1900 Colorado Springs James born April 1868 in Missouri, is a railroad laborer.
Sarah M – July 1875 Kentucky – married 8 years. four children of which three are living.
Nellie July 1893, Alta Arril 1894, Earnest June 1898 – all Kansas.

They’re back in Pratt Kansas in 1910.  James is doing odd jobs, Nellie is not with them, and they’ve added Viola,
James, and Elsie, all born in Kansas.

They’re in Norton Kansas in 1915 -

One tree says Elmer and Alberta married January 5, 1893 in Marshall County Kansas, and had Lelia May September 9 1897, Gladys Alta October 7, 1900, Stella A August 23 1908, Rowena Dorothy December 7, 1911, Archie Coltis February 14 1914, and Irene E 1916

 

In 1900 Marshall County Kansas Elmer RUMBLE 33 is married to "Bertie" 26.  They have Lila M. 2, and are living with his brother Absolam and his mother Sarah Rumble 72.

In 1910 Norton County, Kansas is an Elmer Runkle 44, Ellen A. M. Runkle 36.  They have Lelia M. 12, Gladys E. 8 and Stella E.C. 1.

Elmer must have left - the 1920 census of Norton County has him divorced, living with daughter M. Lelia Boatman.  In 1930 he's a farm laborer in Joes, living alone.  Elmer's stone in the Yuma Cemetery has Born October 8, 1888 - Died January 28, 1937.

Alberta homesteaded two quarters in 3S 47W in 1921 - a very late claim. 

She was in the Center Precinct in 1920, widowed, 46.  With her are Stella 11, Rowena 8, Archie 5, and Irene 4, all kids born in Kansas.

She married James F. Galey in Brighton September 27, 1928.

James married Della Dorsey in Denver January 21, 1938

James married Lydia An Keefer in Edgewater May 1, 1939.

1940 Denver – James Galey is 71, born Missouri – was in Yuma in 1935. 
 
living with 49-year old wife Anna and stepchildren 14 and 11.

James Galey had a probate record in Denver in 1944, so he probably died shortly before.

Her son Archie Runkle died on Okinawa in 1945.

Daughter Irene Runkle married Edwin Peters - they're in the 1940 Denver census.

Mrs. Alberta Runkle passed away at Colorado General Hospital in Denver last Saturday, January 23 at the age of 80 years.

Funeral service was conducted by Rev. F.B. Bigelow from the Ritchey Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 27 and burial was made in the Yuma Cemetery.

Alberta Modora Engler was born in Winfield, Iowa on July 8, 1873 and passed away January 23, 1954 at a Denver hospital at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 15 days. She was married to Elmer Runkle at Marysville, Kansas in 1893. To them were born eight children, four of whom preceded her in death. One of them was a son, Archie C. Runkle, who was killed in action on the island of Okinawa in World War II. Mr. Runkle also passed away a number of years ago. In 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Runkle and their family came to Colorado and homesteaded 27 miles south of Yuma. In later years she made her home in Yuma, until she moved to Eckley two years ago. She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Lelia Boatman, Mrs. Gladys Bailey, Mrs. Rowena Alexander and Mrs. Irene Peters, all of Denver and 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, George Engler of Grants Pass, Oregon and Oliver Engler of Newton, Kansas and a sister, Frances Engler, also of Newton.
