Jimmy Lewis Ruberg, wife Ricca Ruberg, son James,

In 1885 Marshalltown, Iowa, James Ruberg, 31, is a saloon keeper.  He's married to Ricca, 24, and they have newborn Charles W..


There was a $4800 bond posted in April 18, 1899 Pottawattamie County Iowa by Thomas Johnson for guardianship of Alma Anna, James Lewis, Walter Thomas, and Carl William Ruberg.

In 1900 Pottawattomie County, Iowa James, Jan 1857 in Denmark, is a saloonkeeper.  Fredericka July 1860 in Denmark, has had five children, four living.  Carl April 1884, Elma June 1886, Jimmie October 1887, and Walter Mar 1897 - all in Iowa.



In 1908 Council Bluffs, Alma A. is a dipper for John G. Woodward & Co., boarding at 1214 E. Pierce. James and James L., Jr. both live at that address.

March 5, 1909 "James Ruberg, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, arrived this week with a car of household goods and will improve his farm twenty-five miles north of Yuma."

Omaha Daily Bee, June 12, 1909:

Council Bluffs News - James Ruberg, aged 58 years, died yesterday morning at his home, 1214 East Pierce street, after a year's illness. Besides his wife he leaves two daughters and three sons. Mr. Ruberg was preparing to remove with his family to Bryant, Colorado, where one daughter and two sons had already located. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence and burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery. Rev. G. D. Ray, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church, will conduct the services. 
 
 

 

In 1910 Ricca, 49, born in Denmark, is in north Yuma County.  She has Jimmie W. 22, Alena A. 23, Walter T. 13, and June F. 6 - all kids born in Iowa.


The family is next to the Fred and Hannah Nelson family, with nine kids, including Effie, 16.

In 1920 Ricca 59 and June 16 are in Denver. - Maybe the Alma Ruberg, 30, working as a "servant"  in 1920 Denver, is ours.


In 1922 Ricca Ruberg sued Carl E. Clark, William V. Smith, and W. H. Perry for foreclosing on the northeast of 21, 5N 47W.

The Council Bluffs 1924 directory has Ricca (wid Jas) living at 663 Hillcrest.


Ricca died in 1923, and is buried in Walnut Hill cemetery, Council Bluffs.

JAMES

James L. Ruberg married Effie "Nulson" February 11, 1911.


November 21, 1913 "Mrs. James Ruberg, of northeast of Yuma, departed Monday afternoon for Iowa, where she expects to remain for some time visiting relatives and friends.

Jimmy proved up on a quarter in 23, 548W in 1917, and Ricca a quarter in 1913 a quarter in section 13.

Jimmie Lewis Ruberg registered for WWI in Yuma, saying he was born Oct 8, 1888 in Marshaltown, Iowa, and had a wife and three children.


He was the secretary of School District # 26 (Bryant, Yuma County) in 1918.

In 1920 north Yuma County he's married to Effie F 25, and they have Florence C. 8, Richard F. 6, Ronald J. 5, and Raymond R. 2.


In 1924 A.G. Collins sued Jimmy L. and wife Effie Ruberg for collection of $360.

In 1930 Richard 16 and Ronald J. 15 are nephews, living with Philip and Mary Nielson in Yuma.'



August 1931


Jimmy might be the lodger in 1930 Council Bluffs, Iowa, a carpenter, widowed.

Florence Ruberg is in Council Bluffs in 1930, 19, a switchboard operator, rooming with the Frank Owen family.

In 1940 Jimmy is with daughter Florence McEvoy and her son Jimmie in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  She is  the Florence Delimont buried in Yuma in 1968, next to Richard F. and Peggy Lee Ruberg. 


Jimmy died in 1941, and is buried in Walnut Hill cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Ronald married Winifred Peterson October 18, 1934

McEvoy, Harold J. "Jim" Oct 16, 1930 - Jan 6, 2011 Council Bluffs. Passed away at his home at age 80. Born in Council Bluffs to Dennis H. and Florence G. Ruberg McEvoy and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. Jim served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and worked for Western Electric-AT&T from 1959 to 1989 as a pipe fitter. Memberships included St. Mark's United Methodist Church; Pioneers; and also was a former Boy Scout Leader.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Delores (Swanson) Mc Evoy, Council Bluffs; son Jeff McEvoy and wife Randi of Harlan, IA; grandchildren and spouses, Michelle Plumb (Paul), Spirit Lake, IA, Christie Knudson (Jack), Irwin, IA, Rachel Aten (David), Blair, NE, Robyn Carter, Omaha, Brad and Matthew McEvoy, Council Bluffs; 5 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters -in-law, Darwin Swanson (Lynn), Elk Horn, IA, Jan Holtz (Dick), Walnut, IA; nieces; nephews and a host of friends. VISITATION with family Sunday 3-5pm. FUNERAL SERVICES Monday 11am, all at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bay-liss Park Chapel, with Pastor Robert Abbott, Officiant. May 31, 1956 "Mrs. Raymond Ruberg and two children will leave Friday evening by train for a two weeks vaation. They will visit Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Delamont and Mr. and Mrs. James McEvoy in Council Bluffs Iowa and with Mrs. Ruberg's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter S. Peterson in Centerfille, South Dakota."

WALTER
Walter T. Ruberg moved back to Council Bluffs, marrying Lillian Costine, and they had Elaine in 1921, Evelyn 1922, Joyce 1925, and Gretchen in 1928.
In 1940 they're divorced, and Elaine 19, Evelyn 18, and Joyce 15 are living with Walter, 43, in Council Bluffs.

Evelyn was born March 4, 1922, name of Whittington in 1941, Toman in 1948, Miller in 1974.
In 1943 Council Bluffs "The first decree was awarded by default to Evelyn Maxine Whittington from James Ray Whittington on the ground of cruel and inhuman treatment. She was restored the use of her maiden name, Evelyn Ruberg, and granted judge- ment against Whittington for costs of the action and attorneys' fees."

" Kevin A. Minikus, age 52, of Council Bluffs, passed away December 19, 2013.
He was born in Council Bluffs, on September 13, 1961, to the late Jack and Gretchen (Ruberg) Minikus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kurt Minikus. "

"Jeffrey T. Drabek, age 55, passed away November 8, 2014.
He was born in Council Bluffs on May 25, 1959 to the late John & Joyce (Ruberg) Drabek.
Jeffrey is survived by his daughter, Natalie Churchill; sons, Jeremy Drabek and Cedrik Drabek; sisters, Janice Pieken (Thomas) and Judy Davis; brother, Jerry Drabek; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is Wednesday 6-8PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Graveside service is Thursday 1PM in the Hazel Dell Cemetery followed by a reception and luncheon in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. "


Elaine Janette Deitchler, the oldest of four daughters of Lillian Emma (Costine) and Walter Thomas Ruberg, was born on February 11, 1921 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa where she attended school.

Elaine and Eldon Adolph "Red" Deitchler were married on May 2, 1943 in Rockport, Missouri. Soon after their marriage, Red entered the Army Air Force as an air cadet, became a second lieutenant and served as a bombardier. They made their home in Council Bluffs and as Red was transferred from base to base, Elaine would go and visit him.

While living in Council Bluffs, Elaine worked at the Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha, Nebraska. Following Red's discharge in October of 1945, he returned to farm and they moved to live in Mineola, Iowa. They later purchased and moved to a farm five miles west of Henderson, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Robert, Vickie, and Philip.

Elaine and Red were married 37 years when Red passed away on May 20, 1980. Elaine eventually moved back to Council Bluffs to live closer to her mother and sister. Later on, she lived in Malvern, Iowa for several years before moving in with her son Philip and family in Henderson, Iowa.

Elaine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa and a member of the Mineola American Legion Auxiliary. She was a homemaker all her life, loved living on the farm, raising a vegetable garden, canning, and cooking for the hay crews. Elaine also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and visiting with friends and neighbors. She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Elaine passed away on April 29, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 91 years, 2 months, and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her father Walter Ruberg; mother Lillian Mowrey and husband Ray; son Robert Deitchler; and sisters, Evelyn Miller and husband Everett, Joyce Drabek, and Gretchen Minikus.

Elaine is survived by her daughter Vickie Newell and husband Dave of Malvern; son Philip Deitchler and wife Patricia of Henderson; grandchildren, Ryan Newell and wife Julie of Ooltewah, TN, Brad Newell and wife Rachel of Kearney, NE, Scott Newell of Council Bluffs, Ashley Lundvall and husband Dain of Glenwood, and Kira Deitchler of Henderson; great grandchildren, Ethan and Eli Newell, Aiden and Alec Newell, and Emily, Clara, Nile, and Shay Lundvall; brother-in-law Jack Minikus of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial fund has been established. Interment in Mineola Cemetery


Jacqueline Elaine "Jackie" Coyle died, Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at McCook Community Hospital in McCook, at the age of 75.
She was born Jan. 10, 1931, in McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Charles and Faye (Harbaugh) Campbell. Jackie grew up and attended grade school in Yuma, Colo., and as a child the family moved to Evergreen, Colo. before returning to Yuma. She graduated from McCook Senior High School in 1950.
On June 18, 1950, Jackie married Ervin Gerald "Jerry" Coyle at McCook. They resided at Holdrege, Nebraska for four years before moving to a farm in Hayes County. They moved to Culbertson in 1963 and then to McCook in 1988 where she spent the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by an infant son Ronald Dean Coyle and by a teenage daughter Tracey Lee Coyle on Jan. 29, 1970. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother who also helped on the farm. Her pride and joy was her family and she attended all her grandchildren's events.
Her love of animals lead her to help the Humane Society find homes for abused or neglected animals and she kept her bird feeder full for the birds she loved.
She was member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson.
Jackie is survived by her husband Jerry Coyle, one son Neal Coyle and one daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Funk and her husband Ken, three grandchildren; Brenden Funk, Nichelle Funk and Camden Funk all of McCook. One sister Peggy Ruberg of Yuma, Colo. She will be missed by her family and many friends in Yuma, Culbertson, McCook and Hayes County.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson with the Rev . Bradley Rick officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

JUNE

June, along with Anna Lundgren, both of Denver, attended the 1919 wedding of John Brand and Judith Neilson.

June Ruberg married William R. Pabst October 7, 1924, recorded in Jefferson County, Colorado.


June Olga Pabst, wife of William R. Pabst, died March 24, 1925 in Chicago. This one was born June 7, 1903 in Colorado, but is buried in Council Bluff, Iowa.
June is buried in Walnut Hill cemetery, Council Bluffs.

CARL

Carl was born April 26, 1884 at Marshall Iowa.
He married Burcha E. Glenn October 4, 1906 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Carl Wiliam Ruberg registered for WWI in St. Clair County, Michigan, a mailman, born April 26, 1884, wtih Buraha Ruberg at the same address in Huron.

Still a mailman in 1920, they have Myrtle 8 and Clifford 6.

In 1930 Saunders County, Nebraska, Carl W. is a chiropractor, 45, B. Ellen 42, both born in Iowa, with Norman 18, Hazel 16 both born in Michigan.

1934 "Mrs. D. E. Lewis and four children left Monday evening for their home at Missouri Valley, Iowa, after a month's visit with the Dr. Ruberg family."
That would be Verona Mae Ruberg, wife of Drexel Elmer Lewis.

In 1940 Carl and Burche E. are both chiropractors, and daughter Verna M. Lewis, 32, widowed, with her kids Carl 13, Barbara 11, Jacqulyn 9, and Alan 7 all born in Iowa.

Carl is buried in Saunders County, Nebraska, 1884-1945 # 41948181.
So is B. Ellen 1887-1951, # 41948180.
Norman C. 1911-1969 is there, # 41948182.

Hazel F. (Ruberg) Ludwig 1913-1995 is buried in Ashland, with a stone for John A. 1911-1976, note that John is buried in Phoenix.

One history of Ashland says of a building "The general merchandise line of stock was continued until July 6, 1946, when dry goods, notions and shoe departments were bought by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Ruberg, and they continued in the same location until 1951, when they moved. (editors note - "RUBERGS" moved to the Butler Bldg. - in 2013 known as Breadeaux Pizza) "

Jacquelyn Jane “Jackie” Berkley, 84, a 13 year East Wenatchee resident passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, Washington, following a sudden illness.
She was born on January 25, 1930 at Missouri Valley, Iowa to the late Drexel and Verona (Ruberg) Lewis. She was raised to the age of 5 in Iowa before the family moved to Ashland, Nebraska. Jackie was an active teenager; she played the viola in the high school orchestra, was the Drum Majorette and a cheerleader. She graduated in 1948 from Ashland High School and then continued her education at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, where she studied education. Jackie started her teaching career at Allenton, Iowa. She was married to James Ballou in 1950, after their farmhouse in Iowa burned; they relocated to Ashland, Nebraska. They later moved to Colorado Springs briefly before continuing on to Claremont, California. She went to work as a Police Matron and Secretary at the Claremont Police Department.
On January 14, 1966, she was married to Robert “Bob” Berkley at Claremont, California, where they continued to make their home. She later went to work as the Secretary for Andressen Engineering in Claremont. In 1972, they moved to Redmond WA and later to Issaquah where they made their home. In the early 70’s, Jackie worked at Jones Associates Engineers in Bellevue as a secretary and later as a part-time Realtor. She semi retired and they continued to make their home in Issaquah until moving to East Wenatchee in January of 2001.
She was a member of the PEO and Order of Eastern Star of Claremont, for over 50 years; National Society of Magna Charta Dames, Daughters of American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Daughters of Patriots and Founders of America, National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) and the local quilting club in Wenatchee. Among her many talents and pastimes was shopping, quilting, genealogy, reading and cooking. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Carl Lewis, Eugene "Alan" Lewis and an infant brother, Timothy Carey.
Jackie is survived by her husband or 48 years, Robert “ Bob” Berkley, East Wenatchee; daughter, Cathy (Steven) Merryman, Sammamish, WA; stepchildren, Thomas Berkley, Lakewood, CA, Richard Berkley, Ontario, CA, Luann (Joseph) Perrott, Fairbanks, AK; sister, Barbara Ziegenbein, Ashland, NE; grandchildren, Angela (Jim) Schumacher, Sammamish, Melinda Merryman, Sammamish and Tyler Berkley, Ontario, CA.


ALMA

In 1908 Council Bluffs, Alma A. is a dipper for John G. Woodward & Co., boarding at 1214 E. Pierce. James and James L., Jr. both live at that address.


In 1920 Denver, Alma Ruberg is 33, one of three servants for Mary Kountze, 70, with a widowed daghter and a brother George Estabrook who manages an automobile agency.

March 1927 "Miss Alma Ruburg, a former resident of Yuma county who had been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Strong and others north of Yuma, returned to her home in Denver Sunday."

In 1929 Yuma County, Henry Hueners and Christ Huerners sued Alma Ruberg and J. Edward Strong for collection of $2,800 on a note for land in 26, 5N 48W.

In 1930 there's an Alma Ruberg in San Diego, one of three servants for the Hettie Skinner family. Hettie has a widowed daughter Blanche C. Cuppa 33 and son James Skinner 20, Illinois.

November 1933 Lincoln, Nebraska "Miss Alma Ruberg left Tuesday for Savannah, Missouri."

HASTINGS, Neb., Sept. 21, 1934 - "Louis Strong, 43, Juniata, is dead and a woman who gave her name as Alma Ruberg is in a critical condition in a hospital here as a result of an automoble-truck crash last night. The car in which Strong and the woman were riding crashed headon into a truck driven by Pred Bannler of Hildreth. Bannler and a companion, John Slaughter, escaped with minor injuries. The accident occurred on highway 6 near Kenesaw. Strong’s mother. Mrs. Ella T. Strong of Juniata, had not seen her son for several weeks and was not aware of his whereabouts until word came he had died within a few miles of her home. She thought he had been at Yuma, Colorado, where a brother, Edward, lives. The injured woman said she has a brother, Carl Ruberg, at Ashland. County officials indicated there would be no inquest. Strong was not blamed.

February 1934 "Miss Alma Ruberg of Council Bluffs is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Ruberg."

September 27, 1934 - Bryant items "Ed Strong last week received the sad news that his brother Louis had been killed in an auto wreck. He left Friday night for Kensington, Kansas to attend the funeral."

October 11, 1934

June died in 1935, and is buried in Walnut Hill cemetery, Council Bluffs.

In February 1936 Alma's will said that all of her property was to be bequeathed to her brother Dr. Carl W. Ruberg of Missouri Valley, Iowa, the executor. When Carl filed in January 1936 he was living at Ashland, Nebraska. The notice was to Walter Ruberg as a borther and heir-at-law, living out of Colorado.

1939 Humboldt, Iowa "Charles Ruberg has returned home. He has been husking corn in the Fort Dodge neighborhood since October 1st."

1943 Humboldt, Iowa "Mrs. Frank Kendall, Webster City, was a recent guest at the home of her mother, Mrs. Anna J. Ruberg."
