Sam L. Bird, Bryant


In 1870 Fulton County, Illinois, Isaac Bird is farming, 45, Ellen 38, Samuel 15, and Henry 11.

In 1880 Shelby County, Iowa, Samuel Bird is farming, 23, Mary 23, Anna 3 and Elizabeth 2.

Sam is a bartender in 1900 Crawford County, Iowa, born Dec 1854, married 24 years to Mary born August 1854, both in Illinois. Lizzie D. Aug 1879 and Mary E. Feb 1888 were both born in Iowa.

April 1907 Yuma, Colorado "John and Sam Bird, who arrived a short time ago from Manilla, Iowa, are building on their farms north of town."

October 1908 "Mr. Bird sr. accompanied Mrs. John Bird and Mrs. Dowler and family to Sterling on a visit this week. "

January 1909 "Sam Bird Sr. and daughter, Nellie, and Mrs. J. Bird drove over to Sterling on Friday; Sam jr. accompanied them home Sunday."

In 1910 Yuma County, Samuel L. is widowed, 55, born in Illinois, with son John 29 and Lillie B. 23, married three years, both born in Iowa. Nellie is 1, born in Colorado.

Next household is Isaac S. Bird 24, born in Iowa.

In 1917 Samuel L. Bird proved up a quarter in section 27.

ANNIE

Annie, 19, married Horatio Longton on September 26, 1894 in Shelby County.

Horatio is in Divide County, North Dakota in 1910, a laborer, 37, married to Sarah, 41 born in Iowa.

Anna is in Gregory County, South Dakota in 1910, her second marriage, 32, married to John Wright 42, born in Wisconsin, his first marriage.

She might be the Anna I. Wright 1878-1937 buried in Gregory County # 50467000.


MARY

Mary E. Bird, 18, and Charley F. Flaugh, 28 married on May 8, 1904 in Shelby County, Iowa.

In 1910 Logan County, Colorado, Charles is a real estate agent, 32, with "Nellie" 25, both born in Iowa. Donald 5 was born in Nebraska, Merle 2 in Colorado.

Charles F. Flaugh and Nellie Bird had Marjorie Suzanne on December 11, 1911 in Sterling, Colorado dying May 22, 2004 as Pierce.

In 1920 Cedar County, Nebraska, Charles is 42, no occupation, living with brother Jessie 52. Merle C. is 13, Marjorie 9.

August 1915 the Yuma County Commissioners met, all members present. The application for aid for Mrs. Nellie Flaugh was taken up by the board.

In 1916, the Yuma County commissioners "The sum of $25 was received from Samuel Bird to repay the county for expense caused in behalf of Nellie Flaugh."

Nellie is in Denver in 1920, married but no spouse, 30, with Frank E. 4. She's a housekeeper for Edgar Crebo, 43.

In 1930 Cedar County, Nebraska, Charles is farming, married but no spouse, with Marjorie 19 and Frank 13 born in Iowa.

Nellie is in the Colorado state hospital in Pueblo in 1930, 45, divorced.

Her furneral notice is in the Pueblo Chieftain on April 20, 1935.


Charles is buried in Cedar County, Nebraska 1875-1966 # 30909032.

So is Donald 1905-1914.

Marjorie is buried in Whittier, California # 157103062.

January 1930

1933 Omaha "Prosecution of Merle Flaugh and Melvin Skelton, Fort Crook soldiers bound over in police court with Mrs. Jean Baker of Fort Crook for fleeing the scene of a fatal motor accident, will be by military court martial. Fort Crook officers secured release of the men from District Judge Thomsen and announced they will stand trial before a military tribunal. They were held after admttting they had told Mrs. Baker to "drive on," after she had run down and fatally injured Joseph D. Hlavka, 82, on a South Omaha street."

1952 "Merle Flaugh of Omaha, Nebraska has been visiting this week with his uncle, Sam Bird, and family."

Merle C. Flaugh, 86, died January 3, 1994 in Spokane, Washington, # 177779393.

Frank, born Sept 1, 1915 in Iowa, died February 8, 1989 in Fresno County, California.
FindaGrave # 83949909 says "Husband of Waynoka Dowdy Craig Flaugh Father of Frank Jr. and Heather Flaugh Grandfather to several children."

JOHN

John H. Bird, 28, born in Iowa to S.L. Bird and M.M. Mitchell, married Lilly B. Stillwell on March 18, 1907 in Carroll County, Iowa. Lilly was 21, born in Irwin Iowa to Lemuel Stillwell and Clementine Barton.

John H. Bird proved up a quarter in section 22, 5N 48W in 1914.

John died in Yuma County 1880-1916 and is buried in Shelby County # 102779553.

April 14, 1916 Yuma Pioneer "h/o Lillie Stillwell, f/o Nellie Smith, Mary C. Hiatt, Garnette Childs, John H. Jr. etc. brother of Lizzie D., Anna Prudy Wright, Lizzie Miller, etc. s/o Samuel L. Bird & Mary E. Mitchell plus great grandson of Thomas Mitchell & Lucinda E. Hendricks. "

March 21, 1913 "Dr. Crawford reports the arrival of a baby girl at the home of John Bird, north of town."

Lillie Bird is widowed in 1920 Shelby County, Iowa, with Nellie 11, Mary C. 9, Garnett 6, and Johnnie 3.

In 1940 Shelby County, Lily is widowed, 54, with daughter Clementine Hiatt, 28, and her husband Willie M. 26 born in Iowa.

Lillie 1886-1963 is buried in Shelby County 3 102777347.

Nellie Bird, 25, born at Yuma, married Earl Smith on September 29, 1928 in Denison Iowa.

They had John Robert Smith on May 17, 1930, who died six months later.

Earl Ernest Smith is buried in Omaha, Nebraska...# 73053504.

Ellen Marie Jenson 1936-2007 is buried in Shelby County, with Robert Eugene Jenson.

SAMUEL I.

Samuel I. Bird proved up a quarter in section 27, 5N 48W in 1913.

Kathryn Mahoney proved up a quarter in section 22, 5N 48W in 1913.

"Claimant names as witnesses; Ola Hanson, John H. Bird and Samuel I. Bird, all three of Bryant, Colorado, and Charles Arnold, of Yuma, Colorado.

Hattie Hanson married Sam Byrd in Yuma County on May 1, 1918, and is buried in Yuma. Samuel I. Bird died in 1964.

October 15, 1964

October 1957 "Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bird and Mrs. Hanson received word that a cousin of Mrs. Bird's, John Linehan of Chicago had passed away. Mr. Liehan had visited several times at the Bird and Hanson homes. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bird left from Sterling for Chicago to attend the funera. Lester's parents took them to Sterling to board the train."

August 1958 Harlan, Iowa "Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bird of Yuma, Colo., spent Saturday and until Sunday morning visiting Mrs. Myrtle Mitchell."

Samuel is buried in Yuma 1885-1964 # 48448380.
October 1964 Yuma Pioneer.
