William F. Clawson, Yuma



One tree said his mother Elizabeth F. (Foster) Clawson died in 1870.
In 1850 DeKalb County Tennessee, Elizabeth is 15, with "Silmon" 41 and Matilda 39. William J. is 17,k Edy W. 12, Mary 10, Joel E. 7, Tilma L. 4,and Matilda 1.

Elizabeth Foster and Benjamin Clawson married in Lawrence County, Arkansas on Feb 5, 1856.

In 1860 Lawrence County, Arkansas, Ben C. and Elizabeth Clawson born in Tennessee, are both 25, with Wm. F. 4 and Sarah A.M. 2, both born in Arkansas.

In 1870 Madison County, Illinois, William 14 and Ben H. 6 are living with J. E. 28 and Eliza Foster, 26 and their daughter Eda, ten months.

In 1880 Miami County, Kansas, "Henry" is a farm laborer, 19, for William Kraunsick a29 and Agnes 30.

Barbara Dommershousen, 18, daughter of Eliza Dommerhousen, married William F. Clawson on November 22, 1884 in Madison County, Illinois.

In 1885, W.F. Clawson is farming in Cass County, Nebraska, 21, born in Arkansas.


In Edwardsville, Illinois in 1900, William Clawson August 1854 Arkansas and Barbara Sept 1869 Illinois are farming. Henry was born November 1888 in Missouri, James January 1891 in Missouri, William Feb 1894 in Illinois, Benjamin Sept 1895 in Illinois, and May L. May 1898 Illinois.

Barbara is a patient in the Jacksonville State Hospital, Morgan County, Illinois, 38.
In 1910 Yuma County, William is farming, 53, married 26 years. Henry S. is 22, born in Missouri, a laborer.

WILLIAM

In 1910 William, 16, is a farm laborer for Isaac W. and Lulu M. Arbuchnot in Madison County, Illinois.

William registered for WWI in Burleigh County, North Dakota, born April 1, 1894 at Edwardsville, Illinois, working for J. T. Little on a farm near Regan.

In 1930 Madison County, Illinois, William is a janitor in the post office, 36, with Anna 31, Earl 8, Harold 7, Edna 3, and Olin 1, all six born in Illinois.

William Hollard Clawson, born April 1, 1894 at Edwardsville, died in the VA hospital in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on November 4, 1953, to be buried in Edwardsville. He was a janitor at the post office.
He's buried in Edwardsville # 102523185.
" William Hollard Clawson, 59, of 514 Cass avenue died of a heart ailment Wednesday at 4:35 a.m. in Veterans hospital, Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He was born April 1, 1894, in Edwardsville to the late Filmore and Barbara Clawson. Mr. Clawson was orphaned at an early age and the Hollard family of Alton took him to raise. On Dec. 8, 1919, he was married to Miss Anna Mensching in Alton and she survives. He lived in Alton when he was a younger man and after his marriage, he and his wife moved to Edwardsville where he had been a resident for the past 35 years. He had served as custodian for the U.S. Post Office in Edwardsville for 28 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Earl Edward, Olin Udell and Raymond Fredrick, all of Edwardsville and Harold William of Lincoln Park, Mich.; one daughter Mrs. Fred (Edna) Bast of Edwardsville; one brother, Ben C. Ray of Petersburg, Tex.; one sister Mrs. Irby (Clara May) Webb of Beckley, W.Va.; one foster brother, Alfred Hollard of Michigan; five foster sisters, the Misses Celia Hollard, Ida Hollard, Anna Hollard, all of Alton, Mrs. Florence Gray of Louisville, Ky., and Miss Sophie Hollard of Michigan and four grandchildren, the youngest of whom was born only four and one-half hours preceding her grandfather's death. Mr. Clawson was a member of American Legion Post 199 of Edwardsville. A veteran of World War I, he served overseas in France in the Battle of Meuse, Battle of Argonne and the Battle of Troyon."

Olin 1929-1999 is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Edwardsville # 125104793, with Cecelia R. born August 20, 1930.

William Holland Clawson and Anna K,. Menching had Harold William Clawson in Edwardsville, who on June 1, 1946, age 23, married Jane Lorraine Ayote in Allen Park, Michigan.

In 1910 "Bennie Ray" is in Chariton County, Missouri, 13, with George W. Ray 34 an Eliza C. 56.

Ben C. Ray is farming in Hale County, Texas in 1920, 23, with Addie 22 and George C. 1.

In 1930 Hale COunty, Ben 33, and Addie 32 have George 11, Clara C. 9, Lyle M. 6, and Ronald E. 2.

In 1940 Ben, Addie, Lyle, and Ronald are living in Hale County with Dan C. Bayley, 75.

Benjamin Clawson Ray, a furniture salesman born May 22, 1897 at Edwardsville, died in Amarillo, Texas on November 5, 1964, to be buried in Fairview cemetery, Albuquerque.
FindaGrave # 52896751 has him with Addie Rosamond (Baylery) Ray 1898-1975.

George Cheston Ray 1918-1991 is buried in Santa Fe, New Mexico # 17580194., Master Sergeant Air Force.

Clara Caroline Young 1920-2016 is buried in Santa Fe National # 167277593, with Roy M. Young 1921-2002

Lyle Marion Ray 1923-2012 is buried in Amarillo # 89610867.
"Lyle M. Ray, 88, of Amarillo died Wednesday, April 25, 2012.
Lyle was born Oct. 15, 1923, on the family farm at Happy Union to Ben and Addie Ray. On Dec. 8, 1942, Lyle married the love of his life, Orma Jones, of Portland, Ore., in Vancouver, Wash. When they began life their together, Lyle was an electrical supervisor in the Vancouver Shipyards building Liberty Ships for the Navy.
After the end of World War II, Lyle and Orma moved to Amarillo, where he was employed as the manager of Crain Electric Company. In 1964, Lyle started his own electrical contracting business, Ray Electric Company, which continues to be a vital part of our community. At one time during his career, Lyle served as president of the National Electrical Contractors Association, Panhandle Chapter.
Lyle and Orma have been faithful members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Amarillo for more than 57 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Ronald Ray.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years; a sister, Clara Young of Boulder, Colo.; three sons, Jerry Ray and wife Doneice, Michael Ray and wife Janice and David Ray and wife Diane, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. "

Ronald Eugene Ray 1928-1993 is buried in Panama City, Florida # 31901023.

MAY

In 1910 Raleigh County, West Virginia, Clara May, 10, is the adopted daughter of William C. Robinson 39 and Minnie S. 35.

May L. Clawson born May 20, 1899, died in Beckley, raleigh County, West Virginia on September 1979.
She's buried in Beckley # 189498927, with spouse Irby E. Webb 1894--1981.

HENRY

Squire Henry Clawson claimed two quarters in section 12, 2N 47W in 1913.

Squire "Henery" Clawson registered for WWII in Yuma, address of Wages Route - so he lived northest of Yuma, born Nov 12, 1887 at Fulton, Missouri, with Ben J. Clawson as his refereence.

In 1920 Yuma County, William F. is farming, 64, with Squire Henry 33.

Henry is farming in 1930 Yuma County, with a hired hand Sherman Stallworth, 32.

Henry is farming alone in Yuma County, 52.
