| Omaha Daily Bee, June 12, 1909: Council Bluffs News - James Ruberg, aged 58 years, died yesterday morning at his home, 1214 East Pierce street, after a year's illness. Besides his wife he leaves two daughters and three sons. Mr. Ruberg was preparing to remove with his family to Bryant, Colorado, where one daughter and two sons had already located. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence and burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery. Rev. G. D. Ray, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church, will conduct the services. |

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Delores (Swanson) Mc Evoy, Council Bluffs; son Jeff McEvoy and wife Randi of Harlan, IA; grandchildren and spouses, Michelle Plumb (Paul), Spirit Lake, IA, Christie Knudson (Jack), Irwin, IA, Rachel Aten (David), Blair, NE, Robyn Carter, Omaha, Brad and Matthew McEvoy, Council Bluffs; 5 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters -in-law, Darwin Swanson (Lynn), Elk Horn, IA, Jan Holtz (Dick), Walnut, IA; nieces; nephews and a host of friends. Elaine Janette Deitchler, the oldest of four daughters of Lillian Emma (Costine) and Walter Thomas Ruberg, was born on February 11, 1921 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa where she attended school. Elaine and Eldon Adolph "Red" Deitchler were married on May 2, 1943 in Rockport, Missouri. Soon after their marriage, Red entered the Army Air Force as an air cadet, became a second lieutenant and served as a bombardier. They made their home in Council Bluffs and as Red was transferred from base to base, Elaine would go and visit him. While living in Council Bluffs, Elaine worked at the Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha, Nebraska. Following Red's discharge in October of 1945, he returned to farm and they moved to live in Mineola, Iowa. They later purchased and moved to a farm five miles west of Henderson, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Robert, Vickie, and Philip. Elaine and Red were married 37 years when Red passed away on May 20, 1980. Elaine eventually moved back to Council Bluffs to live closer to her mother and sister. Later on, she lived in Malvern, Iowa for several years before moving in with her son Philip and family in Henderson, Iowa. Elaine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa and a member of the Mineola American Legion Auxiliary. She was a homemaker all her life, loved living on the farm, raising a vegetable garden, canning, and cooking for the hay crews. Elaine also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and visiting with friends and neighbors. She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Elaine passed away on April 29, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 91 years, 2 months, and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her father Walter Ruberg; mother Lillian Mowrey and husband Ray; son Robert Deitchler; and sisters, Evelyn Miller and husband Everett, Joyce Drabek, and Gretchen Minikus. Elaine is survived by her daughter Vickie Newell and husband Dave of Malvern; son Philip Deitchler and wife Patricia of Henderson; grandchildren, Ryan Newell and wife Julie of Ooltewah, TN, Brad Newell and wife Rachel of Kearney, NE, Scott Newell of Council Bluffs, Ashley Lundvall and husband Dain of Glenwood, and Kira Deitchler of Henderson; great grandchildren, Ethan and Eli Newell, Aiden and Alec Newell, and Emily, Clara, Nile, and Shay Lundvall; brother-in-law Jack Minikus of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Jacqueline Elaine "Jackie" Coyle died, Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at McCook Community Hospital in McCook, at the age of 75. She was born Jan. 10, 1931, in McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Charles and Faye (Harbaugh) Campbell. Jackie grew up and attended grade school in Yuma, Colo., and as a child the family moved to Evergreen, Colo. before returning to Yuma. She graduated from McCook Senior High School in 1950. On June 18, 1950, Jackie married Ervin Gerald "Jerry" Coyle at McCook. They resided at Holdrege, Nebraska for four years before moving to a farm in Hayes County. They moved to Culbertson in 1963 and then to McCook in 1988 where she spent the remainder of her life. She was preceded in death by an infant son Ronald Dean Coyle and by a teenage daughter Tracey Lee Coyle on Jan. 29, 1970. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother who also helped on the farm. Her pride and joy was her family and she attended all her grandchildren's events. Her love of animals lead her to help the Humane Society find homes for abused or neglected animals and she kept her bird feeder full for the birds she loved. She was member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson. Jackie is survived by her husband Jerry Coyle, one son Neal Coyle and one daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Funk and her husband Ken, three grandchildren; Brenden Funk, Nichelle Funk and Camden Funk all of McCook. One sister Peggy Ruberg of Yuma, Colo. She will be missed by her family and many friends in Yuma, Culbertson, McCook and Hayes County. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson with the Rev . Bradley Rick officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery. Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. |

Jacquelyn Jane “Jackie” Berkley, 84, a 13 year East Wenatchee resident passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, Washington, following a sudden illness. She was born on January 25, 1930 at Missouri Valley, Iowa to the late Drexel and Verona (Ruberg) Lewis. She was raised to the age of 5 in Iowa before the family moved to Ashland, Nebraska. Jackie was an active teenager; she played the viola in the high school orchestra, was the Drum Majorette and a cheerleader. She graduated in 1948 from Ashland High School and then continued her education at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, where she studied education. Jackie started her teaching career at Allenton, Iowa. She was married to James Ballou in 1950, after their farmhouse in Iowa burned; they relocated to Ashland, Nebraska. They later moved to Colorado Springs briefly before continuing on to Claremont, California. She went to work as a Police Matron and Secretary at the Claremont Police Department. On January 14, 1966, she was married to Robert “Bob” Berkley at Claremont, California, where they continued to make their home. She later went to work as the Secretary for Andressen Engineering in Claremont. In 1972, they moved to Redmond WA and later to Issaquah where they made their home. In the early 70’s, Jackie worked at Jones Associates Engineers in Bellevue as a secretary and later as a part-time Realtor. She semi retired and they continued to make their home in Issaquah until moving to East Wenatchee in January of 2001. She was a member of the PEO and Order of Eastern Star of Claremont, for over 50 years; National Society of Magna Charta Dames, Daughters of American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Daughters of Patriots and Founders of America, National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) and the local quilting club in Wenatchee. Among her many talents and pastimes was shopping, quilting, genealogy, reading and cooking. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Carl Lewis, Eugene "Alan" Lewis and an infant brother, Timothy Carey. Jackie is survived by her husband or 48 years, Robert “ Bob” Berkley, East Wenatchee; daughter, Cathy (Steven) Merryman, Sammamish, WA; stepchildren, Thomas Berkley, Lakewood, CA, Richard Berkley, Ontario, CA, Luann (Joseph) Perrott, Fairbanks, AK; sister, Barbara Ziegenbein, Ashland, NE; grandchildren, Angela (Jim) Schumacher, Sammamish, Melinda Merryman, Sammamish and Tyler Berkley, Ontario, CA. |
