John O. and Josephine Thomas , 5 North 43 West
John proved up two quarters in section 35, 5N 43W in
1916.
1922 " Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Thomas of Haxtun visited their daugnter, Mrs. Merle Powell, Wednesday of this week. "
Chas. B. Wilson will hold a sale at his place.
Known us the John O. Thomas ranch, 23 miles southeast of
Holyoke. He will sell 16 horses and mules,
85 herd of cuttle, 32 head of hogs, and a lot of
machinery, household goods and feed. Lunch will
be served at noon. Wednesday, March 6th, 1924."
April 1930 Wray "Jesse Thomas of North Platte, a nephew of J. O. Thomas, has bought the North Side Cafe in Wray and took possession of the business Monday of this week.."
February 1937 Wray "Ivan Neuschwanger made the purchase of the J. O. Thomas Shoe Repair Shop here on Friday of last week and took immediate charge of the business which he will operate in the future. Ivan formerly operated a shoe repair business in Wray, being interested here for two years. Leaving Wray he went into the same business in Denver and repaired shoes there for some time. J. O. Thomas, we understand, has no definite plans for the future..
Josephene Silbaugh was born at Viroqua, Wise.,
Nov. 20, 1867 and departed this life at her home in Holyoke,
Colo., Feb. 14, 1946 at the age of 78 years, 2 months
and 25 days. She went to Missouri with her parents at
the age of 17 years, finished her education and taught
school several years. She united with the Methodist
church and was very active in church work. On June
, 1898 she was united in marriage with John O. Thomas.
To this union three children were born.
She came to Colorado with her husband and family in
1909 where she resided until her death.
She leaves to mourn her departure a loving husband,
two daughters and one son, Mrs. Bessie Cumley of Wray,
Mrs. Marie Powell and Victor Thomas of Holyoke,
seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;
one sister Rosa Shumard of Bethany, Mo.„
a half-sister Delphia Hendren of Morrill, Nebr.,
and a host of friends.
Her only brother preceded her in death.
She was a consistant Christian and a loving mother.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church
in Holyoke Sunday at 2 p. m.
Rev. Franks of the Methodist church conducted the
service. Interment was in the Holyoke cemetery.
The Rattler extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives."
November 6, 1952 "John Thomas, who had a shoe repair shop in Wray for many years, died Saturday night during his sleep in Holyoke at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam Powell. Death was attributed to a heart attack, according to word received in Wray. Mr. Thomas is survived by one other daughter, the former Bess Cumley of Fort Morgan. "
