John Henry and Sarah Elizabeth (Smock) Wheeler, Fox
In 1880 Holt County, Missouri, Joseph Smock is 31, born in Missouri married to Lydia, 23, born in Iowa. They have Sarah 5, Henry 3, and newborn George.
John H. Wheeler and Sarah E. Smook, both of Nodaway County were married March 29, 1894 in Nodaway County.
In 1900 Holt County John H. Wheeler, born Feb 1873 in Missouri, has been married six years to Sarah E., born Jan 1875 in Missouri. They have Herman R. May 1895, James H. July 1856, and Walter D. Sept 1899 - all five born in Missouri. In their household is William H. Smock, Aug 1877, a farm laborer, and Joe and Lydia Smock, Sarah's parents. George R. Feb 1880, Clara E. Oct 1887, and Leslie July 1890 - all inlaws, are also with them.
On the same page is another Smock household, headed by William H. born August 1847 and Hattie December 1850, with their four kids.
1909 "Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smock and daughter, Myrtle, of Skidmore, Missouri, are visiting at John Wheeler's this week."
In 1910 Idalia precinct are John Wheeler, Sarah, with Bremen, 15, Homer 12, Walter 10, Marie 8, Dale 5, and Ellen six months, all born in Missouri.
1911 "Mrs. John Wheeler who lives on the Conrad place west of Idalia, is seriously sick this week."
1913 Idalia "Mr. Smock and wife took charge of the hotel Monday."
1913 "Walter Wheeler is staying with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Smock, this week."
1914 "John Wheeler, wife and son, Homer, and Henry Smock went to Wray Tuesday. Mr. Smock has been here visiting his parents, Joe Smock and wife, and his sister, Mrs. Wheeler, for several weeks."
1918 James Homer Wheeler of Mildred registered, as did John Henry Wheeler of Mildred, with nearest relative Sarah Elizabeth Wheeler.
John proved up two quarters in 13, 3S 46W in 1919. Witnesses were Emil F. Brunswick, David Anderson, Walter Moore, and William Campbell, all of Mildred.
In 1920 Mildred precinct John and Sarah have Vernon, Jasper 28, Walter 10 (should be 20), Marie 18, Dale 15, and Ellen 10.
1922 "Joseph Smock died at the John Wheeler home southwest of Vernon, Monday, July 10, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 10 days. The cause of his death was paralysis Mr. Smock was born in Missouri Dec 26, 1847. The body was taken to Maitland, Mo., for funeral services and burial. Mr. Smock had been in failing health for about four years."
In 1930 John and Sarah are in Loveland - he's a laborer - with Ellen 20 and Jasper 12 - both born in Colorado.
In 1940 Loveland John and Sarah have her mother Lydia E. Smock, 82, with them.
John Henry Wheeler - Feb 24, 1873 - May 5, 1954 and Sarah E. Wheeler - Jan 25, 1875 - Jan 26, 1946, are buried in Lakeside, Loveland.
Mrs. Lydia Smock Dies Mrs. Lydia Ellen Smock, 89 years of age, died at her home in Loveland, Colo., this morning. She formerly lived in Skidmore and had lived in Loveland the last 20 years. She was a member of the Methodist church. She was born June 17, 1857 in Iowa and married Joseph Smock, who died in July, 1922. She is survived by two sons, Henry Smock, Graham, and Lee Smock, Skidmore, 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Groves cemetery. Berman Russell Wheeler registered in Yuma County, born May 15, 1895 in Skidmore, Missouri, single. - May 11, 1895- Oct 13, 1954 - is buried in Palisade, Colorado.
Walter Donald Wheeler registered in Yuma County - born Sept 15, 1899, was farming for John Bathier of Vernon.
FindAGrave has him Sep 15, 1899 - July 29, 1947 buried in Miriam Cemetery, Nodaway County.
Joseph D. Wheeler - Oct 2, 1904 - Jan 1971 is buried in Hawthorne, Mineral County, Nevada.

about my "Wheeler" family (sounds pretty typical). This is what I do know: My father was Stanley Eugene Wheeler. He was born in Loveland CO on 4 Sept 1932. He died on 7 April 1995 in Bremerton, WA . His parents were Joseph Dale Wheeler and Ivalou A. Stewart, both deceased. |
