The Sunday school scholars of Mrs. Dakan, Mrs. Andrew Cole and Miss
Patten were entertained at the home of the latter last Friday evening,
celebrating the hundredth anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The house was
artistically decorated with flags and bunting. Mrs. Atkinson, Mrs,
Osborne and Mrs. Chrismer assisted the teachers in entertaining tlio young
folk. Games were played until 10:30 when a dainty lunch was served, one
feature of which was a beautiful cake made by Mrs. Dakan and decorated in
the national colors. Those present were: Misses Edna Petrie, Mary Rush,
May and Nellie Atkinson, Louise Alves, Grace Kirk, Ruby Woodward,
Virginia and Grace Osborne, Messers Lester Dickson, Frank Brown, Leonard

friends and relatives of the contracting parties. After a sumptuous
Christmas dinner the young couple left on No. 13 for Denver for a week's
sight-seeing trip, when they will return and continue to reside in Yuma
county. The Pioneer joins their large circle of friends in wishing them
none but pleasure and prosperity in their journey through life."

On Sunday the 23rd of October, children of William Petrie, of Yuma, gathered
at Yuma to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of their father. The celebration
was held at the home of a son, R. W. Petrie. Those present were: Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Frantz and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Frantz, nephews and nieces, of
Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Petrie, of Yuma; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Weekley and
two daughters, of Yuma; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Miller and daughter, of Wray; and
Mr. and Mrs. A1 Miller, of Wray and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Price and Howard. A
delicious birthday dinner was enjoyed by all those present after which
family group pictures were taken. Mr. Petrie is one of the county's
pioneers, having settled northeast of Yuma in the year 1887. He has lived in
the city of Yuma for the past twenty years."

Mrs. Amy Miller has been in Denver for the past two weeks to be near her
brother, A. L. Petrie of Yuma, who is a surgical patient at Mercy hospital.
Mrs. Petrie is also in Denver and a brother, Reid Petrie of San Gabriel,
Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Edna Weekley of Berkeley, Calif., have also come
to be with their brother. Mrs. Miller's daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Price, spent Sunday and Monday in Denver with the family.
In 1951 Edna was living in Berkeley.

"Albert R. Petrie, nephew of Mrs. Amy Miller of Wray and the youngest of
seven children born to Hayden J. and Gertrude Petrie, was born in Omaha, Neb.,
on August 21, 1901, and passed away July 15, 1956, at Glockner-Penrose
hospital in Colorado Springs where he had been a patient for 15 months. He
was buried at Lamar where the family had lived for nearly thirty years. His
mother died when he was less than a year old and the father in 1907. He then
lived with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Petrie, and later with an
aunt and uncle. Mr. Petrie enlisted in the army in 1920 and after two years
returned to Yuma where he was a barber. He was married to Miss Dorothy Young
at Ordway on October 2, 1927. They moved to Lamar where he continued to
barber and where their six children were born. His faithful wife Dorothy,
three sons, Bill, Roger and Tommy who are at home, and the three married
daughters, Shirley Felton, Audrey Steele, and Roberta Lubbers and their
husbands, eight grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, Dora Nelson of
Cope, Alice Barr of Loveland, Minnie McCalla and Edna McCalla of Eckley,
Ralph Petrie of Longmont and Harry Petrie, are left to mourn his loss along
with many other relatives and friends.

"Mrs. A. E. Miller received word this week of the death of her brother, Ried
Petrie of Whittier,Calif., who died February 16. Burial followed on Monday
in California. Mr. Petrie was born six miles northeast of Yuma in July of
1892 and was the son of William and Emily Petrie. He was married to Eva
Blach of Yuma in 1916 who died in California on Christmas Day 1954 Five of
their seven children survive their father They farmed in the Yuma community
before moving to Grand Junction in the 30's. They later established a home
in California. He is survived by his wife Pearl, five children. 12
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Amy Miller
of Wray and Mrs. Edna Weekly of Berkeley. Calif."

Mrs. Ernest Price and her mother, Mrs. Amy Miller, went to Denver on
Sunday morning to attend the golden wedding festivlties honoring Mrs.
Miller's sister and husband, Mr and Mrs. Wesley Weekly of Berkeley,
California. The party was at the home of their daughter. Mrs. Charles
Robeck, who brought Mrs. Miller and the Weeklys to Wray on Wednesday. Mrs.
Price returned home Sunday night by train.
