George Washington Wheatley BIRTH 6 Oct 1860 Leopold, Perry County, Indiana, DEATH Aug 1927 (aged 66) Phillips County, Colorado, BURIAL Holyoke Memorial Park Holyoke, Phillips County, Colorado, MEMORIAL ID 82966998.

"Another of the sturdy pioneers answered the final roll call and passed into the greater life beyond Sunday, when George Wheatley died at his home 20 miles southeast of Holyoke.
Nearly 20 years ago he homesteaded on the plot that has since been his home and immediately became a part of the community in which he lived. He was of that stable and stalwart type of character that demanded the respect of all, even his enemies, if he ever had one. It was in this home that there was given to the community six wonderful sons and daughters all now grown to manhood and womanhood and still living in and near the old home. Sons and daughters of the same type and character as was their noble father who has passed on.
On last Sunday he, in company with the remainder of the family, was visiting at the home of his son, Arthur, when he was stricken with some pains which caused him some discomfort but did not prove alarming. On returning home in the evening he attempted to assist with the chores but was forced to give it up and retired about seven thirty. Growing suddenly worse he passed away at 8:30.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Ward A. Hougas was in charge of the service. Rev. T.A. Hougas of Macedonia, Iowa preached the sermon. Rev. J. W. Bullis offered prayer. Interment was made in the local cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss, his faithful wife, six grown children, four of which are still at home, many other relatives and friends.
In his passing the community has lost one of that type of citizens who has made a worthy contribution to society.
A large group of friends and relatives crowded the Baptist church as they gathered to pay their final respects to the passing of one they loved."
