that on the 10th day of October, 1887, H. H. Hildebrand, as their guardian,
filed in the Probate Court of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, a petition in which they are defendants, j the object anil prayer of which is to pro-; cure said Court to order the sale of the i undivided two twenty-one (2-21) parts of 480 acres of land,
situated in Bucks township. Tuscarawas county, Ohio, and of two /twenty-one (2-21) parts of 55 acres of land situated
in Coshocton county, Ohio, owned by said Philip C. Putt and Alta L. Putt,
subject to the dower estate of the widow of Philip Mizer, deceased therein."
In 1898 Philip was in the general roster of the First Nebraska, mustered into
service May 9, June 5 sailing on the "Senator" from San Francisco, arriving
Manila Bay July 17, participating in the assault on Manila, caputring it August
13. On February 4, 1899 on the Pasig River, the First Nebraska fired the
first shots in the insurrection. - the Battle of Santa Mesa. The regiment
sailed from Manila July 21, arriving San Francisco July 29, mustered out August
23.

In 1900 George, Catharine, Philip- a grocer, June 1870 in Ohio, and sister
Alta L. a hairdresser - June 1873 in Ohio, are in Beatrice, Nebraska/
Philip filed for an invalid pension on September 25, 1900,
for service in C, First Nebraska Infantry.
April 1909 "P.C. Putt of Bryant made Yuma a business visit Monday."

In 1910 Philip, age 39, born in Ohio, is single in north Yuma County.
He's still there, still single, in 1920 and 1930 and 1940.
Philip proved up a quarter in 27, 5N 47W in 1915 - same time period as adjoining
neighbors Miles Clark and Guy Sylvester.
April 1915 "Mrs. J. Putt and Mrs. John McCree stopped off here last Friday
evening to visit their son and brother, respectively, Phillip Putt, twenty-five
miles northeast of Yuma. The ladies are on their way from Denver to their
home in Beatrice, Nebraska."
One tree said that "Sada" Putt married John William McCrea in Beatrice in
1904, and died in Denver in 1963.
March 1932 Yuma "A number from this vicinity attended the Putt sale last Friday."
Philip 1870-1943 is buried in the Yuma cemetery.

Beatrice Nebraska Daily Sun - March 11, 1943 Funeral
services for Philip Putt, veteran of the Spanish-American war and a resident
of Yuma County for 33 years were at the Richey funeral home Tuesday February
Frederick Nichol, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating.
Burial was in the Yuma cemetery where military committal rites were
conducted by members of the local American Legion. Philip Crawford Putt was born in
June 1870 at Bakersville, Ohio, and passed away February at the Veterans hospital at Cheyenne at
the age of 72 years, eight months and eight days.
When he was 12 years old he went with his parents to Iowa where they lived until 1885 when the family moved to Jennings, Kansas Again in 1890 the family
moved to Beatrice, Nebraska. While living there he receiveda serious neck injury but in time fully recovered.
On April 27, 1898, he enlisted in First regiment of Nebraska infantry and saw service in
the Phillipines. He was honorably discharged August 23, 1899, being a corporal at that time.
In 1910
he homesteaded north east of Yuma and that place remained his home the
rest of his life. A number of years ago failing health due to injuries
incurred in the army caused him to retire from active farming.
On January 28 he was taken to the Veterans hospital for treatment but he failed to
recover and passed away Saturday, His sister Miss Alta was with
him at the time. He was a member in good standing of United
Spanish war veterans at Sterling He is survived by two sisters
Miss Putt of Denver and Sadie McCrea of Beatrice, Nebraska, and three nephews. His long
residence here resulted in making many warm friendships. His many friends and
neighbors regret his passing.

The January 1944 notice of heirship had Alta L. Putt of 1709 Williams Street, Denver,
Sada McCrea of 801 California Street, Klamath Falls, Oregon, and nephew Guy Hildebrand of West Liberty, Iowa.

Edgar H. Hildebrand and Maggie A. Putt married 8 Aug 1885 in Muscatine, Iowa. She was 20, daughter of
Geo. W. Putt and Amanda A. Mizer.
August 7, 1939 Cedar Rapids, Iowa
"Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Hilderbrand, 74, were conducted
Monday at the First Methodist church in West Liberty by the Rev. W. A.
Smith. Mrs. Hilderbrand had been a resident of Muscatine county for more
than 60 years. She died Saturday at the home of her son, Guy Hilderbrand.
Mrs. Hilderbrand had been in failing health for the last year. Friday she
fell from a porch to a cement walk, causing a basal skull fracture which
hastened her death. As Margaret Elizabeth Putt she was born in Ohio and at
the age of 11 she came to Iowa with her parents. In 1885 she was married to
Edgar Hoover Hilderbrand of Cedar Valley. They lived in Oberlin, Kan., and
Cedar Valley before moving to West Liberty She was a member of the Cedar
Valley Methodist church and the Adah Rebckah lodge. Besides the son. she is
survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters and
one bother, Phillip Putt of Yuma, Colo.; Miss Alta Putt of Denver, Colo.,
and Mrs. Sadie McCrea of Beatrice, Neb. Pallbearers were W. W. Anderson, W.
L. Mackey, C. A. Peters, E. C. Kerr, Guy Flater and A. N. Rabe.
Mr. Guy Hildebrand, 80, of the Cedar Valley and West Liberty area, died early today at the Iowa City extended care center after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 6, 1888 at Jennings, Kan., he was a life resident of this community.
Guy Hildebrand married the former Harriet Arnold, Oct. 18, 1911 at West Liberty. He was a member of the Cedar Valley United Methodist church and a retired Muscatine County farmer having farmed all his life in the Cedar Valley-West Liberty area.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Harriet Hildebrand; four sons, Wilson, Medford, Ore., Russell, Dallas, Texas, Lester, Kansas City, Mo., and Ed of West Liberty; four daughters, Mrs. Janet Smith and Mrs. Margaret Kerr, both of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Leota Nortman and Mrs. Dorothy Phelps, both of West Liberty; also 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the West Liberty United Methodist church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Beatrice Nebraska Daily Sun December 13, 1963 Sada Elizabeth
McCrea, 83, Denver Colo., a former Beatrice resident, died Thursday
afternoon in a Denver hospital. She was born Dec. 22, 1879, at Coshotton,
Ohio, and moved to Denver from Beatrice in 1947. She was a member of the
Centenary Methodist Church. Preceding her in death was her husband, John
William McCrea, July 4, 1945. Surviving are two sons, Max of Beatrice
and Maurice of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Mrs. Alta Putt, Denver; nine
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be
held Tuesday at 10 a. m. from the Harman Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Walter
L. Jewett officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery. |
