John E. and Mahala Owen, William E. Owen, Bryant


Adams County Ohio July 1851 " There have been two deaths in the family of Mr. Owen, residing about three miles north of this place, his wife and daughter. A son of Mr. Hartness, grand-child of Mr. Owen, has also died. Besides these, we have heard of no other cases in the county."

Quillen Owen died October 1869 in Marion County, Iowa, age 1.

In 1870 Marion County, Iowa, John Owen is 31, farming, with Elvira 27, William 4, and Berry two months.

Elvira was nearby in 1860 Mahaska County, 17, with S. H. Berry 45 and Ellen 37. Wm. G. is 15, John P. 12, Sarah C. 9, Samuel W. P. 6, Levi G. 4, and Lydia E. 1.

John E. Owen and Mahala Case married on October 4, 1874 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mahala was born in New York September 20, 1831 to Alonoon Ripley and Sarah Frinkle.
Mahala Ripley had married William Pelkey on Dec 23, 1848 in Pike County, Illinois.

In 1856 Hennepin County, Minnesota, Emanuel Case is 60, Mahala 25, Sarah Ripley 16 and Adeline Ripley 12.

In 1860 Minneapolis, E. Case is 60, Mahala E. 39, with Douglas E. 1, born in Minnesota and Lola 18 born in Arkansas.

Col. Emanuel Case had come from Michigan and opened a store in St. Anthony, Minnesota in the spring of 1851, with his son, Sweet W. Cae, as a partner. He and Peter Poncin had a controversy over a claim of 160 acres on th ewest side of the river, and Case won the dispute. In March 1852 James Gale Case, aged 20, slipped through a watering hole near the west bank of the river, and one book says it was the second death in Minneapols. The same authro says the second death was the wife of Colonel Case in 1852.
His house is the oldest surviving residence in north Minneapolis.

She was in Minneapolis in 1870, 31, with Emanuel Case 75 and Emanuel 12.
(" CASE, E. D. was born in Minneapolis, October 2d, 1857. He was married December 24th, 1878, to Eva M. Cobb. E. D. is the son of Emanuel Case, one of the early settlers of Hennepin county, who died a few years since. Mr. Case is engaged in the livery business at 211 Plymouth Avenue. "
Frances Elsie Allen of Toledo and Douglas Emanuel Case of Minneapolis married July 14, 1881."

Douglas E. Case and Francis Elsie Allen had Mahala Frances Case in 1886 in Lyons, Kansas, who married Wm. Roy Skeels on Nov 30, 1916 in Grinnell County, Iowa.)

In 1880 Marion County, Iowa, John Owen is 42, born in Ohio , farming, Mahala 41 in New York. Willie is 14, Berry 9, both born in Iowa.

John, 46, Mahala, 47, William 19 and Berry 14 are in Marion County in 1885.

John E. Owen and Mahala Owen divorced in Washington County, Colorado in 1888. (Which at that time included Yuma.)

John cash-claimed a quarter in section 31, 4N 48W in 1891.


Mahala is in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1900, widowed, born Sept 1833 in New York with son Douglas E. Case and his family.


Berry W. Owen, 23, son of John E. Owen and Aleva J. Berry, farmer, (his second marriage) to Louise M. McGee, 23, daughter of James A. McGee and Ann Dillon on June 17, 1892 in Monroe County, Iowa.
Berry 1870-1921 is buried in Marion County, with Louisa M. 1869-1956, children Blanche L. Tucker 1895-19970, Beulah L. Bailey and Clyde K. Owen.


John E. Owen 1839-1890 is buried in Marion County, Iowa # 68157924, son of Mary Owen 1801-1851. His spouses were Elvira Jane (Berry) Owen 1842-1872 and Mahala Ripley Case 1831-1916. Mahala is buried in Pike County, Illinois,# 110028558, with Douglas E. Case 1858-1900. Douglas' wife Elsie Frances Allen was born in Toledo, Ohio, Dec 15, 1862, to Burrett Allen and Fannie Waldo, dying in Chicago October 16, 1941, to be buried in Rosehill.

WILLIAM

In 1917 R.W. Hopkins sued Charles H. Shade and Heirs of John E. Owen, deceased for claim to that land.

William cash-claimed a quarter in section 32, 4N 48W in 1891.


John's son William Edward Owen 1866-1941 is buried in Marion County # 78527305


William married, per one tree, Emma McKee on January 30, 1901 in Marion County, Oregon.
