Nels and Hannah (Johnson) Peterson, Bryant
Nels E. Peterson cash-claimed a quarter in section 12 in 1891.
He might have married Mary Olsson, sister of Anna (Olsson) Hanson, who died in childbirth in 1895, buried in Yuma.
Nels and Hannah Johnson married in Yuma County on September 5, 1896.
In 1900 Yuma County, Nels is farming,
born Nov 1856 in Sweden, immigrating in 1882, married four years to
Hannah Dec 1849 Sweden, immigrating in 1881 - She's had no kids.
His mother Annie Peterson born Dec 1827 in Sweden, immigrating in 1890,
has had two kids, one living. "Alesen" Peterson, nephew, was born Dec 1893 in Illinois.
March 1900 "Orders were granted declaring Brons Ernest Samnelson,
an infant, the adopted child of Nels Peterson and wife.
1902 Yuma "Fred Neilson, Nels Peterson and Andrew Peterson of Bryant,
transacted business in town Monday."
Nels is buried in Yuma 1856-1905 (later moved from Rockland), with Hanna 1848-1936 # 74217690.
"Nels Peterson of Bryant died Monday at St. Lukes Hospital at Denver
of cancer of the stomach. Mr. Peterson was a pioneer of Magee precinct,
a native of Sweden, an earnest and devout Christian, a man whose word was
as good as his bond, well beloved by all that knew him. Yuma County has
lost a good citizen. The body arrived at Yuma Wednesday evening on
No. 11 and was taken to Rockland cemetery for burial. A good man has
gone home."
In 1910 Yuma County, Hannah is widowed, 60, with son Ernest 16 born in Colorado.
In 1920 Yuma County, Earnest is 36, married to Elsa 28, with Walden 6.
Hanna is widowed, 80.
January 1935 "Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Petersen, Mrs. Hannah Petersen and son Dale spent last Thursday at the Wm. Anderson home."
When Hannah's estate was probated, the listing of notifications included Anna Johnson,
John August Johnson, Alma Lindstrom, Olga Urban, Esther Ashwood,
Hilda Borek, Ruth Zurcher,
May Anderson, Harry Anderson, Carl G. Johnson, Gustaf A. Johnson,
and Waldemar T. Johnson. She left all her property to her
adopted son Ernest Peterson.
(In 1900 Phelps County, Nebraska, John P. Johnson is 47, with Emily 39, J. August 19, Alma L. 13, Olga E. 11, Esther C. 9, Hilda E. 6, and Lillie O. 3.
He possibly is the John Johnson who proved up a quarter in section 30, 5N 48W in 1894, and timber-claimed another in 1897.
Peter Johnson, Jr. cash-claimed a quarter next to him in section 19 in 1891.
Elsa is buried in Yuma, 1901-1939, with
Ernest 1893-1969 # 74217596.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ernest Peterson who died in Eben Ezer sanitarium at Brush last Thursday m morning after an extended illness, were held at Bryant Community church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Fondell of Fairfield officiating. Interment was at Rockland cemetery.
Elsa Charlotte Johnson was born January 10, 1901 in Skaraborg Lan Vestorgotland, Sweden, and died May 11, 1939 at the age of 38 years 4 months, one day. She was confirmed to the Lutheran faith and remained faithful until her death.
She came to America in October, 1919 OR 1910?????? and lived with her aunt, Mrs. John Nordholm, until May 24, 1923 on which date she was married to Ernest Peterson of south of Haxtun. To this union one son - Walden - was born.
The deceased became ill one week before Christmas and for a time was cared for by relatives and friends. On January 10 she was taken to a Sterling hospital and after treatment there was able to return to her home. A few days later, however, her condition took a turn for the worse and she was removed to the Brush sanitarium. Everything within human power was done to relieve her suffering, but the end came at 11:30 o'clock Thursday morning. She was a good and faithful wife and mother and will greatly missed by all who knew her.
Besides her husband and son, she is survived by her father and mother, three sisters, and one brother, all of whom reside in Sweden; an aunt, Mrs. John Nordholm, of Iliff, and several other less near relatives and a host of friends.
