Frank and Mary (Collins) Carlson, Eckley


MARY'S FAMILY

In 1900 Richardson County, Nebraska, John Collins is 57, Francis 51, Emma 27, Charles 25, Daisy 19, Mary Sept 1882, all born in Indiana, Edith is 12, Maggie 10, Ernest 9, and Kate 7 all born in Nebraska.
John's mother Rebecca 78 is widowed, born in Indiana.

Daisy F. Draper 1880-1969 is buried in Sacramento County, California # 35174455.
Frances Edith Herbaugh 1887-1961 is buried in Thedford, Nebraska # 59097690.

(Francis R. Collins is widowed in 1930 Kingfisher, Oklahoma, 81, with children William E. 60, Emma B. 57, Charles J. 55, and Maggie P. 40. Her grandson Calvin L. Waggener, 22, born in Kansas, is also with her.)

John Henry Collins 1842-1927 is buried in Kingfisher County # 67638347, with Frances R. 1848-1936 # 122824471.


FRANK

July 1905 Eckley "Carl Carlson, who has been west section foreman for the past five months, left Wednesday evening for Denver."

August 2, 1907 "Frank Carlson has gone to Sweetwater, Neb., where he will be married to Miss Mary Collins formerly of Eckley. After taking a honeymoon trip to the east he will return to McCook where he takes charge of an extra gang."

February 1907 Eckley "C. Carlson, foreman of the west Eckley section, has fully recovered from what threatened to be a severe attack of la grippe."

March 1907 "Frank Carlson sprung the first straw hat of the season on the unsuspecting public, but the frosty wind from the north west soon drove it back on the peg beside the stove. Charlie was wearing a wig this morning and upon investigation we found that he crowded the season to the extent of having his head shaved so it would match his straw hat, and he couldn't remedy the deficiency as easily as he could change hats."

June 1907 Eckley news "Frank Carlson is on the sick list."
"C. Carlson has been promoted from Eckley to Akron as yard foreman."

FRANK AND MARY

August 9, 1907 "Marriage license was issued to Frank Carlson of Eckley, and Mary Collins of Sweetwater, Nebraska, the latter part of last week. The two were married by Rev. O. S. Gard of the M. E. Church last Sunday afternoon."

June 19, 1908 "Dr. Bilsborrow reports the arrival of a boy baby at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carlson of Eckley early Wednesday morning."

1908 Eckley "Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carlson left this week for several weeks visit to her parents at Sweetwater, Nebraska."
"John Glantz and Ray Chapin are batching in the section house while Mr. and Mrs. Carlson are away. John says he would like to find a cook."

Eckley news, February 1909 "Charlie, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carlson, is seriously ill at this writing."
"Miss Katie Collins returned to her home at Sweetwater, Neb., Monday after visiting several weeks with her sister, Mrs. Frank Carlson."

March 1909 "Ernest Collins returned to Sweetwater, Nebraska after spending several weeks with his sister, Mrs. Frank Carlson."
March 1909 "Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carlson were called to the home of William Burk at Holyoke last Friday on account of the illness of Mrs. Burk."
(In 1910 Phillips County, Charles F. Burk is 28, Mabel 24, Loyd F. 3, and W. Lee 2, all four born in Missouri."
Mable (Bray) Burke 1885-1949 is buried in Yuma # 48448575, with Charles Franklin Burke 1881-1968 buried in Gentry County, Missouri.


April 1909 "F. Carlson who has been section foreman for several years, has been transferred to a like position at Trenton, Nebraska. This is a promotion in a small degree for Frank. Mr. and Mrs. Carlson have been of our best class of citizens and will be a loss in our community. We heartily recommend them to the citizens of Trenton for what is Eckley's loss is Trenton's gain."

May 1909 "Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carlson left Friday for Trenton, Neb., where he takes charge of a section. Eckley regrets very much to lose them as they were very popular in society."

In 1910 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, Frank is 28, born in Sweden, Mary 26 in Indiana. Charles 1 and Mertel three months were born in Nebraska, per this record.

In 1920 Broken Bow, Nebraska, Frank is a road master for the CB&Q railroad, immigrating in 1889, naturalized in 1902. Mary is 38, Charlie 11 ws born in Colorady, Myrlte 9 in Nebraska.

In 1930 Frank, still a road master, Mary, and Charles a washing machine salesman, are in Broken Bow, Mary 1882-1963 # 39540331 and Frank Oscar Carlson 1879-1962 # 39540325 are buried in Broken Bow.

Charles Rallph Carlson and Doris Vera Hinton married in Denver on July 28, 1935.

In 1940 Alliance, Nebraska, C. R. Carlson is a brakeman 31, with Doris V. 29 born in Nebraska.

CHARLIE

March 1907 Eckley "Charlie Carlson received aboutn half car load of furniture from Chicago . Wednesday . Now we know there is something in the wind."

September 1907 "Charlie Carlson is making a record for killing rattlesnakes and is doing it without the aid of anything to kill the poison."

"Charlie Carlson has decided to purchase a farm in this vicinity - have not learned the lady's name as yet."

In 1934 the Yuma County directory has "Carlson Carl f 35-3N-48"
This would be a few miles northwest of Yuma. This is Carl E. and Laura (Pine) Carlson, married in 1915 at her parents' home near Dodge City in 1915. They farmed in the Yuma community.
