ROY
November 1907 "Roy Reece, son of S. M. Reece north of Yuma, is under arrest at Smith Center, Kans., for a
murder which happened near Edison, Nebr., about the eleventh day
of August last.
The Reece family is highly respected here and the citizens are very sorry to learn that people of Nebraska and Kansas
should bring their names before the public in connection with a
murder. Our people are furnishing affidavits that should clear
the name of Roy in any such charge. Among the affidavits is one of
Cashier Campbell, with a personal check of Roy Reece attached,
which shows that the young man was here on Saturday, the 10th day
of August, and others which should convince the authorities
that he could not have been near Edison at the time of the
crime.
To our own personal knowledge the two brothers called
on us on Friday or Saturday afternoon for a watch which had been
left with us and said that they would leave Sunday
for Smith Center, which would have been August 11, and in the
issue of August 15 we made mention of the fact that the young
people had gone. The affidavits of which there are
a number should clear him of the charge."
