Doyen and wife Peggy and Ross Doyen and wife Katherine, Concordia, and Mark Doyen and wife Marjorie, Bartlesville, Okla. He has seven nieces and nephews. |
Warren and Mattie are in Marshall County Kansas in 1920, 1930, and 1940.
