RICHARD M. LEWIS
He cash-claimed two quarters in section 19, 4N 46W in 1891. Then in 1898 a Richard M. Lewis tree-claimed a quarter in section 25, 4N 47 W - about two miles away.
He might be the Richard M. Lewis in 1880 Racine, Wisconsin, an express clerk, living with two other men with Mary Johnson, a washerwoman.
That matches the Richard Lewis, 14, in 1870 Racine, with Richd 40 and Jane 48 Lewis. Dave, 8, is one of his siblings.
In 1900 St. Louis a Richard M. Lewis born August 1856 in Wisconsin of Welsh parents, is a clerk in an express company. He's living with brother David M. and his family, David is also a clerk at an express company.
(David Morgan Lewis's Missouri death certificate of 1945 said he died on the Greene County Farm, and his body was "Removed" to Racine Wisconsin. Census on 1930 said he was divorced. Informant was D.M. Lewis of Minden, Louisiana When his son Kenneth registered, he said he was born in Omaha, Nebraska, so they might have gone west with Richard.....)

May be coincidence, but Eliza L. Lewis "formerly Eliza L. Campbell" tree-claimed a quarter in 5N 47W in 1898. In 1898 she was delinquent $5.68 in taxes on that quarter.

Any help greatly appreciated

Grandpa Andy was 22 years senior to Grandma Liza. (her name was actually (Louisa Emaline Campbell).
Eliza was the postmistress of Sabula she
was the wife of Andrew Lewis and was a great mother and grandmother. She
even raised seven of her grandchildren. She loved lilacs and had one
