Yuma County Pioneer Photographs:

Candacy Ford, a daughter, a niece, and five sons all came to Yuma.  A brother also came for a short time.

Candasa Dunagan and Noble Ford married September 22, 1867 in Owen County, Indiana.

Noble and Candasa are in Independence County, Missouri in 1870, living with George Ford, 54.  They have Charles, 2, born in Indiana.

In 1880 Morgan County, Indiana Noble is 35, Candace 28.  They have Charley 11, Leona 9, Thomas 7, George 4, and Sylver P. 1

In 1885 Buffalo County, Nebraska Noble Ford, farmer, is 40.  Candacy is 39, Charles 16, Leona 14, Thomas 12, George 8, Leslie 6, Pearl (son) 4, and Albert is three months.

Noble, at least, is in Chase, Chase County, Nebraska 1890-1891 Gazetteer.  (and L.E. Marcelas is on the list of about fifty farmers) 

Wonder if he could be the laborer at Texas Lumber Company in 1890 Denver,  living at 3932 Franklin....

 

Noble Ford Birth : Nov 1844 Newborn, (probably Newbern) Indiana Death Sep 1911 RLDS Deceased Files/ Wray, Colorado, RLDS Branch Records Noble Ford was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 11 May 1911 at Wray, Yuma, Colorado, by E. D. Bullard. He was confirmed by A. E. Tabor and E. D. Bullard. He attended the Wray, Colorado Branch.

In 1850 Bartholomew County, Indiana - where Newbern is located - there's a George and Annenta Ford, with children Philetus M. 10  Chichester 7, Noble 5, Eliza Lane 3, and newborn Mary. E.

In 1860 Hendricks County - a hundred miles south - they've added Ellen A. 8, Saran Ann 5, and Rachel R. 1.

In 1870 George is living with Noble and Candacy, and Araminta 54 is living in Morgan County Indiana - just south of Hendricks.  Araminta has Chichester 27, Sarah 15, and Philetus 30 with her.  Willard, 5, is also in her household.

Araminta's Findagrave biography said George and Araminta divorced in 1871.

Arminta Ford married James B. Callahan Mary 19, 1879 in Morgan County.

Armenta Y. Callahan, 64, married to James Callahan, is in the 1880 Morgan County census.

It must not have lasted long, if she's the Arminta Ford, 72, divorced, living alone in 1885 Buffalo County, Nebraska.

A.Y. Ford, age 75, died December 9, 1894 in Marion County, Indiana.

It's probable Noble is the "Nobb/ Noble Ford" in 1910 Kay County Oklahoma, 67, born in Indiana,   He's a stepbrother to James Bunch, 46, born in Missouri.

Noble's father George Ford, after divorce from Arminta, married Emily Francis Cook BUNCH.  Her husband Elijah had died in 1875.

 

In 1900 Chase County, Nebraska Candacy J. Ford, born February 1851 in Indiana, said she's married, but no husband on the census.  She has Leslie, born January 1879 in Indiana, Albert February 1885 in Nebraska, Alva December 1887 in Nebraska, Fred March 1890 in Nebraska, and Dock October 1893 in Nebraska.

September 1910 :

Mrs. C.J. Ford and family met in Holyoke last Thursday, where they had a family photo taken, all being present but one boy.  Eight sons and one daughter and the mother were in the group.

Charles 1868, Leona 1871, Thomas 1874, Leslie 1877, George 1877, Sylver 1879, Albert 1885, Alva 1886, Fred 1890, and Dock 1892.

Candacy must be the center front - next to her on the right sure looks like Alva - the hair-part matches the photo in the Yuma directory.

In November 1910 "The many friends of Mr. Ford, sr. are glad his health was so improved that he was able to return to Colorado with Mrs. Ford."  Wonder if this is Noble.....

October 1911 "Mrs. E. A. Smith, of Lamar, Nebr., and Mrs. Freeman O'Neil, of south of Yuma, are visiting with their aunt, Mrs. C.J. Ford,. this week.

In 1912 Mrs. Joslin wrote " Mrs. Johnson died Thur. night and was to be buried Saturday.  My! I hope it was a nice day there, it rained and snowed & the wind blew a regular hurricane here.  Blew our big hay rack over the fence, tore the fence all down and smashed the rack.  It was setting right down on the ground, too.  And the side of the barn started in, but they got it braced up alright.  Mr. Fite has a good sized barn, the wind moved that about a foot on the foundation.  It let up a little while, long enough for Jim to get down.  He brought your letter.  He has relinquished his claim to a girl named "Alta Ferrel," he was over there last week.  He says they seem like awful nice people.  They live near "Venango," the first station over in Nebraska.  The girl is 21, her and a boy of 13 are all the children there are in the family.  Her father paid $700 for J's claim, for her.  I shouldn't be surprised if she is going to be married, for it don't seem like she would come clear down here and live alone."

Ford, Albert, Farmer, PO Holyoke, 1912, Born Nebraska 1886, married Alta Ferrell.  Alta was in Chase County, Nebraska (where Venango is) in 1900 and 1910 - with parents Charles L. and Cynthia A. Ferrel, and brother Grover A. Ferrel.

In 1930 Alta's mother Cynthia, 68, is living with Albert and Alta in Yuma County.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 1980, at the First Christian Church in Holyoke for Alta Ford, 89, who passed away Friday, May 2, at Melissa Memorial Hospital.

Officiating at the services were James Mort, Stanley Smith, Dale Machart and Loren Draper. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Alta Ford, daughter of Charles LeRoy and Cynthia Ann Ferrel was born December 4, 1890 at New London, Iowa. Two years later, in 1892, her family (father, mother and two sisters) came in a covered wagon from Iowa to Amherst, Colorado.

Alta was united in marriage to Albert Ford, Venango, Nebraska, in 1912. Their first home was a farm southwest of Holyoke in the Wages community. They later lived in Bailey and Loveland, Colorado. At the time of the death of her husband May 15, 1966, they were living in Denver.


(Albert was buried in Holyoke, # 38635381.) Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Elfie Jeffs and Della Green.

She is survived by one brother, Grover A. Ferrel of Lamar, Nebraska, two nephews, Lowell Ferrel of Imperial, Nebraska and Lee Summers of Long Beach, California, one niece, Margie Machart of Denver, other relatives and many friends.

She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Imperial, Nebraska Branch. She also attended the Wages Church and the First Christian Church at Holyoke.

"This community was saddened Saturday by the death of Grandma Ford. She passed away very peacefully in her sleep in the afternoon. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She always had a cheerful word for everyone and a bit of scripture. To know her was to love her. We extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family."



In 1920 "Alla" and Grover are in Yuma County. Alla is 22, born in Nebraska.  Grover and "Alto" F. Hall married December 4,  1918

In 1930, still in Yuma, they have Lowell O., 9, and Margie D. 6.

All four are still there in 1940.
 

Lowell Ferrel
Lowell Orlan Ferrel was born in Phillips County, Colo. on April 28, 1920, to Grover Anderson Ferrel and Alta Fern (Hall) Ferrel. He passed away Nov. 27, 2005. He was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Lowell attended Cement School in Yuma County and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1939. Lowell and Donnabeth Ferebee were united in marriage Jan. 1, 1942, at Lamar, Neb., by Rev. Ivan Kilpatrick at the United Brethren parsonage. To this union three children were born: Vicky Lynn, Lowell Ora and Jay Dee. In July 1942, Lowell entered the United States Army and served in Europe during World War II. His company was one of the first to land on the Beach of Normandy. Lowell was honorably discharged on Nov. 26, 1945. After he returned from the service, Lowell and Donnabeth spent the next 14 years living south of Lamar, where he started training horses. In 1960, they bought the acreage where they lived for the next 45 years and where he was very successful with his training stables. He trained and showed many horses at one time, often riding as many as 52 horses a day. One novel experience was training a zebra to ride and drive. Lowell was an official judge for the American Quarter Horse Association, The Appaloosa Horse Club and the American Paint Horse Association. He judged shows in every state in the continental United States and in four Provinces of Canada. He had been asked to judge in Australia, but had declined. Lowell received the "Boss Award" at Nebraskaland Days in North Platte for his outstanding contributions to the sport of rodeo; an Honorary Service Certificate from the American Quarter Horse Association for 17 years of service as a judge; a Certificate of Appreciation for his dedication to the American Quarter Horse Association; and Lifetime memberships to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Nebraska Quarter Horse Association. Rotary was very important in Lowell's life. He served as the local president, attended five international conventions (Orlando, Fla., Portland, Ore., Mexico City, Mexico, Melbourne, Australia, Seoul, Korea) and received the Paul Harris Award. Music has always been a big part of Lowell's life. He played the tenor saxophone in high school, the bugle in the army, and later played many instruments including soprano sax and violin. He played with Wayne Lee's orchestra for many years and in later years enjoyed playing with groups at the Senior Center. He was preceded in death by son Jay Dee and his parents, Grover and Alta Ferrel. Lowell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donnabeth; daughter Vicky and husband Jim Brown; son, Lowell Ora and wife Jennalea; three grandsons, Troy Brown, Toby Brown and Thomas Ferrel; four great grandchildren, Audrey Lynn Burbach, Connor Brown, Gillian Ferrel and Sean Ferrel; sister Margie and husband Dale Machart and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Imperial, Neb. with Pastor Kay Alnor and Jim Smith officiating. Pianist was Mrs. Marcia Bauerle and soloist was Mrs. Jill Bauerle. Military rites were by the V.F.W. Post #4688, Imperial. Casketbearers were Dick Potter, Bob Kluender, Charlie Lee, Gary Greeley, Pete Dillan and Lloyd Hazard. Honorary casketbearers were Bill Silvester, Don Newman and Tom Kiplinger. Interment was at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial. Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

In November 1916 "Yesterday Lucy and I went over to Mr. Fords to the "Aid," had a good time.  It was a nice day so the preacher and his wife came down.  They seemed to enjoy it as much as any of us.  After dinner, the preacher washed the dishes and Mr. Ford wiped them so that we women could work."

In December 1916 Mrs. Joslin - a neighbor living a couple miles east of Wages, wrote about her Christmas dinner  "Mrs. Ford's folks came up there so they couldn't come here.  His folks were there too so she had a few more than I did for dinner."

Sylvester S. Dunagan

The Post recently received a letter from a girl who was once well known in Benkelman and in the Pleasant Valley district telling of the death of her father, S. S. Dunagan at Lamar, Nebraska, on July 16th. The girl in question was known to her friends here as Miss Sylvia Dunagan and later married a man by the name of Harris  (maybe Ira Jackson Harris, married to Sylvia in  1937 El Centro and 1940 Imperial County, California - Ira was divorced in 1930, and married to Lulu in 1920) and more recently was married to S. C. McGonagle, likewise an early Dundy county resident. (Probably the Clark S. McGonagle in the 1900 Dundy County census.  He was 17, born in Illinois, and had a brother Charles F. 26.   In 1906 Clark McGonagle had letters uncalled-for at the McCook post office. Sam Clark McGonagle registered for WWI in south Washington County, Colorado, saying he was born March 24, 1883. In 1920 "Clark McGonough" is back in Dundy County, living with his mother Susan and brother Charles W. probably the Dundy County sheriff in 1912   In 1930 he's running a cream station in Akron, living alone.  In 1940 Akron he's running an ice house, age 57, married to Fern, 26.  They married in  Englewood, Colorado January 21, 1936 - the census said they were living in the same house in 1935.  Fern enlisted in the Army in 1943)

She (Sylvia) operates the Persian Date Garden at El Centro, Calif., specializing in the growing of dates with some ranch activities added as a side issue, and under the new order of things Mr. McGonagle is now assisting in these operations and only recently his brother, C. F. McGonagle, returned from El Centro and other California points where he had visited with his relatives.   (Sylvia M. McGonagle is in the California index, born July 1, 1886 in Nebraska, dying August 16, 1973 in Imperial County  She and Samuel Clark McGonagle March 14, 1883  May 14, 1966 are in Evergreen Cemetery there.)

Sylvester S. Dunagan was born in Morgan county, Indiana, June 17, 1861, and was married to Mrs. Ellen Bourne on February 18, 1885. (Buffalo County, Nebraska - also listed were Thomas Dunagan and Eliza Applegate - George Ford and Armenia Brimhall - maybe Noble's parents..  In 1920 Sylvester S. Dunagan of Venango, Nebraska was listed as a Resident Minister of the Society of Friends.  A Samuel Bourn - 1847 - May 4, 1876 - is buried in Stierwalt Cemetery, Morgan County, Indiana)  Mrs. Bourne had three children at the time of their marriage, (The 1870 census of Ashland has Jefferson BOWEN, 22, Ellen 18, and Viola 1. the 1880 census of Ashland, Morgan County Indiana has 28-year-old Ellen Bourn, widowed, with Rosy R. 11, Lillian M. 9, and Osker P. 6.) two of whom survive him, they being Oscar Dunagan of Elm Creek, Nebraska (Oscar BOWEN is married in the 1910 census to Estella, and they have four kids and mother-in--law Belle Carter, 62 ), and Lillian Smith of Lamar, Nebraska, at whose home Mr. Dunagan lived several years previous to his death and he was making his home with her when he died. The other son died in infancy. (the 1885 census of Buffalo County has Sylvester, 23, Ellen 32, and stepchilden Rosie BOWEN, 16, Lily 14, and Oscar 11.  On the same page is John -42- and Lucy 38 Dunagan, with seven kids ages 1 to 19.) Mrs. Dunagan died at San Bernardino, Calif., July 15, 1893, and in 1897 Mr. Dunagan was married to Annie Watkins at Grant, Nebraska.  (the 1880 census of Will County, Illinois has an Annie Watkins, 17, daughter of Richard and Catherine Watkins)

Mr. Dunagan homesteaded in Perkins county in 1886 and it was there where Mrs. McGonagle and her sister Elva, (now Mrs. Freeman O'Neall) and one son Frank, who died at the age of four months, were born, while Roy W. and Verl Dunagan were born in Dundy county. One other son, Ivan, died in infancy.

The Dunagan family moved to Perkins county in 1886 and then moved from there to Dundy county in 1889 where he engaged in farming in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood for many years. Mr. Dunagan was a very religious man and was early . ordained as a minister in the Friends church where he not alone served as a pastor but as an officer in the Friend's yearly meeting. At one time he was likewise a trustee of the Friend's College at Central City, Nebraska. He held pastorates in the Pleasant Valley church at different times and served two years in the same position at Grant and later continued in charge of churches in eastern Nebraska and in Indiana for several years.  (In 1920 the Nebraska Society of Friends Missionary Committee had an Anna Dunagan at Peters, Nebraska. "Through the splendid efforts of Everett E. Scotten and S.S. Dunagan, together with other members in their meetings, commodious parsonages have been built at Harmony and New Hope")

To his first marriage two children survive, they being Mrs. McGonagle of El Centro, Calif., and Mrs. Elva B. O'Neall of Loveland, Colo., and of his second marriage, surviving are Roy V. Dunagan, pastor of the Friends church at Cherokee, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Verl Broyles of El Centro, Calif., along with 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and the two step-children, Oscar Bourne and Lillian Smith of Lamar, Nebr.

Funeral services were held at Venango, Nebraska, in the church in which the deceased had preached years ago and interment was in the Venango cemetery.

So Noble's sister Ellen- widowed - married Candacy's brother Sylvester.


June 22, 1933 "Grandma Ford and son Dock spent the weekend with the former's brother, Sid Dunagan, at Lamar, Nebraska.
Mr. and Mrs. Alva Ford and Floyd and Fred Ford and children motored to Lamar, Nebraska, Saturday to help Alva's and Fred's uncle, Sid Dunagan, celebrate his 75th birthday.

September 1935 - Pleasant Valley items "Sid Dunagan was visiting last week with his sister, Grandma Ford."

In 1940 Selvaster Dunagen, 78, was living with nephew Delbert R. Ford, 47, in Magee, Yuma County. (this might be Dock R....)

Samuel Freeman O'Neall born 1887, died 1970 - buried Fort Collins.  He married Elva Ellen Dunagan, born March 6, 1890 in Nebraska, and died September 4, 1970.  He registered for WWI in Yuma County, said he was born January 23, 1887 in Benkelman, Nebraska. In 1920 they were living in Hyde, with daughters Arlene E. and Ina E.

In 1930 they're still in Hyde, with Ardalene E.19, Ina E. 15, Wayne B. 8, and Daniel F. 6.

In 1940 they're still in Washington County, with Wayne and Daniel.

 
Samuel Freeman O'Neall was born on 23 January 1887 at Dundy County, Nebraska. He was the son of John Belton O'Neall and Elizabeth Danella Miller. Samuel Freeman O'Neall married Elva Dunagan on 3 June 1910 at Benkelman, Nebraska.  Samuel Freeman O'Neall died on 4 September 1976 at Loveland, Colorado, at age 89 in a pedestrian-and-automobile accident. Elva Dunagan died on 4 September 1970 at age 80.

Ina Elizabeth O'Neal LEFEVRE- mother's maiden name Dunagan , born May 28, 1914 in Nebraska, died February 28, 1991 in Imperial County, California.   She might be the Ina Swinney in 1940 El Centro - operating a beauty shop,  She's 25, born in Colorado, with a question  mark by the "Married", and has Barbara, 5.   (Barbara Joan Swinney's birth record of September 9, 1936 has her mother's maiden name of Oneall.) The 1937 city directory has Wm. A. Swinney (Ina) clerk at the Imperial Irrigation District.
 In 1952 El Centro she was operating Rose Marie's Beauty Shop, living at 664 Main.  Robert H. is also at that address.
In the 1950's they're registered to vote in El Centro - Ina a beauty operator, R.H. a rancher.  Sure looks like they were cousins.
In 1968 Robt. (Ina) is a crusher foreman at Valley Transit Cement in El Centro, and Wm. S. (Jeannette) is a foreman for Producers Cooling, both El Centro.

Annie Dunagan of Benkelman, Nebraska was on the Friends Mission Board, term to expire in 1911.

And a Chas. Watkins of Venango, Nebraska was on the Committee on Peace.

THOMAS

Thomas Ford is on the same 1900 census page, saying he was born December 1874 in Indiana.  He's married to Edna, born March 1878 in Colorado, and they have Eva, born May 1899 in Colorado.  They're in Pocatello, Idaho in 1910, with a baby girl, and in 1920 with Eva 19 and Goldie 11.  Eva is a "ticket seller at picture show."


But in 1919 "Thomas Ford, who had been visiting with his mother, Mrs. C.J. Ford, daughter and brothers for a few days, left for Kemmerer, Wyoming on the afternoon train last Friday.

July 1926 "Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ford and son, who had been visiting with the gentleman's mother and brothers northeast of Yuma for a couple of weeks. left on No. 9 Monday, bound for their home at Kemmerer, Wyoming."
In 1940 Lincoln County, Wyoming, Thomas is 59, Emily 39, with Thomas Jr. 16 and Norma Jean 13.
August 14, 1961 Salt Lake City "Thomas Ford, 531 E. 7th N., died Monday night at his residence of natural causes. He was born Dec. 19, 1873, in Muncie, Ind the son of Noble and Jane Dunnagan Ford. He married Emily Thompson on April 17, 1922, in Green River, Wyo. He received his early education in Colorado and during his youth was an Ardent baseball player. In later years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had been employed for many years as a railroad engineer by the Union Pacific Railroad. He had made his home in Kemmerer, Wyo. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Engineers, a member of the U. P. Oldtimers Club and for many years a member of the Rock Springs Elks Club. Surviving are his wife of Provo and a daughter, Mrs. L. Paul (Norma Jean) Jones, Provo; four grandchildren; three brothers, Albert Ford, Englewood, Colorado.; D. R. Ford and Alva Ford, both of Loveland, Colo. Private funeral services for the family will be held Friday at 11 a.m at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel with Bishop O. Earl Hawkins of Provo Ninth Ward officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery."
Emily (Thompson) Ford 1903-1988 is also buried there.

Daughter Norma Jean Beale 1926-1995 is buried in Cedar City, Utah # 17625536.

George Ford is also on that 1900 page, born June 1876 in Indiana.  He lives alone.

Also on the page is Rilla M. Peterson, born February 1888 in Nebraska, with parents Able P and Emma A. She has four sisters, Hazel M., Elsie, Edith T, and Vera B.

Candacy J. Ford was the first postmaster of Ford, established June 4, 1909 in township 5N 47W,

In 1910 Magee Precinct, Yuma County, Candasy is 56.  Leslie 30, Fred 20, Dock 18, and a "Visitor" Nina Boyd, 22.

The 1911 Gazetteer says:

Ford New postoffice in Yuma county Farming the principal industry. Population 25.

Leslie proved up a claim in section 20,5N 46W - just a few miles north of the Pleasant Valley Church. 

Near Wages Charley E.  claimed some land in 1921, and some more in 1926.

Alta Ferrel claimed land near Wages in 1917 - about the time she married Albert Ford.  Albert had claimed land in northeast Phillips County - right on the Nebraska border -in 1912.

Alva homesteaded in section 6, 4N 46W, proving up in 1914.  His witnesses were Albert Monk - a mile east, Laymon R. Marshall, L. Gradiner Lett, and Michael L. Weekley.

This photo  in the Action On The Plains just says "Ford Place northeast of Yuma"

ALBERT

Albert Ford married Alta Ferrel in 1912 in Yuma, and registered in Yuma County, saying his address was Holyoke, Phillips County, was farming, and married.


March 1927 "Alva Ford received word from Denver that his brother Abb, of Wages, had met with an auto accident, getting his arm broken. Mr. Ford wnet to Denver to take medical treatment.

He and Alta are in 1930 Yuma County, and in 1930 Cynthia Ferrel 68 is living with them,.


Albert was in Loveland in 1939, when they came to help care for Candacy.

All three are in Loveland in 1940, saying they were in Adams County in 1935.  They're running a rooming house.

Albert Ford, February 17, 1886  May 1966 is in SSDI, with an address of Englewood.

LESLIE

Leslie E. Ford also registered in Yuma, born January 15, 1878, and was married.  One tree said Leslie married Nina Constance Boyd August 24, 1910 in Palisade, Nebraska.

In June 1910 the Pioneer reported "Lee Boyd and Leslie Ford have gone to Lamar to build a large barn (probably Lamar Nebraska) and there are some lonely people near Ford at present."

September 29, 1911 "On Tuesday a little girl arrived to brighten the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Ford, at Ford..."

In 1920 Weld City Precinct, Leslie is farming, married to Nina C., 32, born in Nebraska.  They have Elva, 8, Robert B. 5, and Don G. 3., all born in Colorado.  Nina almost has to be the "visitor" in 1910.  In 1900 there's a Nina Boyd in Palisade, Hitchcock County, Nebraska, daughter of John and "Racher A." Boyd.

Elva married Claude O. Graham August 10, 1928 in Colorado.  In 1930 Sherman County, Kansas there's an Elva O. Graham, 18, married to Claude Graham.  Robert, Don, and Beatrice (8) Ford are with them. 

In 1940 Denver Claude and Elva are in Denver, with Richard L. 6.  Robert Ford, 24 is living with them.


Leslie is buried in Yuma # 49689735.

Don D. Ford 1916-1942 is buried in Fremont County # 35572120.
The tombstone in Fremont County Colorado has "Elva Oleta Graham, Sept 26, 1911 - Mar 22, 1992"

The same cemetery has Nina C. Ford - "Mother" Dec 21, 1888 - Aug 16, 1956 - # 35572121.

Candacy and Dock are living together in 1920 Magee, and in 1930 Charley is back with them.  Charlie is also listed with Alva and Rilla, and 13-year-old Floyd, in 1930 Magee. 

Lola Marie Eyestone, daughter of Robert and Eva, graduated from Waverly School in 1933.



GEORGE


The SouthWest Nebraska history site has George marrying Della M. Hall September 21, 1906, and had an infant dughter dying in 1913, buried in Lamar. September 26, 1935 "Mr. and Mrs. Alva Ford, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ford and Harold and Mr. and Mrs. George Ford sepnt Sunday with Grandma Ford."
Mary 21, 1935 "Mr. and Mrs. George Ford of Imperial, Nebraska, and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ford and children of Yuma spent Sunday at the Grandma Ford home. February 20, 1958
George 1877-1958 # 141738395 and Della M. (Hall) Ford 1885-1960 are buried in Lamar, Nebraska. The Chase County genealogy site has Della M. Klein Ford.


ALVA


The SouthWest Nebraska site has Alma marrying Rilla Peterson April 19, 1911 at Imperia. She was the daughter o Abel Perry Peterson and Emma Adeline Arthur.

August 1942 "Mr. and Mrs. Alva Ford both have employment. Alva makes crates for engines and Mrs. Ford works in the diet kitchen of Denver General Hospital."
March 1943 "Mr. and Mrs. George Barker and children were overnight guests at the Will Murrain home Monday. They are moving on the Alva Ford place which they bought recently."
In January 1945 "Mr. and Mrs. Alva Ford of Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ford and little daughter of Holyoke were guests at the Marion Rogers home.
In 1947 Alva Ford, of Fraser, Colorado, offered for sale one share in the Farmers M & M elevator.
They were operating a hotel in Sept 1947, and living there in 1949.
In 1960 they were living in Loveland, Colorado.

In July 1953 the Kiowa County Press said "Floyd Ford has been ill the past week and unable to be at work at his Body Shop in Eads."  Also in 1953 "Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ford and daughter, Sharon, were in Yuma last week end visiting Mrs. Ford's parents and other relatives."

October 1953 " Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ford and daughter, Sharon, were in Yuma last Sunday to visit Mrs. Ford's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eyestone, and to attend a family gathering."

One Ancestry tree says Floyd Milton Ford born May 16, 1915, died January 16, 1984 in Denver., and Lola Marie born July 14, 1916, died June 2005 in Denver. Another tree says Lola died August 14, 2004 in Broomfield.

CHARLES

Leona Marcellus is widowed in 1940 Hudson, with brother Charles 72 living with her.  Charles said he was living in Yuma in 1935.

LEONA

Leona married Lewis Marcellus - they're in Hudson, Colorado in 1900, with Roy 10, Esther 7, Leo 5, and Edward 5.

In 1910 they're in Yuma County, near Wages.  "Louis" is 44, born in Illinois, "Lona" 39, Missouri.  Roy, Leo, and Edward are farm laborers.  They've added George 9, and Leslie 7, Florence 2, and ten-month-old  son Fern.  The four youngest were born in Colorado, the older ones Nebraska.

In 1920 they're back in Hudson, with  Edward L. 22, George L. 19, Lester A. 17, Florence E. 12, and Fern A. 10.

Florence Marcellus married Arnold Sams November 12, 1924 in Colorado.

F. Arthur Marcellus, age 19,  married Mary Waltz November 11, 1928 in Denver.

In 1930 Lewis and Leona are in Denver.  Lewis is a night watchman at a factory at 65.  Lester. 27, is a garage mechanic.  George 29, a commercial traveler is married to Arvilla 21 a saleslady at a furniture store, and they have Arletta, 5.

George Marcellus married Arvilla Wright January 5, 1924 in Colorado.  He filed for divorce in Denver in 1932.

Lewis Edward Marcellus tombstone in the Hudson cemetery has a death date of September 9, 1939.

Leona is widowed in 1940 Hudson, with brother Charles 72 living with her.  Charles said he was living in Yuma in 1935.

California records have Leona Eliza Marcellus born October 21, 1868 in Missouri, dying February 24 1947 in Los Angeles

There's also an Arthur Fern Marcellus, born May 29, 1909, dying July 1, 1942 in San Bernadino.

Lester A. Marcellus, born June 22, 1902, died February 3, 1965 in Los Angeles.

"Charles Leo Marcellus" has  a tombstone in the Holyoke cemetery, -June 9, 1894 - July 30, 1935 - husband of Anna Johnson.

Colorado records show Leo Marcellus, 26,  marrying Anna Johnson, age 22,  December 8, 1920 in Holyoke.

LEO MARCELLUS DIES IN DENVER
World War Veteran Had Been Patient At Denver Hospital For Past Month

Leo Marcellus, 41, veteran of the World War, died Tuesday at the Colorado General Hospital in Denver, where he had been a patient for the past month.

Funeral services will be held at Hudson Friday afternoon and burial will be made at Hudson*, according to information received in Holyoke this morning.

Mr. Marcellus had been a resident of Holyoke for more than 20 years and was born at Moorefield, Nebraska, June 9, 1894.

He became seriously ill about two months ago, although he had been in poor health for several years, and last month went to Denver, where he entered the hospital.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna Marcellus, his mother, Mrs. Leona Marcellus of Hudson, Colorado, two sisters, Mrs. Esta Croy of Omaha and Mrs. Florence Sams of Hudson, Colorado and five brothers, Edward of San Diego, California, George of Los Angeles, California, Fern of Denver, and Lester and Roy of Hudson.

 

FRED

Fred's WWI registration said he was born at Lamar, Nebraska March 3, 1891, and was single, farming.

In Akron  June 19, 1918 he married Henrietta "Etta" H Ruger.

They are in Yuma County in 1920, with Lloyd, nine months old.. "Herietta" said she was 23, born in Colorado - father German. mother Irish.

The 1922 directory said Fred came to Yuma County in 1909, and married Etta Ruger


January 10, 1929 - Prairie View items (One Prairie View school was essentially 4N 48W )"Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ruger, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Ford and son Floyd and Ruth Ewing were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ford."

They're still in Yuma County in 1930, and have added Evelyn M. 9, Dorothy L. 8, and Harold L. 5, all born in Colorado.  The other names on the page indicate an area around Waverly.


January 1, 1931 "The Pat Ford family visited Christmas Day with Mrs. Ford's parents, the Rogers in Yuma.

November 23, 1939 "Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Walthers, of Denver, came to Yuma Saturday and visited until the next night with the lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ford, and with other relatives."

In 1940 Yuma (Hoag Avenue) Etta said she's married, but it's crossed out.  With her are Lloyd 21, Dorothy 18, and Harold 15.  Lloyd works at a grain mill.

Fred is living alone in 1940, with a question mark above the "Married" .  The other people on the census page are from the Clarkville area.

Henrietta married Arthur Ashford in 1943.  Arthur died September 1954. Henrietta L. Ruger-Ashford was buried 1990 in the Yuma cemetery.



The Yuma Cemetery has a Fred Ford - buried 1950 - with a note "Lloyd Russell", so that's likely our Fred. The # 49689733 tombstone says "Pat Ford 1890-1950."

Lloyd W. Ford was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Field Artillery - address 620 Mathews St., Fort Collins.  Lloyd was in a fraternity listing for 1940 at Colorado A & M, and was majoring in entomology.

Harold L. Ford is buried in Fort Logan - Findagrave has him married to Jewell Eloise Siel of Otis.  They had a daughter Peggy Leigh Ford -Yuma Cemetery April 16, 1955 -- April 1, 1999.

   Roy V. Dunagan, 89, of Nampa, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 1994 at his home.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 1994, at the Nampa Friends Church, 723 13th Ave. S.  Pastor Clynton Crisman of the Hayden Lake, Idaho Friends Church will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Greenleaf Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
  Roy V. Dunagan was born on May 26, 1904, at Dundy Co., Nebraska.  He was reared and educated in Nebraska.  He married Josephine Elwood on Jan. 11, 1923, in Sutton, NE.  Roy attended Union Seminary in Westfield, Indiana.  In 1926 he and his wife began pastoring for the Friends Church in Alexandria, Indiana.  In 1936 they moved to northern Idaho and in 1940 to the Riverside Community near Nampa where they continued pastoring.  In 1953 they moved to Fairfield, Idaho.  In 1980 they returned to Nampa, moving to Pine Grove, CA, in 1985.  Mrs. Dunagan preceded him in death on July 16, 1985.  Following the death of his wife he returned to Nampa, making his home at the Sunnyridge Manor.  Roy was a member of the Nampa Friends Church.
  Roy is survived by 4 sons, Gerald Dunagan, Crooked River Ranch, OR, Waldo and his wife, Joan Dunagan, Wenatchee, WA, Arnold Dunagan, Crooked River Ranch, OR, and Ronald and his wife, Rose Dunagan, Boise;  a sister, Verl Broyles, Newberg, OR;  12 grandchildren;  and 16 great grandchildren.
  Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Fields in 1991, and an infant son.
  The family suggests memorials to the Greenleaf Friends Academy, 20535 N. Academy Road, Greenleaf, ID 83626.
  Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Verl Dunagan, 32, is a maid for a family in 1940 Los Angeles.  She said she was in Nebraska in 1935.

NEWBERG Oregon - Lelah Verl Broyles, 92, died Monday, April 10, 2000

She was born in Benkelman, Neb. October 23, 1907, and lived in California before moving to Salem in 1978, and later to Newberg in 1987. She was a homemaker and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She enjoyed sewing and activities in her church. Her husband, Elmer James Broyles, whom she married in 1940, died in 1994.

Survivors include her son, John, of San Jose, Calif.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Newberg Friends Church, which she attended. Private interment will be at Belle Passi Cemetery in Woodburn. Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn. Contributions: Friendsview Manor.

Betty Stanley, 81, formerly of El Centro died in her home at Grants Pass, Oregon on March 18, 2009.
She was born to Bill and Jeanette Le Fevre of El Centro, CA on November 13, 1927. She graduated from Central Union High in 1945. She married Norman Stanley in 1946, they resided in El Centro until the 1970's when they moved to Grants Pass, OR.
She is survived by her son, Larry Stanley; her grandchildren, Andrew and Julie Stanley of Hood River Oregon; daughter, Janice Turner and granddaughter, Kristin of Grants Pass, OR; she is also survived by her sister, Wanda Bailey of Peoria, Arizona; and nephew, Jim Bailey of Goodyear, Arizona.
Her grandfather Earl Le Fevre came to the Imperial Valley in 1904. He mined salt from the Salton Sink with his twenty mule team for the White Star Salt Co. Later after the flood of the Salton Sea he used the same team of mules to help build the irrigation ditches for the valley. Her grandmother, Sylvia (Le Fevre) Harris owned and operated the Persian Date Gardens on Dogwood and Aten Roads in El Centro, for 35 years. Her father Bill Le Fevre owned West Main Pump and Sales until 1968.
There will be no services held. Betty's ashes will be placed with her husband's, Norman Stanley, in Waitsburg, Washington.

William V. Lefevre, 31, and Sylvia I. M. Lefevre, 23, are in Dundy County in 1910.  They have William S. 5 and Robert H. 4.

In 1920 they're all in Riverside County, California.

William is divorced in 1940 Kern County.
