Donald Eugene Scheele left this world on Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.

He was born April 23, 1930, in Deshler Nebraska, the youngest of eight children born to Bernhardt Frederick Scheele and Sadie Regina Trauernicht Scheele. Most of Don's family moved to the Willamette Valley around 1950, including brothers Arthur and Leonard, and sister Alma Ousley. His older brother, John, still resides in Albany.

On July 22, 1951, he married Dora Mae Kennedy, originally settling in Lebanon, where his father, Ben, was chief of police. They had six children: Donald Mitchell Scheele, Polly Ann Beam, Julie Sue Daniels, Ronald Arthur Scheele, Richard Lee Scheele and Rachael Dee Butenschoen. Don remarried on May 14, 1976, to Laurene Patricia Perry Moore, adding Jerri Barreto, Bill Moore, Jacquie Page and Julie Campbell to the extended family. Don had a grand total of 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandkids.

Don got injured playing high school football, and got an infection called osteomyelitis in his leg. A doctor removed part of the bone and flesh which resulted in him having a limp the rest of his life. But, he seldom if ever complained about it.

Don worked for Standard Oil for around a decade during the ’50s and ’60s, as many new service stations were built around the Northwest. Each time he was promoted (and for other reasons) the growing family moved. They lived in Lebanon, Salem, Wren, Corvallis, Albany, Portland, Woodland Washington, and finally back to Lebanon where Don opened his own Chevron Station in 1966. During the last 50 years of his life, he worked at Primasing Motors, Lebanon Marine and the Lebanon Elks Club.

He was a dedicated fisherman wherever he went, and family vacations usually included that endeavor. Although he was not much of a cook, he was known to make a big pan of caramel, boil a pot of crawdads, cook up some morel mushrooms, or bake a pie with apples from his back yard.

Don was a very good pool and poker player, and counted on these skills to get him through lean times. He was also an avid fan of OSU Beaver and Lebanon Warrior football.

Kenneth Leroy, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Scheele, was born May 25, 1923 and passed away at the hospital in Yuma, January 6, 1925, aged one year, seven months, and twelve days.
Little Kenneth was a strong, healthy child until stricken with that dreaded disease pneumonia and intestinal flu, which soon sapped his strength and in ten days the Master said, "You have suffered enough; come unto Me and I will give you rest."
He was a bright little boy for his age, and endeared himself to all who had the privilege of looking into his smiling face. Soon after being taken sick, medical aid was summoned and all that science and skill and loving hands could do was done. Gradually growing worse, it was thought best to take him to the hospital in Yuma where he might receive the very best of care, but the Master willed that he should join the Heavenly host of little children there to await the coming of his loved ones here.
The funeral was held from the family home Friday afternoon. Rev. Jones spoke for twenty minutes upon this text bringing out many helpful, inspiring and encouraging thoughts and impressed upon his hearers that while we cannot bring little Kenneth back, we can so live that we can go to be with him.
Music was furnished by the Waverly choir which was most impressive and appropriate for the occasion. In addition to flowers furnished by the parents, the school which little Kenneth's sisters attended furnished flowers as also did the women's Waverly club.
The little body was laid to rest in the Yuma cemetery - thus another home is vacant, another soul in Heaven. He leaves to mourn their loss, his parents two sisters, as well as many other relatives and friends. They child's grandmother, Mrs. Ella Reynolds of Corning, Missouri arrived in time for the funeral.
