SAMUEL J. GREEAR
Samuel Grear was in the 1870 Fannin County, Georgia census, age 12, with Elizabeth 28, Mary 9 and John 2.
Elizabeth is still in Fannin County in 1880, widowed, but Samuel is not with her. Elizabeth married a Stover and then in 1900 McDonald County Missouri a Berry Carter, buried in Oklahoma, so she and Samuelmight have come west together.
In 1890 the American Home Baptist Society reported on the converts by Samuel J. Greear in Yuma, Holyoke, and Rockland.
1890 "Rev S.J. Greear preached to the people of Yuma."
Samuel J. Greear cash-claimed a quarter in section 24, 5N 48W in 1891.
The 1893 Baptist Home Mission had a listing of S.J. Greear at Rocky Ford.
The tombstone in Rocky Ford says "Dr. Samuel J. D. Greear - first pastor First Baptist Church, Rocky Ford, Colo. Served June 1895 - June 1897. Greear - Dr. Samuel J.D. Died July 2, 1944 - Anna - Died November 18, 1949.
Possibly the same Dr. Greear who was in Loveland in 1900, born March 1859 in Georgia. He's married to Anna M. 38, and they have Sylvester E. 17, Mabel M. 14, Myrtle L. 10 , and Vallia W. 9
And he might be the S.J. Greear running for Congress on the Socialist ticket in 1900, getting about 2% of the votes.
May 3, 1900 Fort Collins "Dr. S.J. Greear has resigned the pastorate of the Baptist church. He expects to continue his residence in Loveland."
The 1900 Baptist Home Mission Monthly had a Rev S.J. Greear of Telluride, Norwood in 1900-1910, then in La Veta running a sanitarium for the treatment of alcohol and morphine addiction.
1903 Telluride Journal
The 1908 Telluride paper didn't like him - but misspelled the nam.
