John R. Miller is 19 in 1880 Fulton County, Illinois, with Daniel 60 and Mariah J.., 49, faming. Washington F. 24 adn Zelma R. 22 are teaching school. Nancy M. is 13, Anna B. 10, and Jennie G. 8.

John R. Miller, 28, and Jennie L. Wolf, 25, married in Akron, Colorado on November 21, 1888.

John cash-claimed a quarter in section 6, 5N 48W in 1891.



In 1900 Harvey County, Kansas, Randolph Miller has no occupation, born January 1859, married 12 years to Jennie August 1863, both in Illinois, have Gilbert born Augusut 1889 in Colorado, Russell Feb 1891 in Nebraska, and Bryan Sept 1895 and Donald Oct 1897 both born in Illinois.

In 1910 Harvey County, John R. has no occupation, Jennie is a music teacher, Gilbert 20 has no occuption, Russell is a packer in a wholesale house, Bryan 14, Donald W are in school, and Avie A. 8 and Linwood 3 were born in Kanss.

1913 Newton, Kansas "Jennie Miller, of Halstead, was a welcome caller at the Journal office. Tuesday afternoon."

In 1920 Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, John is a carpenter, 59, Virginia L. 56, Avis 17 and Lenwood 13.

John R. is a carpenter back in Harvey County in 1930, Virginia a music teacher.

In 1940 Harvey County, John R. is 59, Virginia 76, with Avie, 38, no occupation.

Jennie 1863-1941 is buried in Harvey County # 54156614, with John Randolph Miller 1860-1948 # 54156553.

GILBERT - SON OF JOHN

Gilbert Lionel Miller registered for WWI in Seattle, Washington, a barber, born August 13, 1889 in Denver, currently unemployed.

He's a barber in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana in 1920, 30, with Gertrude H. 23 born in Germany and Frank G. eight months old, born in Louisiana. They're living next to Johnand Jennie.

When he applied for passport for him, Gertrude and Frank to go to Germany to visit her parents, his mother, Mrs. J. R

He's still a barber in Calcasieu Parish in 1930, with Gertrude H. 33, Frank G. 10, and Avis R. 5.

In 1940, still a barber, 50, Gertrude 43, Frank 20, Avis R. 15, and Anna B. 7.


When he registered for WWII in De Quincy, Lousiana, he said he was born at LESLIE, Colorado.

Thier Son Frank G. Miller, born April 24, 1919 in De Quincy, Lousiana to Gilbert Miller of Colorado and Gertrude Rutkowski, died at the VA hospital in Tucson on April 14, 1960. He was to be buried in Grantwood Memorial Park, Tucson.

Anna Blanche Shirley was born January 11, 1933 in DeQuincy, Louisiana, dying September 1998.

Avis Ruth Miller and Frank C. Carley had Sharon Ann Carley on August 13, 1949 in Ohio, marrying a Hutton, and dying in Corpus Christi July 20, 1980, to be buried in DeQuincy, Lousiana. FindaGrave # 34919819 says "Mother of Robert Dana, daughter of Avis Ruth Carley."

AVIS

"Avis Miller Popkins, 88, Halstead, died Tuesday, May 8, 1990 at Regency Health Care Center, Halstead. She was born December 7, 1901 the daughter of John Randolph and Virginia Wolk Miller. She married Vernon Popkins November 21, 1944 in Halstead. He died June 11, 1966. She was a retired teacher and librarian and had been a lifetime resident of Halstead.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Halstead.
Survivors: three nieces, Avis Carley, DeQuincy, Louisiana; Anna Shirley, Houston, Texas; and Myrna Patch, North Dakota; one nephew, Donald Miller, also of North Dakota. She was preceded in death by four brothers.
Graveside services were held Friday May 11 at the Halstead Cemetery with the Rev. Roger O. Shanks in charge."


BRYAN

Bryan R. Miller, principal of the high school in Marshalltown, Iowa, 39, born at Canton Illinois to John R. Miller and VIrginia Larue Wolf, married Norma A. Kringer, 32 born at Maryville, North Dakota to Pterr M. Kringer and Helen Julia Rockney, in Marshalltown on June 19, 1934.

GILBERT - BROTHER OF JOHN

"Gilbert L. Miller was born in Joshua township, Fulton Co., Illinois, June 8, 1852; lived until the age of 1? on his father's farm, securing during that time a common-school education. He then entered the office of Dr. G. W. Wright, of Canton, where he studied medicine for two years and a half, during this time at- tending a course of lectures at the College of Physicians and Sur- geons at Keokuk, Iowa; then taught school for five years and six months: during two years of this time he read law. June 1, 1877, entered into partnership with Horace J. Leigh, — in the printing business, — publishing the Fulton County Advertiser. He was married June 6, 1878, to Dora F. (McClure) Slocum, daughter of Henry S. McClure, and adopted daughter of the late Stephen P. Slocum, of Canton. "

Joseph Bell wrote "In the spring of 1860 I returned to Davis county, Iowa, where I followed my vocation until the fall of 1863, when I came to Fulton county, Ill., and taught the winter term of school in the Randolph district, At this school Gilbert L. Miller and Meredith Walker, two prominent Canton attorneys and citizens, were among my pupils"

Gilbert L. Miller and Dora Frances Slocum married in Fulton County, Illinois on June 6, 1878.

Gilbert is a widower in 1880 Fulton County, 27, in the printing business.

He married Cora B. McCartney on November 19, 1881 in Sangamon County, Illinois.
Gilbert L. Miller timber-claimed a quarter in section 3 in 1900.

In 1900 Fulton County, Illinois, Gilbert L. Miller is a lawyer, 48, with Cora B. 39, Rachel M. 17, Lyle Charles, 15, and Bertha E. 10.

All five are in Fulton County in 1910. Gilbert a lawyer, and none of the three kids have occupations.

Cora B. Miller, 51, died in Sonoma County on June 8, 1915.

Gilbert, 77, died in Sonoma County, California on December 23, 1929.


Rachel is a public school nurse in Palo Alto, California in 1930 and 1940, living alone.

Rachel M. Miller, born January 23, 1883 in Illinois, died May 26, 1963 in Monterey County, California, mother McCartney.
She's buried in Fulton County # 122050190, on the same tombstone as Bertha E. 1889-1953, Charles L. Baby daughter 1887.., Helen 1891, and Marguerite 1893-1895.

Bertha Miller and Sherwin R. Gutermute married in Carson City, Nevada on Sept 26, 1916.

Bertha is in Sonoma County in 1920, married to Sherwin Gutermute, 26, with Ray Ellen 2, Janet 1, and newborn Sherwin.

In 1930 Sonoma County, Sherwin R. Derby is 46, Bertha M. 40, Rae Ellen 12, Janet V. 11, S. Lyle 10, and Lynn R. 8.
Bertha died in Sonoma County on January 8, 1953, born August 19, 1889 in Illinois.
She's buried in Petaluma, Sonoma County, # 124302301, with Sherwin R. 1893-1991.


Lyle is a railroad brakeman in 1920 Fulton County, married to Jessie 23, with their newborn Velma, and Jessie's kids Verne Reynolds 6 and Ottis Reynolds 5.

Charles L. Miller 1884-1956 is buried in Cass County, Illinois # 52509205, with Jessie 1886-1953.

Rae Ellen Heidt, 94, of Albany died peacefully Monday at her home in the Mennonite Village. This picture was taken on her 94 birthday.
Rae Ellen was born in Petaluma, Calif., to Sherwin and Bertha (Miller) Derby. She grew up in Petaluma and attended San Jose State College where she met Norman E. Heidt. They were married June 10, 1939.
Rae Ellen and Norman both excelled in music in college and continued with their love of music while playing in the Vallejo Symphony. Rae Ellen was active in PTA, Girl Scouts and Benicia Aquatic Club. She also taught at Saint Catharine's and Saint Dominic's until she retired to travel with her husband who had retired earlier.
Rae Ellen and Norman loved to travel and camp. They made many trips across country to visit their daughter's family living in Ohio and their son's family living in southern California.
Rae Ellen moved to Oregon with her daughter when Norman was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1990. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, husband Norman in 1994, son Sherwin Heidt in 2000 and granddaughter Jacquelyn Scoggins in 2008.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Heidt Scoggins; brother John Derby and wife Patricia; daughter-in-law Marsha Heidt; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Rae Ellen will be dearly missed. She lived with her daughter, Lyn, for 21 years. They enjoyed traveling and seeing God's beautiful creations in the United States and Canada, and visiting family and friends. Over the last two years they covered the entire United States, much of western Canada and the entire U.S. coast line. Their last trip ended in the Tetons, which was a favorite of Rae Ellen's, along with the beautiful Oregon Coast where they spent much of their time when they were "home."
Rae Ellen and Lyn were blessed with living in the Mennonite Village since 2004. Rae Ellen had many friends and enjoyed all of the wonderful benefits of living in such a remarkable loving community.


A dozen miles east of John and Gilert's 1891 claims, John R. Miller cash-claimed 160 acres in sections 5 and 6, 4N 46W in 1915.
