Thomas W. Martin, Bryant
Thomas cash-claimed a quarter in section 7, 5N 48W in 1889. This was next to Charles N. Kimball's 1889 claim
There's a Thomas W. Martin in 1900 Denver,
a day laborer born Feb 1852 in Canada,
married twenty years to Almira J. August 1861 Ohio, with William Oct 1880 and Viola M. May 1883, both born in Nebraska.
Almira's father Christian W. Glaze died, per one tree, in Holt County, Nebraska October 12, 18888. H wife Margaret died August 30, 1870 in Nebraska.
Thomas and Elmyra J. were farming in Cass County, Nebraska in 1880.
December 1904 Park County, Colorado "Mr. Will Martin, son of
Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Martin, of the Capital J hotel, Alma,
is visiting his parents through the holidays. Mr. Martin is a member of the
craft representing the Art Preservative of all Arts, and is as well a
prominent young newspaper man of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Martin of Alma, celebrated the silver
anniversary of their wedding, Christmas day. There were a score or
more of invited guests, who fared sumptuously. The host and hostess
received the congratulations of their guests, and Mrs. Martin a large
number of nice presents, all useful and appropriate to the occasion."
July 1907 "Mrs. F. L. Hayes, of Council Bluffs, Iowa,
is visiting her sister, Mrs. T. W. Martin of the American hotel, Alma.
Mrs. Hayes is accompanied by Mrs. C. F. Jones and Mrs. Baker,
also of Council Bluffs. The ladies will spend two weeks at Alma,
up among the clouds."
August 1907 "Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Jones, who had been visiting
Mrs. T. W. Martin from Council Bluffs, Iowa, returned home Wednesday."
"Mrs. Hayes, who has been visiting Mrs. T. W. Martin,
from Council Bluffs, Iowa, left for home the latter part of last week."
This is Margaret Alice Glaze, wife of banker Friend L. Hays 1865-1953.
She was born in Kentucky, marrying F.L. Hays in Oakland,
Iowa on October 19, 1887,
and they had Charlie Hays in Council Bluffs on April 17, 1896.
1908 Fairplay, Colorado "Hotelman and Justice
Thomas Martin has again concluded to move to Oklahoma."
1909 "Thomas Martin was up Wednesday, and announced to
his friends that he and Mrs. Martin are now on the old
Walsh ranch above Hartsel, and have
prepared to make their ranch
headquarters for duck hunters during the
coming season. Mrs. Martin is famed for
her good cooking, they have plenty of
barn room and feed for horses
and the ranch is at the best huntinh
grounds."
They're in Park County, Colorado in 1910, operating a hotel, and in Colorado Springs in 1920 - Thomas a carpenter.
February 1912 "Mrs. T. W. Martin of Hartsel, has fresh eggs for sale at 35c dozen."
March 1913 " Work started on the dam at Antero Monday the 24,
with a force of twelve men and eight teams. T. W. Martin has the contract
of boarding the men, while Mrs. Martin will run the Hotel Martin at
Hartsel. More men will be put on in the near future."
June 1913 "T. W. Martin is carrying the mail from Garo to Hartsel and
from Hartsel to Garo daily except Sundays with automobile line for
passenger accommodations for passengers.
We thought Hartsel was off
the map until the above item came to us. Now let us hear from you,
and stop making your friends worry."
October 1914 "T. W. Martin caught a three-pound rainbow trout Sunday,
measuring 14 inches long."
" Mrs. T. W. Martin motored to Alma Tuesday and
took in the Democratic social and dance at Fairplay in the evening."
December 1914 "Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Martin spent Christmas with their daughter in Colorado Springs."
1915 Fairplay "Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Martin are comfortably settled in the Carruthers home."
December 1915 "A letter from Mrs. T. W. Martin states that they have
taken the Twin Peaks hotel at Twin Lakes and are doing fine."
1918 Leadville "Mrs. T. W. Martin, formerly of Twin Lakes who is
now resident at Fairplay in Park county, was registered last night at the
Vendome hotel."
Thomas 1852-1922 is buried in Colorado
Springs # 34992174. He's buried in section 62, lot 84, northeast space.
One tree said Almira died in San Diego in 1932.
WILLIAM
William H. Martin, 29, married Julia Clarke on Nov 14, 1909 in Canadian County, Oklahoma.
They're in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1920,
William a printer, Julia 34 born in Texas, and Anna J. 3 born in Colorado.
In 1930 they're in San Diego, California, William 47, Julia A> 44, Anna J. 13 born in Colorado, Celia M. 9 in New Mexico, Julia M. 4 in California, and Julia's mother Anna Clarke, widowed, 74, born in Tennessee.
William H. Martin, born October 3, 1880, mother's maiden name Glaze, died August 28, 1967
in San Diego County.
Julia, born June 4, 1885 in Texas, died in San Diego County Dec 10, 1972.
VIOLA
Viola is in Colorado Springs in 1910, 26, married to William Samson, 32, wtih Dale 7 and Viola 5.
"Walter W. Samson, formerly of Park County passed in Colorado Springs on December 27, 1912, of pneumonia.
He was 34 years old and a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Martin of Hartsel.
He was well known in Park County, having worked for Samuel Hartsel for several years.
Besides his widow, he left three children, one eight and one six years old and a baby eight months old."
Viola Maud Samson,31, married Carl Johannas Christian in Pueblo on Sept 19, 1914.
They're in Colorado Spring in 1920, Carl J. 35, marude V. 36, Evelyn M. 4. William D. Samson is 16, Vesta V. 14, and Walter Roy 8.
Viola Christian, born may 18, 1883, died April 8, 1944 in San Joaquin Couty, mother Glaze, father Martin.
She's buried in Manteca, California # 137484981, father Thomas Martin, mother Ella Glaze.
