William A. and Mattie B. (Depperman) Turner
William proved-up a quarter in 1894, meaning he arrived around 1889. The quarter to the west was homesteaded in 1895 by John Henry Depperman. (maybe he's the one in San Jose, California in 1896)
In 1900 Yuma County William November 1862 in England, married fifteen years to Mattie B. Nov 1866 Iowa. She s had seven children six living : George H. Apr 1866 Iowa, Fred E. May 1887 Iowa, Edward R. Dec 1890 Colorado , John W. Oct 1892 Colorado, Rosa M. Sep 1894 Colorado, and William W. July 1896 Colorado.
In 1908 William was a witness for Orvin E. Basford - for a quarter in section 9, 5N 48W
Phyllis Helgoth advised that Alva Agnes Turner and Elvera B. Turner are buried at the Rockland - about 14 miles south o f Haxtun.
1908 "Mrs. Stevens of Durango arrived Wednesday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. W.A. Turner, at Bryant."
In 1910 William and Mattie are still in north Yuma County, with Edward, John, Nellie, Albert, Mary, and Martha.
July 1910 
In 1920 Berthoud, Colorado William and "Mary" have Mary E. 16 and Martha A. 14. Living with them is widowed mother-in-law Mary Depperman, born about 1876 in Iowa.
In 1930 Berthoud William at 68 is a truck farmer, and he and Mattie are alone, and they're still there in 1940
One tree said "owned land and apple orchard across the road from Campion Academy near Loveland."

George H . Turner homesteaded two quarters in 5N 48W in 1915 - and William A Turner in 1894 - that's about five miles from the Rigby place.
1909 Ethel Rigby and George Turner were among the dozen "writing the teachers' examination being held in the school building by County Superintendent Weekly"
1909 "Miss Edith Rigby will teach at home in Bryant, Colo., this winter."
Edith Rigby married George H. Turner December 25, 1911. The Educational Messenger of January 1912 "Miss Edith Rigby, B.S. '08 and Mr. George Turner, '06 -'09, were married, at her home in Bryant, Colo., on Christmis day"
In 1910, on the same page as his parents, George is living alone.
January 10, 1913 "Dr. Crawford reports the arrival of a fine baby boy at the home of Geo. H. turner, near Bryant, Saturday last."
In 1920 Los Angeles George H. 33 and Edith A. 32, have Glen 7 and Ruby 4.
George born April 28,1886 in Burlington Iowa, dying July 19, 1967 in Los Angeles County, and Edith Adelle Turner born June 15, 1887 in Sac County, Iowa, dying September 7, 1978 in Ventura Count, are buried in Grand View Memorial Park, Glendale, California.
Union Reaper "George Henry Turner was born April 28, 1886 in Des Moines, Iowa; and died in Inglewood Calif July 19, 1967. He was a member of the San Bernardino Church. Survivors: wife, Edity Rigby Turner, 2 sons, Glen and Earl, 2 daughters, Mrs. Ruby Fewell and Mrs. Veradell Cornelius; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Elde John W., Albert, and Ed; and 2 sisters, Martha Lovell and Nellie Bowen."
Glen Fred Turner, born January 4, 1913 in Yuma County, died September 25, 2012 in Riverside County, California.
Carl Otho "Earl" Turner born September 28, 1921 in Boulder, Colorado, died August 17, 2001 in Los Angeles County, buried Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
In 1940 Ruby A. Fewell is 24, born in Colorado, married to Russell W. Fewell, 27, born in California - Russell is a "die and tool maker" (the line above has a Roy turner, 23, born in Loveland, Colorado - maybe a cousin ?)
82243566 is probably a daughter of Ruby.
Edward R Turner was born December 7, 1890 in Yuma County, and met Lillian, "who was from Arkansas. Her parents homesteaded near us. She was 18 and I was 23 when we got married on April 12, 1914...we were blessed with Paul , Roy (a medical doctor in Armstrong, Iowa), Dean, a trucker in St. Helena California, and Goldie, a nurse in Springfield, Massachusetts."
Frank Schoonover, 80 year old White Oak resident, died Saturday, January 11, 2014. Frank was born in Holly, Colorado on August 3, 1933 to Oman and Vera (Cochran) Schoonover. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. On September 15, 1983 he was united in marriage to Nancy. Frank worked as a heavy equipment operator for numerous years. Survivors include his wife Nancy, children: Ronnie of Stark City, MO, LaDonna of Neosha, MO, Nelda of Neosho, MO, step children: Pam of White Oak, Kevin of Jenks, Don of White Oak, and Angie of Big Cabin, siblings: Lynn of Riverside, CA, Hallie and wife Linda of Fairview, MO, Roger of Stark City, MO, Mary Ann and husband David of Diamond, MO, 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. |
Henry E. Cochran homesteaded in 24, 5N 48W, and John H. Cochran two miles northwest in 1915.
That has to be the H.E. Cockran in 1880 Lawrence County, Missouri, married to Lisa J 39, with Margaret 19, Henrietta A. 18, Sylvester 16, William F. 15, John H. 8, and Thomas M. 2. Older kids born in Illinois, John and Thomas in Missouri.
In 1900 Carroll County Arkansas "Henry U, Dicy J. and Harriet A Cockrim"
Also in Carroll County in 1900, John H. COCKRUM is married to Mary M. They have Earl R. 8, John L. 7, and Lillian A. 6.
That must be the Henry E. Cochran, father, 75, and Dicey J. 68, both born in Illinois, living with John H. and Mary in 1910 Yuma County. John's sister Harriet A. 40, Illinois, is also with them. Kids are Lillian A. 14, Hallie J. 9, Vera 4.
Dicey said that she had had ten kids, only two living.
Mary has had six kids, five living.
In the Clark plot in Shady Grove Cemetery, Berryville -"Lelalh Cochran - Daughter of J.H. & M.M. Cochran born and died Oct 14, 1896.

thanks to Bruce and Joanie Wilson - their tree has Mary Melvina (Mollie) Clark marrying John Henry Cochran in Arkansas in 1891.

in 1910 Yuma County is married to Lillian A. 24, and they have Paul L. 4, Ray M. 3, and Gavin E., three months.
One tree says she was Agnes Lillian Phillips, born August 3, 1894 in Hot Springs County, Arkansas. Another says she was Lilian Ardon Cochran born 1890 in "Haxtun, Yuma County"

In 1940 Happyville only Goldie , 11, is with them.

Mr. and Mrs. John W. Turner in 1915 "of the Bryant country, twenty miles north of Yuma, returned Sunday, after a three weeks' stay in Boulder and Denver.

William Albert Turner registered for WWI in Haxtun, saying he was born July 24, 1896 at Haxtun, and is married to Lula.
"Albert W." married Lula Belle Whaley February 2o0, 1916 at Campion, Larimer County, Colorado
In 1920 Albert is 23, Lula B. 22, and they have Florence V. 2. Living with them are in-laws Elias E. Whaley 63, Laura E. Whaley 57, Ruby V. 17, and Orvill O. 14.
In 1930 Yuma County Albert and Lula have Florence, and have added Claude L. 10
In 1940 - still Yuma County, Albert and Lula Bell have three Whaley nephews - Leroy 15, Robert James 13, and Calvin Ross 11. They're on the same census page as my aunt Zella MONK Piper, so they must be living near Clarkville.
California has a record of Lula B. Turner, born January 30, 1897 in Nebraska, dying May 16, 1995 in San Bernardino - mother's maiden name Orvis, father's surname Whaley.
