In 1880 Adams County, Joseph is 49, Mary 50, Josie 18, Peter 16, Hector 13, Grant 10, and Alfred 7.

In 1885 Franklin County, Nebraska, Frank Prather is 31, Josie 22, Elmer 3.
In 1895 Rawlins County, Kansas, Frances C. is 40, Josie E. 33, Elmer D. 1 3, aand "Eldie" 3.
In 1900 Rawlins County, Kansas, Francis C. Prather, born March 1854 in IOwa, married 19 years to Josie E. May 1862 Iowa, have Elmer S. Aug 1881 Iowa and Eddie May 1891 Kansas.
May 16, 1906 - Corning Iowa " F. C. Prather, of Cornell, Nebraska, has been visiting the past week with his brother, C. V. Prather, and family. Although Mr. Prather's postoffice is Cornell, Nebraska, he lives just over the line in Kansas, where he owns a farm."
November 26, 1909 "Miss Jennie Prather was in the city Saturday making arrangements for the construction of a nice home on her claim/"
In 1910 Yuma County, Josie is farming alone, 48, born in Iowa, father born in Massachusetts, mother in Pennsylvania.
Josie proved up two quarters in 22 and 27, 1S 47W, in 1916, next to Fred Felker.
January 1917 - Wanted - an all-round ranch hand for small ranch. Pay good wages. Steady, allyear job. Inquire at this office of Mrs. Josie E. Prather.
August 1917 "Peter and Perry Anderson bought fifteen quarter-sections - 2,400 acres - known as the Bronte ranch, of Mrs. Elizabeth Prather last week. The consideration was $19,200. The land is located fifteen miles southeast of Yuma."
The same issue "Mrs. Elizabeth Prather went to Trenton, Nebraska, Thursday of last week to visit her son and family."

On November 16, the sale advertisement was a full-page advertisement in the Pioneer.
October 4, 1918 "Good milch cow for sale - Mrs. E. Prather, north of the track."
November 1, 1918 "Furnished rooms for rent - Mrs. E. Prather, northeast of depot."
November 8, 1918 "Mrs. Josie Prather returned on the noon train Monday from a visit with relatives at Benkleman, Nebraska."

July 1919 "Misses Gladys and Carrie Holbrook of Corning, Iowa are guests at the home of their aunt, Mrs. Josie Prather."
Miss Elizabeth Thomas, of Corning Iowa, is a guest at the home of Mrs. Josie Prather."
Miss Grace Cleveland, who had been visiting with Mrs. Josie Prather for a few days, left for her home at Trenton, Nebraska last Friday.

In September 1919 Elmer came in second in the bicycle race at the Yuma County Fair. But Elmer "proved he was a better auto driver than a peddler as he easily beat O.M. Riddle in the auto race.



October 2, 1919 "Mrs. Josie Prather returned....reports that Mr. Prather is getting along remarkably well, considering the terrible injuries he received."

April 1920 "Am having my block in Geer's Addition divided into lots, which I will sell at reasonable prices. Only one block northeast of depot - Mrs. Josie Prather."

February 16, 1922 "Mrs. E. S. Prather and her mother Mrs. M. Carlson left on the afternoon train Tuesday, bound for Stratton, Nebrasks to visit with relatives and friends for a few weeks."

Frances Columbus Prather 1854-1923 is buried in Hitchcock County, Nebraska, per # 68196181.
October 9, 1924 "Mrs. Josie Prather left on the afternoon train Monday, bound for Stratton, Nebraska, in which city she expects to visit at the home of her son during the next few weeks."
November 1, 1924 "Mrs. J. Roemmich, who had been visiting with Mrs. Josie E. Prather, returned to her home at Benkelman, Nebraska, on the afternoon train Friday."
July 23, 1925 "Mrs. Josie Prather left on the noon train Friday, bound for Yellowstone Park and points in Canada."

In 1930 Josephine is widowed, living on North Albany in Yuma.

June 30, 1932 "Mrs. Josie Prather and her guest, Mrs. John Burton, of Indiana, drove down to the Kirk neighborhood the latter part of the week to loook at some land belonging to the latter. They also visited at the Eldie Prather home."

December 28, 1933 "Velma and Harry Prather accompanied their grandmother, Mrs. Josie Prather, to Hastings, Nebraska, last week where she was called by the death of her brother."
This would be John Q. Holbrook 1855-1933.


ELMER
In 1880 Appanoose County, Iowa, Adolph Carlson is 35, born in Sweden, Minerva 25 Iowa. Miriam Carlson is 3.
In 1885 Appanoose County, Adolph and Minerva have "Marion" 7 and Francis 4.
In 1910 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, A. L. Carlson is 74, Minerva 54 - Sshe's had two kids, both living.

In 1910 Dundy County, Nebraska, Elmer is a blacksmith, 28, Mamie 30.

In 1930 on north Main Street in Yuma, Elmer Prather is 47, "Mammie" 50, , both born in Iowa. Minerva Carlson,74, widowed, Mamie's mother is with them.

Mrs Elmer S. Prather died at the family home in Yuma at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, aged 53 years, 1 month, and 13 days. Funeral services were held Sunday from the local Presbyterian church Rev. Thomas Hayes, pastor of the Nazarene church, officiating and the interment was at the Yuma cemetery.
Nannie [Mamie] A. Prather was born at Monton, Iowa March 6, 1877. At the age of 5 years she moved with her parents to Jefferson county, Iowa, where she resided for eight years. In the year 1912 she moved from there to Colorado Springs, in which city she was united in marriage to Elmer S. Prather. After living in that city for a short time, Mr. and Mrs. Prather moved to Western Nebraska where they remained until 1919, when they moved to Yuma and had resided there since that time, until death called the wife. She leaves to mourn her loss her loving husband, her mother, one brother, F. D. Carlson of Stratton, Nebraska, and many other relatives and a host of friends.

September 24, 1931 "Macie Nelson, a cousin of E.S. Prather and who had been in Yuma and Vicinity for some time, left for Englewood (sic) California, last Thursday to visit her sister."
August 18, 1932 "Elmer Prather, who has a garage in Yuma, is panning gold along Clear Creek, near Idaho Springs."
March 30, 1933 "Velma Prather accompanied her Uncle Elmer to his home near Peyton, Colorado, Sunday for a week's visit. Elmer drove a new Ford home which he purchased while here."

January 11, 1940 "Mrs. Elmer Prather left on the train Monday for Colorado Springs after being here to attend the funeral services for ther mother, Mrs. William Mulder."
In 1940 Elmer is in El Paso County, Colorado, 55, married to Hattie W. 48, with Dorothy, 12 born in California, and Elmer S. 8.
(Hattie was widowed in 1930 Yuma, with Harman L. 11, Margaret 9, Bettie 7, and Dorothy 2.
In 1920 Yuma County, township 3North, Hattie is married to Leslie Henry, with Leslie 1 and Margaret two months.
Elmer Sidnew Prather registered for WWII in Denver, working for the Colorado Gear Company.

ELDIE

In 1920 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, Eldie H. and Ada R. Prather are both 28 born in Kansas. Truman R. is 5, Harry F. 3, Velda 1, and Robert G. three mohts, all kids born in Nebraska. Francis C. 65, divorced is with them.
Eldie and Ada are in Rawlins County, Kansas in 1930, doing odd jobs. Truman is 15, Harry 12, Velma 12, Robert 10, Hazel 8, Lloyd 6, Leo and Leota 4, and Ray is 1.

July 23, 1931 In 1940 Eldie and Ada are farming near Vernon Colorado, with Robert G. 20, Lloyd 17, Leo and Leota 14, Ray 11.
March 7, 1935 "Lloyd Stevens and family of Heartstrong moved to the place vacated by the E.H. Prather family, the latter family moving to the Fred Ream place near the Base Line."

Funeral services for Eldie H. Prather will be held today, Thursday at 3:00 p..m. in the Yuma Presbyterian Church. Interment will be made in the Yuma Cemetery with Morris mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Eldie Harry Prather was born at Atwood, Kansas on May 16, 1891 to Frances and Josie E. Prather. He departed this life at the Yuma Community Hospital on May 17, 1965 at the age of 74 years and one day.
He grew to manhood in Kansas and Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Ada Ruth Makings on July 30, 1913 and to this union nine children, were born. The family moved go Colorado in 1930 and he spent the remainder of his life in and around Yuma.
Eldie and Ada celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1963.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Lloyd Dean in 1944, and his brother Elmer.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Ada, his children, Truman of Yuma, Harry of Arvada, Velma Brant of Orlando, Florida, Robert, Harry, Hazel Morris and Leota Morris of Yuma, Leo of Eckley, and Ray of Denver, 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ada Prather, a long time resident of the Yuma community, died Saturday in the Yuma hospital.
The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Yuma Methodist Church with Reverend Frank Harvey officiating. Morris Spellman Mortuary had charge of arrangements. Burial was made beside her husband, Eldie, in the Yuma Cemetery.
Ada Ruth Makings, daughter of Charles and Anne Makings, was born April 13, 1891, near Atwood, Kansas, and passed away at the Yuma Community Hospital September 9, 1967 at the age of 76 years, 4 months, and 17 days. She was baptized as a child and grew to womanhood in Nebraska and Kansas.
She was united in marriage to Eldie H. Prather, July 30, 1913 and to this union nine children were born. The family moved to Yuma County n 1930 and she lived the remainder of her life in and around Yuma. She made her home at the Park View Nursing Center for the past two years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldie in May 1965; one son, Lloyd Dean in 1944; her sisters; parents; five brothers; and two [missing words here].
She leaves to mourn her passing her sons Truman of Yuma, Harry of Arvada, Robert of Yuma, Leo of Eckley, and Ray of Denver; her daughters, Velma Brant of Orlando, Florida, Hazel Morris and Leota Morris of Yuma; two sisters, Mrs. Vern Pennell of Trenton, Nebraska and Mrs. Vern Heramza of Colby, Kansas; 35 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Sylvester had lived in the Pleasant Valley community northesast of Yuma.

October 1938 Waverly items "Mr. and Mrs. Truman Prather entertained a number of friends and relatives at dinner Sunday in honor of the former's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester."

March 21, 1940 "Mr. and Mrs. Truman Prather and family have moved to the Harry Smith place east of Abarr while looking for a place to rent."
