Clarence R. and Martha (Flaugh) (McConnell) Shannon, Bryant

Clarence's parents Martha (Colt) Shannon 1853-1928 and William R. Shannon 1847-1934 are buried in Brown County, Nebraska.

Clarence R. Shannon and Martha McConnell married in Sedgwick County, Colorado on October 23, 1909.

Thanks to Robert Allen, who notes "The guy in front is William Robert Shannon. His wife, Martha (Colt) Shannon is next to him. Not sure if she is related to the famous Colt family or not? The girl in the center is my grandma, Hazel. Clarence was the oldest child so I’m guessing he's the guy in the center of the back row but not certain of that.."

Mattie E. Flaugh, 24, born at Pella, Iowa, to Alexander Flaugh and Margarete Finnely, married James McConnell, 22, born at Harland, Iowa to Jr. McConnell and Jessie Poling, on January 7, 1896 in Shelby County, Iowa.

James A. McConnell and Mattie E. Flaugh had Gaylord Lee McConnell on July 15, 1897, in Greeley, Shelby County, Iowa.

Thanks to Robert Allen again for this photo.

"It may have been taken in Johnstown, Nebraska or Shelby County, Iowa? Martha (Colt) Shannon died in 1928 and is buried in Johnstown. I assume she was living there at the time of her demise. Hazel Shannon was born in Shelby County, Iowa in 1893. She is on the left in the back row and is an adult at the time of the picture. That would place the picture between 1893 and 1928. The children may be Clarence’s son and daughters. He had a son and 2 daughters in addition to his step children. Based on that, I’m guessing the picture is from around 1910. "

In 1910 they're in Sterling, Colorado, farming, Clarence 34 and Martha 38 both born in Iowa. This is his first marriage, her second. Gaylord McConnell is 12, Frank 10, Guy 8, Edna 6, Wayne 4 all born i Iowa, and their daughter Gladys five months.
