Albert and Edna (Woodcock) Graham
Graham Brothers - Jesse, Albert, Riley, and Leander
The years of 1907 and 1908 were crucial in the migration of Albert Graham and his wife, Edna Woodcock Graham with their two little girls, Mary and Carmen, along with his in-laws the Woodcocks, his younger brother, Lee and childhood friend and neighbor, Charlie Blanchard, from their neighborhood near Wyeth, Andrew County, Missouri, for the free government land in Yuma County, Colorado.
In July 1912, Charlie and Mayme Blanchard sold their 160 acres to Lee Graham and moved back to Wyeth, Andrew County, Missouri and lived there for the rest of their life.
In January 1913, Lee Graham married his neighbor’s daughter, Gertrude M. Brelsford, who lived just two miles north, and sold his holdings to his neighbor Samuel Lett. Lee and Gertrude moved to Ogallala, Nebraska and later homesteading in Arthur County, Nebraska, living there for the rest of his life.
Albert and Edna stayed on the homestead in northern Yuma County, constructing a cement house, which was the talk of the country. They lived on the homestead until Edna’s death in 1921. Soon thereafter, Albert lost interest in the homestead and moved in with his daughter, Viola Clawson and later retiring to Yuma, living there for the remainder of his life.
In 1910, Albert and Edna B. Graham are living in Magee Precinct, Yuma County. Albert is 39, Edna 25. They have Mary (8). Carmen L. (6), and Viola N. (nine months).
In 1920, the precinct was Weld. Albert is 50, Edna 34. Mary is not with them, Carmen is 15, Viola M. is 9, and they have Clarence E. (8) and Shannon E. (9).
Edna died in 1921, and is buried in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery two miles west of their place.
That's about when Carmen married Leslie Monk (who was living with his brother Albert Monk a mile south).
In 1930, Albert Graham is living with daughter Viola and her husband Ben Clawson at Abarr - about ten miles south of Yuma. Clarence is 18, Eugene 14.
Clifford, Clarence's son, died February 2011 in Box Butte County, Nebraska.
