Val and Elizabeth (Frick) Lippert, 5 South 45 West

December 23, 1926 "Valentine Lippert was born
near Belleville, Illinois, November 28, 1848 and
departed this life December 16, 1926 at Wray, Colorado.
He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Frink, February
23, 1873, at Mount Vernon, Illinois.
To this union nine children were born. Four of whom
proceeded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure:
his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Julius Buehler of
Trenton, Illinois, Mrs. Ernest Hinderer of Iuka,
Illinois and Mrs. Chas Kloeb of Denver, Colorado;
and two sons, John and Julius who reside near Wray.
There are also nine grandchildren and two sisters and
one brother. They are Mrs. Mary Altenbaumer of
Springfield, Illinois, Mrs. Rose Smith of
Central City, Illinois, Henry Lippert of Shattuc,
Illinois.
Beside the relatives there are many friends
that will miss him.
Mr. Lippert was a veteran of the Civil war.
He enlisted at St. Louis, Mo., when he was 17 years
of age.
He had been in poor health for a number of
years, but bore his suffering patiently.
Funeral services were conducted from the
house Saturday December 18 with Rev. Earl O.
Harbour officiating and interment was made at Vernon."

September 17, 1931 "Mrs. Elizabeth Lippert, widow of the
late Valentine Lippert and a long time resident of this
locality, died at her home in Wray Sunday following a
prolonged illness.
Funeral services were held Monday
afternoon from the home with Rev. H. J. Burdick of Vernon
in charge. Interment was in Glendale Cemetery at Vernon.
Elizabeth Frick was born in Belleville, Illinois,
Sept. 7th, 1852 and departed this life at her home
in Wray, Colo., Sept. 13, 1931 at the age of 79 years
and 6 days. She was united in marriage to Valentine
Lippert, Feb., 23, 1873 in Central City, Illinois,
who departed to the Great Beyond on Dec., 16, 1926.
To this union were born nine children,
four who preceeded their mother in death and five who
remain to mourn their loss; three daughters:
Mrs. Julius Buehler of Trenton, I11.,
Mrs. Ernest Hinderer of Iuka, I11., and
Mrs. Chas. Kloeb of Wray; also two sons:
John and Julius of Wray, besides ten grandchildren,
one sister, Mrs. Anne Ames of Central City, Illinois,
and a host of other relatives and friends who will
miss her words of cheer and her sunny smile.
Although she was ill for so many years, she bore
her pains patiently and uncomplainingly,
always looking on the bright side of life.
Truly a noble and Christian life was here.
To know her was to love her."

ELIZABETH
Elizabeth 1874-1935, # 147034195,
is buried in Clinton County, Illinois, with Julius
Buehler 1866-1945.
February 28, 1935 "John and Julius Lippert received a
message Tuesday of last week giving them the sad news that
their sister, Mrs. Julius Buehler, had passed away at
her home at Trenton, Illinois. John Lippert left Tuesday
evening via the Burlington for Trenton, and Mrs. Chas.
Kloeb, also a sister of the deceased lady, went to
Trenton from her home in Denver. Mrs. Buehler was about
61 years old. She leaves a husband and six or seven
children, two brothers, two sisters, and many less
near relatives as well as a host of friends.
She had been in failing health for some time.
Mrs. Buehler visited in Wray some five years ago
at the time her mother passed away. The bereaved
relatives have the sincere sympathy of many friends
in their sad hour. Funeral services for Mrs.
Buehler were held last Friday."
BERTHA
Bertha, 30, married Ernest B. Hinderer on April 29, 1922 in Yuma County.
"A very pretty wedding took place Saturday evening,
April 29 at the Christian parsonage, when Miss Bertha
Lippert of this city became the bride of Mr. Ernest Linderer
of Iuka, Illinois. The Rev. Rachel Dangerfield Boast
performed the wedding nuptials. The ceremony was witnessed
by only a few relatives of the bride. The bride was
attired in a very pretty traveling suit. After the
ceremony the bridal party went to the home of the bride,
where a reception was tendered them.
A sumptuous dinner was served Sunday, to which a number
of relatives were invited. The house was appropriately
decorated for the occasion. The wedding feast was the finest
ever. A huge wedding cake, made by the bride's brother-in-law,
Chas. Kloeb, adorned the center of the table at the wedding
dinner. The bride is tho youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Val Lippert of this city.
She is one of the popular young ladies of the town and
her many friends wish her all happiness. The groom is a
resident of Iuka, Illinois, where he is engaged in the general
merchandise business. He is prominent in the social and
business circles of Iuka and is a successful business man.
Mr. and Mrs. Linderer departed Wednesday evening for
Iuka, where they will make their home. They were
accompanied as far as Trenton, Illinois, by the bride's
parents, who will visit Mrs. Julius Buehler, another
daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Linderer will be the
principals at a big reception tendered in their behalf
when they arrive in Iuka. The Rattler extends Mr.
and Mrs. Linderer heartiest congratulations and good
wishes."
September 1940 "Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hinderer of Iuka, Illinois,
have been visiting several days the past week at the homes
of John and Julius Lippert, brothers of Mrs. Hinderer.
Mr. and Mrs. Hinderer came to Colorado on their vacation
trip some three weeks ago and after visiting here a few
days they motored to Denver to visit Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kloeb.
Then they motored on to Yellowstone Park and they were
accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kloeb. The latter part
of last week they returned to Wray and while here
Mr. Hinderer called at this office and left the makins'
for another year's subscription. Mr. Hinderer is
the proprietor of a general mercantile business at Iuka
and he reports that business is good."
September 1947 "Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Hinderer of Iuka,
I11., visited last week at the Julius Lippert home and with
other relatives. Mrs. Hinderer is a sister of Mr. Lippert.
Mr. and Mrs. Hinderer also visited in Denver and the
mountains before returning to Illinois."
Bertha L. (Lippert) Hinderer 1892-1976 is buried
in Iuka, Illinois # 103157400, with Ernest Benjamin Hinderer 1887-1972.
JOHN
J. V. Lippert, 32, married Maud Crewson on May 8, 1911 in Wray.
"John V. Lippett and Maud Crowson,
southwest of town, obtained a license
to wed, from the county clerk Monday."
John proved up a quarter in section 27 in 1912, and a quarter in sections 27 and 34,
5S 45W in 1913.
Maud Hiser was in Wray in 1900, born Feb 1886
in Iowa, with uncle Gust Hiser 42 born in Sweden and Lucy V. 37 born in Illinois.
September 15, 1905 "On last Tuesday
evening, at the home of the bride's
parents, Miss Maude Heser and Mr.
Tom Crewson were united in marriage.
These young people need no
introduction, as they are well
known in this community,
and their many friends wish them
a long and happy wedded life.
Mr. and Mrs. Crewson departed
Wednesday for an extended tour
in the west."
"Thomas J. Cruson was born August 30,
1880, in the state of Missouri. He moved
to Wray about eleven years ago. On
September 11, 1905, he was married
to Maude Hiser. He departed this
life Wednesday morning, May 4, 1910.
He leaves a wife and little son to
mourn his early death. The
funeral services occurred at the
Christian church Thursday
morning, May 5th, at 11
oclock conducted by the Rev.
W. C. German and interment
made at Grandview cemetery.
The sincere sympathy of the
friends are with the
bereaved ones."
John and Maud are farming alone in 1930 and 1940 Yuma County.
June 1942 "Mr. and Mrs. John Lippert moved Monday from their place southwest of town to the place in east Wray which Mr. Lippert recently purchased from the Ben Shier estate. The Lipperts have redecorated the interior of their new home and are planning improvements to the grounds that will make them a most desirable residence property. The Lippcrts recently sold their 860-acre ranch on the river six miles southwest of town to Claude McCoy, and the latter family moved to the place as the Lippcrts vacated."
"Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Willis C.
Wisehart, were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the
Lockwood Mortuary in Wray for Mrs. John V. Lippert, a
former Wray resident who died unexpectedly Friday at her
home was at Wickenburg, Arizona. Grandview cemetery.
Mrs. Lippert's body, accompanied by her husband, was brought to Wray by plane from Arizona Sunday.
The former Maud Lucy Hiser was born at Red Oak,
Iowa, on February 17, 1885. When she was one year
old she moved to Wray, where she
grew to womanhood. She was married Thomas J. Crewson in 1905. The couple had one son, Marvin J. Crewson, now of June Lake California.
Mr. Crewson died in 1910. In 1911 the widow married
John V. Lippert who survives her.
Mr. and Mrs. Lippert made their home near Wray until
1944 when they moved to Wickenburg, Arizona,
where they resided until Mrs. Lippert's unexpected death
on April 12, 1963."
Maude is buried in Wray 1885-1963 # 59067963.
John is buried in Vernon 1879-1966 # 79939255.
September 22, 1938 "Zenos Z. Zion and Miss Bernice E.
Lippert, both of Vernon, were united in marriage Saturday,
Sept. 17, at the Methodist parsonage in Wray, with the
Rev. Wm. Brown officiating. The ceremony was performed at
9:30 a. m. and was witnessed by Mesdames Mary Zion and
Edna Lippert, mothers of the groom and bride. The newlyweds are well known and popular young people of Vernon. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lippert and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Zion.
The Rattler extends the happy pair congratulations and good wishes."
FRED
Fred proved up two quarters in section 28 in 1913.
April 30, 1925
"Fred Lippert, farmer southwest of town, received a
frightful burn from the explosion of a gasoline stove, Tuesday evening about four o’clock. Mr. Lippert had come to town to assist in caring for his father, Val lippert, who is seriously ill at his home in the south part of town. He had only been here a few minutes when the Stove near which he was standing, exploded, followed by the exploslon of the gas can near by. The flaming contents struck Mr. Lippert on the abdomen about the waist line and ran down to his feet, producing deep and painful burns before the fire could le extinguished. Fortunately the house did not catch lire. Mr. Lippert has been removed to the hospital where he is suffering intensely from the wounds. Just what the outcome will be cannot at this time be told. But it is said should he recover he probably will be permanently disfigured from the wounds. The many friends of Mr. Lippert and family sincerely sympathize with them in their misfortune.
" Fred Lippert is feeling better this
morning from the frightful burns he received Tuesday
evening. Val Lippert, father of Fred Lippert, is
growing worse, and it is feared he cannot survive long.""
April 18, 1929
"When Mrs. Fred Lippert failed to report for her work at the Wray hospital this morning, one of the nurses at the hospital went to investigate and found her dead at her home. Mrs. Lippert has been in good health and it is possible that a coroners inquest win be held to determine the cause of her death. Mr. Lippert was burned to death a few year ago and Mrs. Lippert has been living alone. More complete details will be published in a later issue.:
"Gertrude Merchant, beloved daughter of
John and Emma Merchant, was born in Princetown, Ind.,
July 1, 1896 and departed this life at her home in Wray
on April 18,1929. She was united in marriage,
Oct. 4, 1922 to Fred Henry Lippert of Wray, Colo.
Her happiness was terminated in the sudden passing
of her beloved husband, May 9, 1924. Her bright and
sunny disposition made her beloved by all. She
leaves to mourn her passing her dear parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Merchant of Illinois, one sister, and one brother. Four sisters and one brother have preceeded her in death. She also leaves to mourn her departure her husband’s aged mother, Mrs. Val Lippert, Mr. and Mrs. Johh Lippert Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lippert and children of Wray, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hinderer of Iuka, Ill, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kloeb of Denver and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Buehler and family of Preston, Illinois, besides many other friends and relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. • Christy and interment was in Glendale cemetery. "
Kirmundy, Illinois April 25, 1929 "
April 25, 1929 “Mr. and Mrs. John MERCHANT received
a message Thursday morning stating that the daughter,
Mrs. Gertrude LIPPERT of Wray, Colorado, had died
Thursday. She leaves her parents; 2 sisters - Mrs. Grace
MENDENHALL of this city, and Mrs. Myrtle DAVIS of
Petersburg, Ind.; and 1 brother - Ray MERCHANT of
Urbana."
1931 " On April 18, 1929, Mrs. Gertrude Lippert passed
away and by the terms of a will which Mrs. Lippert had
executed a legacy of $5,000 was left to the owners of
the Wray hospital to be used for improvements at the
hospital. The will further provided that certain friends
of the deceased were entitled to the use of one room free,
one month of each year for a period of five years.
These persons are: Mr. and Mrs. Eli Fike,
Mr. and Mrs. A1 Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Hadlock
and son, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Lippert and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Charles Smith and daughter,
and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lynam. Out of the $5,000
legacy $350 was used to pay inheritance tax and
the remainder has been used in making improvement
s at the hospital. A new wing was erected on the
west side of the old building and this new portion
will be known as the Lippert Memorial.
As a result of the Lippert legacy there has come
into existence five surgical rooms, one
operating room, physician's wash room,
supply room, office and waiting room,
and a furnace that heats the entire building.
The Wray hospital now has twenty rooms,
all intensely modern. The southwest room
of the Lippert Memorial, which is indeed
the finest room in the building, has been
reserved for the use of those persons
designated in the Lippert will. "

In 1920 Julius is farming, 23, with Edna 19, Marie 2, and Fredric newborn.
In 1930 Yuma County, J. R. is 34, Edna V. 30, E. Marie 12, Jlius t. 10, and Bernice E. 8.
In 1940 Julius is 44, Edna 40, Fred J. 20, and James S. 6.
September 1, 1949
"Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lippert of the Vernon community
were taken to the Wray Community hospital Wednesday evening
following an accident one-half mile south of the William
Menke place on the river road to Vernon. The Lipperts were
returning home when they met the Hugh Doughty car which
was pulling a heavy machinery trailer. In attempting
to pass the Lippert car and the trailer collided.
One side of the Lippert car was demolished and it was
upset in the collision. Neither Mr. Doughty nor
Jimmie Lippert, the couple's son who was driving,
were hurt."
December 1953 "Julius Lippert returned home Friday from
Sterling where he had been hospitalized for two weeks
following eye surgery in which a cataract was removed
from his left eye. Mrs. Lippert was in Sterling during
that time to be near her husband."
July 10, 1958 "Wilbur C. Gillett of Denver, a brother
of Lester Gillett and Mrs. Julius Lippert of near Vernon,
died unexpectedly Sunday evening in an automobile as he was
returning with companions from a fishing trip.
Death was attributed to a heart attack.
The funeral services will be held in Denver Saturday
morning at 11 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gillett and Gary,
Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Gillett, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wood,
Mrs. Albert Anderson, Fred Lippert, Jim Lippert and
Mr. and Mrs. Zenos Zion are planning to go to Denver
for the services.
Mr. Gillett was well known in this area and had been a
resident here at various times. He was 64 years old.
Survivors include his wife, Hulda;
a son Wilbur C. of California;
two daughters, Norma and Joan;
three brothers, Robert of Huey, Ill.,
Luther of Wadsworth, Kan., and Lester of Vernon;
three sisters, Lessie of Carlyle, I11.,
Gertrude Chezem of Shattuck, Ill., and Mrs. Lippert of Vernon."
May 9, 1935 "Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson, who reside in the community north of Vernon, are the parents of a fine 10 pound baby girl born Wednesday evening, May Ist. The little lady will be taught to answer to the name, Beverly Joanne. Mrs. Anderson was Miss Marie Lippert before her marriage. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lippert."
"Zenos Z. Zion and Miss Bernice E. Lippert were united
in marriage on Saturday morning, September 17, 1938
at 9:40 a. m. at the manse of the Methodist church in Wray.
Rev. William Brown read the single ring ceremony uniting the
two in marriage.
The young couple were accompanied by the bridegroom's
father, and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Zion of Vernon,
and the mother of the bride, Mrs. Julius Lippert,
also of Vernon.
Several other younger friends were present at the ceremony."
September 1, 1960
"MISS LA RUE LIPPERT graduated on Friday, May 25, 1962,
from the Colorado Institute for Medical Assistants in
Denver and is now employed in the x-ray department
at the Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Hospital.
Miss Lippert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lippert of Vernon,
is a 196l graduate of the Wray high school."
Julius Raymond Lippert is buried in Vernon # 79939324, 1896-1972,
with Edna Gillett Lippert 1900-1980.
Fred Julius Lippert, born August 4, 1919, died October 7, 2003.
July 4, 1946 "Tragedy stalked the toddling footsteps of
baby Freddie Dale Lippert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Lippert
who reside southwest of Wray, as he played about the yard
of his farm home Sunday afternoon. The father and a helper
were working on a car in the yard, it is reported, and the
baby was playing nearby. The little fellow had spent
many hours playing in that vicinity and so his father did
not become alarmed when the baby's absence was noticed for
it was thought he had gone into the house.
However when he was not found at the house a search was
immediately instituted and the tiny boy was found in a
small stock tank which contained a minimum amount of water.
All efforts proved futile in trying to restore life to the
baby in spite of the fact that it is believed that he was
under the water cnly a very short time.
Freddie Dale Lippert, son of Fred J. and Fern E.
Lippert, was born Oct. 16, 1944 and departed this life
June 30, 1946 at the age of one year, 8 months and 14 days.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his grief-stricken parents,
one sister Lois LaRue, age 3, his grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Lippert,
and a host of less near relatives and friends.
His sweet loving face and happy disposition will
be sadly missed by his loving parents, sister and all
who knew him, for to know him was to love him.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m.,
at the Lockwood Mortuary. Rev. Gile V. Wilson of the
Methodist church will conduct the service.
Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery at Vernon. The Rattler
joins the many friends in extending heartfelt sympathy to
the young parents and the grandparents in their tragic loss."
EMMA
March 1925 "Charley Kloeb and wife, who have been
operating a picture show in Denver ever since disposing
of their bakery here some two years ago, have been
visiting relatives here the past week. They have sold
their Denver moving picture show and are now looking
for a location. Mrs. Kloeb is a sister of the Lippert
boys west of town and daughter of Val Lippert of this
city."
May 15, 1952 "Funeral service for Charles H. Kloeb, retired Denver
and Wray baker were held at 1 p.m. Saturday,
in the Olinger Mortuary, Boulder st. in Denver.
Entombment followed. Mr. Kloeb, who lived at 3436 W.
33d ave., died Tuesday in St. Anthony’s Hospital
following a long illness. He was 74.
Mr. Kloeb was born Jan. 14, 1878, in Washington, Mo.,
His parents died when he was very young and he later
moved to St. Louis where he worked as an apprentice baker.
He married Emma L. Lippert in St. Louis on June 26, 1907.
In 1918 the couple moved to Wray and came to Denver
in 1922. He purchased and operated the Edison Theater
in Denver until 1929 when he returned to Wray and
operated a bakery. In 1934 Mr. Kloeb again returned
to Denver where he lived the rest of his life.
He lost his sight in 1946. Mr. Kloeb was a
member of the Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias,
and Woodmen of the World.
Survivors are his wife; two brothers-in-law,
John Lippert of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Julius Lippert
of Vernon; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ernest Hinderer of Iuka,
I11., and many nieces and nephews."
Emma is buried with Charles in Wheat Ridge, Colorado # 30046079.
