Clarence W. McCAULEY was born on June 20, 1916, to Hugh J. and Hulda McCauley in Hastings, Neb. He was one of seven children. He passed away on June 22, 2007, just after his 91st birthday, at the Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, Colo.

Clarence was a baptized member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Clarence attended school through the eighth grade. He begged his parents to move closer to Yuma, Colo., so that Hugh and Pauline could attend high school. They agreed; however, they put the responsibility of the two teenagers in Clarence's hands at the age of 19, as his parents remained on the homestead.

Clarence was in the Army for five years (January 1939-December 1945); at that time he was honorably discharged.

He was always ready to go wherever he was needed and serve his country. He became injured; therefore, he was not allowed to serve overseas during World War II. So he served at the McGuire Hospital in Virginia, caring for the wounded soldiers returning from overseas. During his posting at Camp McGuire, he assisted in renovating an older home into a hospital that helped care for those wounded soldiers.

After returning back home to Yuma County, Colo., Clarence married Mollie (Peggy) Eckas in January 1949 in Fort Collins, Colo. At that time Peggy already had three married children (Esther, Bernice and Harold) with families.

Then in 1954 they homesteaded in Yuma, Ariz., where he resourcefully developed the cactus- and mesquite-covered desert into productive agricultural land.

In March of 1969, Clarence and Peggy returned to his parents' homestead southeast of Yuma, near Mildred. In 1971, Clarence lost Peggy in a tragic single-vehicle accident.

In 1972, he married Juanita and became a dad to her four children (Jerry, Curtis,

Sheryl, Victor). He was a good dad to Juanita's children, helping to raise them as if they were his own.

Clarence will be remembered for having a kind and generous heart. He was always ready to lend a helping hand both physically and financially to anyone who needed it.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Hulda; first wife, Peggy; also by siblings Marie, Melvin and Pauline.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; siblings, Susie, Hugh and Art; and all his kids and all those who he has touched and affected through his life.

The funeral service is being held on Friday, June 29, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yuma, Colo, with Pastor Allen Yount officiating. Baucke Funeral Home of Yuma is directing the service.

In lieu of flowers, Clarence's favorite charity was  The New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches,  P.O. Box 9, Boys Ranch, NM 87002-0009.

The depression years were difficult but she enjoyed a close loving relationship with her siblings that endured throughout her life. She attended rural and Yuma schools and married Walter Harrah in 1933. They farmed, operated Phillips 66 filling stations in and near Ft. Morgan and eventually moved to Ft. Collins in 1941 where Walter worked for Markley Motors. He later owned and operated North College Auto Service until retirement. Susie was a bookkeeper for Ft. Collins Sheet Metal for 15 years.
