George W. and Myrtle Gardner, Cope



In 1920 Cope precinct, Washington County, Colorado, George W. Gardner is farming, 45, Myrtle Gardner 33 Wife, and Ione Gardner 13 Daughter born in Missouri.

In 1930 Cope, George Gardner is running a filling stations, 53, Myrtle Gardner 42 Wife, and Fred Craig 32, born in Kansas, a laborer at the filling station.

The History of Cope says that a service station was on the east side of the highway to the north of the theater was a .
"Some of the men who owned or leased the station were: Nick Gardner, Kennie Jacobs, Scottie Donald (Herbert), Lyle Miller..."

May 1931 "Mrs. Myrtle Gardner, of Cope, Colorado, is spending several days at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Craig and family."

June 1931 "Mrs. Frona Craig is visiting at the home of her son, Harold Craig and family."

December 1932 "Mrs. Gardner, of Idaho Springs, is spending a few days this week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Craig."

"For several years the Frank Laybourn's held a house dance at their home west of Cope. Ione Gardner, Baldy Clark, and Kenneth Jacobs furnished the music."

Ione was the favorite teacher of the Nels Oman grand-daughters at their school northwest of Cope in 1927.

Harold V. Craig and Ione V. Gardner married in Denver on July 7, 1928.

In 1930 Louviers, Douglas County, Colorado, Harold V. is 32, a laborer for the DuPont powder plant, Ione V. 23, and Jerry J. newborn.

August 1967 "We feel the enclosed information will be of interest to our many friends in Louviers and Douglas County, as we lived in Louviers 26 years and I taught in Douglas County 6 years as well as our children, Jerry, Joan and John attended the schools there.
Paul Gardner Craig, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Craig, born on August 9, 1967 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver, was baptised at Our Lady of Loudres Church, Denver, on Sunday P.M. August 20.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Simon (Joan Craig, John's sister) of Lakewood were godparents by proxy for Mr. John McCann of London, England and Miss Monica McCann of Dublin, Ireland, brother and sister of Mrs. John Craig, a native of Dublin, Ireland, where they were married July 30, 1966. Father Leo Smith of Fairplay, Colorado, long-time friend of the family, performed the ceremony, John and Bridget entertained those present at their apartment at 2385 South Race Street, Denver, afterward.
Guests included Mrs. Madeleine E. McCann of Dublin, maternal grandmother, who came to the United States in June to await the baby's arrival, and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold V. Craig. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. John G. (Jerry) Simon and their 5 children,' Tim, Theresa, Kimberly Anne, Kevin and Briged, Father Leo Smith and his mother, Mrs. M. Smith of Fairplay, and other friends of the family. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Craig entertained at a family dinner the evening before at their home in Littleton --(little Paul Gardner's first trip from home). John and Bridget spent last year in Boston and came to Denver in June where he is now employed. Thank you, Sincerely, Mrs. Harold (lone) Craig 5500 South Curtice Streel Littleton. Colorado 8012 P. S. Paul Gardner Craig was named for Bridget Craig s oldest sister, a nun in the Irish Order of the Sisters of Charity. Sister Paul Mary who will visit them in Denver in September enroute from Dublin to Los Angeles where she will teach theology. Gardner is his maternal grandmother's maiden name - (lone Gardner Craig).

September 1959 Greeley, Colorado " Miss Ardis Hinze, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred F. Hinze of East 18th St., became the bride of Jerry J. Craig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold V. Craig of Littleton, Sunday afternoon at o'clock at the Church of St. Mary at Littleton. Rev. F. D. McCallin performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of 200 guests. Mrs. Marie Hrdticka was wedding organist..
Mrs. Simon carried a gold fan, with cluster of bronze mums. The bridesmaids, Miss Carol Klug of La Salle and Miss Mary Lea Hinze, sister of the bride, were attired like the matron of honor only in antique gold taffeta. Theresa and Timothy Simon, niece and nephew of the groom, acted as flower girl and ring bearer. The best man was Joseph Yele- iek of Denver. Howard L. Reynolds of Denver, formerly of Greeley, and John Craig, brother of the groom, ushered. The reception was held at Wolmrst Country club, 150 guests.
The Craigs are. spending their honeymoon in the mountains. Upon return, they will reside at 3200 South Valley Rd., Englewood. The bride is a graduate of Greeley high and altended Colorado State College, where she majored in fine arts. She was a member of the Madrigal Singers, choral group. The groom was graduated from Regis high and altended Regis College. He received his degree from CSC in J957. He is a member of Delta PsI fraternity. .
