John C. Lagrange, Brownsville
In 1870 Dekalb County, Illinois John, 13, is the only child of John 39 and Elizabeth LaGrange. John J. LaGrange and Elizabeth B. Overton had married January 11, 1855 in De Kalb County.
In 1882 Cass County, Nebraska J.C. LaGrange, 52, born in New York, is a merchant. and J.C 25 Illinois is also a merchant.
In 1885 Cass County John LaGrange 54 and Elizabeth 56 have John 27 and his wife Frances 29, with Earl 1year old.

The Avoca cemetery has a stone "John J. LaGrange died Sept 23, 1887 aged 52 Ys 7 Ms and 11 Ds7" 56843913.
John was appointed postmaster at Avoca, Colorado June 10, 1889 - Post office that operated from 1889 to 1891 southwest of Heartstrong. According to a 1898 map the Avoca community population was 20- So almost certainly this Avoca was named after the Nebraska town.

John cash-claimed a quarter in 2, 2S 47W in 1891.
1893 "I consider Chamberlain's Cough Remedy a specific for croup.....J.J. LaGrange, druggist, Avoca, Neb. 50 cent bottles for sale by (various drug stores in Nebraska)."
In 1900 Chicago "Jessie C" Lagrange, born April 1860 in Illinois, married to Francis May 1867 Illinois. They have Earl , Nov 1884, Marie N. Jan 1887, and John J. Feb 1888, all three Nebraska.
He might be the John C. LaGrange in 1910 Chicago, a commercial traveler, 51, married thirty years to Francis, 53, both born in Illinois. She's had three children, all living. Marie, 23, born in Nebraska, is a clerk in a mail order house.
In 1920 and 1930 John and Frances are in Polk County, Florida - no occupation
