In 1870 Will County, Illinois, William Curtis is 50, Ellen Curtis 43, (Ellen's first husband was James Pritchard. She married William Curtis on 1 January 1870.) Rachel Curtis 10, Clarra Curtis 8, MargaretCurtis 6 (Lulu's mother), and Sarah Curtis 5.

September 1911 Waverly items "Mrs. Margaret A. Lockard has proved up on her homestead. She will soon move to town and leave her baby son to cook for himself."
Conley & Hatcher are building a poultry house, a granary, and a machinery shed all combined. Mr. Jim Lockard is assisting in the work."

March 4, 1937 " Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Greenfield attended the funeral of Mrs. Lockard ; in Yuma Saturday."

In 1910 Yuma County, Hadley is 35, Louisa J. 23, married four years, with Henry E. 1.


June 1913 Waverly items "Robert Eyestone and family and H.E. Railsback and family were visitors at the Frank Woodward home Sunday." (Frank was my great-uncle- his son married an Eyestone girl.)

July 1914 "Mrs. J.E. Railsback of Prosser, Washington, who has been a guest at the home of her son, H.E. Railsback, left Monday evening for Kansas City."

In 1920 Yuma County, Hadley E. Railsback is farming, 45, Lulu O. Railsback 33 Wife, Henry E. Railsback 11 Son, and Hazel M Railsback 9 Daughter.

Hazel was attending Waverly school in 1924.

H.E. Railsback married Alice Northcutt in September 1928 in Yuma County.

1928

Hazel Railsback taught at Pleasant Valley 1928-1929.

August 1929 "Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Railsback and family of Norcortor, Nebraska, are visiting with his brother H.E. Railsback and family."

" On March 7 1875 Hadley Enoch Railsback was born to William and Maria Brown Railsback in Harrison County, Mo.
His parents moved to Morton County, Kans. when he was a child and there he grew up.
On March 11, 1906 Hadley Enoch Railsback and Lulu J. Lockard were united in holy wedlock. In October of that same year this young couple moved to Colorado to settle on a homestead where they spent 47 happy years.
The home was blest with the arrival of two children, Henry Everett, now of Ellensburg, Wash. and Hazel M. Flynn, now of Fernald, Iowa.
Hadley had been a member of the Yuma, Colo. Methodist church for 15 years, and attended the Nevada E.U.B. church since living here.
Hadley Railsback died Aug. 11, 1958 at 5:30 p. m. at the age of 83.
Preceding him in death were his parents, 6 brothers and one sister.
Surviving him are his wife, Lulu, his son, Everett, his daughter Hazel, three grandchildren, Floyd Railsback, Corpus Christi, Tex., Karan Selby of Azusa, Calif. and Galen Flynn of Fernald. Also three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Those here from a distance for the funeral of Hadley E. Railsback, were the son, Everett Railsback of Ellensburg, Wash., the grandson, A. M. Floyd Railsback of Corpus Christi, Tex., where he is stationed in service and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Young, a nephew and niece from Joes, Colo., also Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Rhodes of Baynard, and Mr. and Mrs. James Flynn of Ames."

Lulu June Lockard, the daughter of William and Margaret Lockard, was born Aug. 26, 1886 in Norton County, Kans. She attended school and grew up in that community. She taught school in a public school near Norton.
On March 11, 1906 she was married to Hadley E. Railsback. In October of that same years, they moved to a homestead near Yuma, Colo., where their two children were born and raised. They moved to Nevada in 1952. She was a member of the E.U.B. Church and the Royal Neighbors Lodge.
The Railsback celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Merrill Flynn, in 1956. Her husband died in August of 1958.
Lulu continued to live in her home until Feb. 13 of this year, when she suffered a paralytic stroke. She was confined to the Story County Hospital until April 13, when she was moved to the Miller Suncrest Nursing Home. Here she suffered two more paralytic strokes, which finally took her life June 8 at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 18 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters.
She is survived by one son, Everett of Ellensburg, Wash.; her daughter, Mrs. Merrill Flynn of Nevada; three grandchildren, Floyd Railsback of Providence, R. I.; Karen (Mrs. Bill Selby) of Azusa, Calif. and Galen Flynn of Nevada; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Railsback of Norton, Kans.; six great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held for Lulu J. Railsback at the Ryan Funeral Home, Monday, June 11 at 1:30 p. m., with the Rev. Robert Link officiating.
Organist was Miss Beeula Settle, who accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Lois Klilne as she sang, "In the Garden" and "Near to the Heart of God."
The casket bearers were Harry Angle, Iver Cook, Lyle Flynn, Los Harmon, Joe Pevestorf and Guy Selby.
Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.


HAZEL AND MERLE

March 1943 Waverly items "Mrs. H. E. Railsback returned last week from a ten days visit with her daughter, Hazel Flynn and family, who now reside in Iowa.

"Hazel Marie Flynn, 80, of Nevada died July 11 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was born May 1, 1911, at Yuma, Colo., to Hadley and Lulu Jane (Lockard) Railsback. She was married to Merrill Dale Flynn on May 25, 1934, at Sharon Springs, Kan. and lived her life as a homemaker. She was a resident of Nevada for 41 years and a member of First Christian Church, Nevada. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Ardyce Selby of Nevada; one son, Merrill Galen Flynn of Nevada; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Henry Everett Railsback of Ellensburg, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation was held last Friday at Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada. Services were held Saturday at First Christian Church, Nevada. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established."

April 19, 1928 "Buffalo Grass school, with Everett Railsbck as teacher, celebrated their closing day Saturday with a basket dinner."

September 1928 "Everett Railsback of Yuma and Alice J. Northcutt of near Yuma were issued a marriage license in Wray last Saturday, Sept. 1. Both young people are well known in their community. Mr. Railsback is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Railsback and Miss Northcutt is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Northcutt..

March 1947 "Alice Railsback and Clifford O'Connell wer united in marriage."

August 1959 "Mrs. Jane Northcutt of Yuma, accompanied Mrs. Alice O'Connel of Denver to Arkansas City, Kan., August 1. Mrs. O'Connell is a sister of Ernest. They attended the 50th wedding anniversary reception of an uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Northcutt, on Sunday and returned home Monday."

" Alice married Henry Railsback in 1928. They had one son, Floyd Alvin Railsback in 1929. Not exactly sure when the marriage ended, but she married Cliff O'Connell about 1956. This marriage did not last long. She married Russell Rozek in 1960 in Denver. She stayed there until she died in 1979. She is buried in Denver. All three husband's outlived her." " On 15-16 April 1930 Everett Railsback (22) and wife Alice (19) rented a home in Precinct 15, Yuma County, Colorado. Everett was farming. Note: It says "out side Yuma town" on original image of census, but index has Yuma.
On 5 April 1940 H. Everett Railsback (31), wife Alice I. (29), son Floyd A. (10) and hired hand Raymond R. Ruberg (22) lived in Yuma County, Colorado.
H. Everett Railsback married Grace Tierney on 6 September 1947 in Kittitas County, Washington.
He married Marjorie McFarland on 7 May 1960 in Walla Walla, Washington."
In 1942 Everett came to Washington State from Yuma, Colorado to work in the Seattle shipyards during World War II. In 1945 he moved to Ellensburg, working various jobs before becoming master mechanic for the City of Ellensburg. He retired from the city on September 6, 1973. Following his retirement he enjoyed assisting friends with their automotive needs.
He and Marjorie married on May 7, 1960 in Walla Walla. She preceded him in death. Mr. Railsback was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Ellensburg Lodge No. 39 Free and Accepted Masons, Afifi Shrine, Scottish Rite, Masada Shrine, York Rite, Eastern Star, Kittitas County Field and Stream Club, Thorp Grange and Eagles.
Survivors include his stepson, Jim McFarland and wife Jeannie of Thorne Bay, Alaska; daughter-in-law, Jean Railsback of Oak Harbor; grandsons, Bill Railsback of Bend, Oregon; Don Railsback of Vancouver and Richard Railsback of Seattle; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Floyd and one sister.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, February 14, 1994 at Steward & Williams Chapel in Ellensburg. Reverend Steve Trotter will be officiating. Concluding service and burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery.
