July 1935 " Harvey Krautschun, 10 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Krautschun,
suffered a broken arm Tuesday evening from cranking a car for his father. Mrs. Krautschun and Harvey Els took him to Holyoke for medical attention. "

"Mrs. Henrietta Els, aged seventy-six, died Monday night, January 24
at the home of her son Henry Els in the Cement neighborhood.
Mrs. Els had been a resident of this state for a number of years and had made her
home with her son. Short funeral services will be held at Holyoke with another
service and interment at her old home in Missouri.
Mrs. Els is survived by three children, Henry, Carl of Wray,
and Mrs. Sophia Krautchen of north of Wray."

"Harvey Krautschun and his wife Joy started a New York Life business in 1976 in Spearfish
providing pension and retirement plans before starting Financial Benefits Inc. in 1979.
Harvey and Joy were blessed with two children – Bart (wife, Nicole) & Jamie (husband,
Mike). From these marriages they were blessed with 8 grandchildren.
Harvey served in the South Dakota Legislature for 12 years as a representative from District
31 and held the position of Speaker of the House his last term. During his time at the legislature,
he was presented with the “Guardian of Small Business” Award.
He has served on the BHSU Foundation Board of Directors for many years, including time
as president of the group. He has also served in other community leadership roles including
Spearfish Lion’s Club, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the West River Estate Planning Council and
more.
In 2008, Harvey was recognized by Black Hills State University Alumni Foundation as “One
of BHSU Top 125 Accomplished Alumni”. And then in 2009, Harvey and Joy were honored to sit
as Parade Marshals for the BHSU Swarm Day Parade.
In 1996, business partner, Tamara Burke, started with the financial firm and the business
has evolved today into providing a multitude of financial and planning resources for the entire
region.
In addition to their long-term business success and recognition in the industry, Harvey and
his staff give their time and financial gifts generously to community programs.
For those that know Harvey, they know the passion he has for humankind and Spearfish.

"Martin Lynn “Marty” Krautschun Sr. was born in Loveland to Iris and Harvey Krautschun Sr.
On May 17, 1978, he married his lifetime partner and best friend, Cindy Buttram.
He lived his life doing what he loved best, which was farming and raising animals. He loved fishing and hunting with his family and friends especially shooting his first elk ever this past winter. He also loved his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them on the farm riding horses and feeding calves.
Mr. Krautschun Sr. died Friday of a heart attack.
Survivors: His wife Cindy Krautschun of Kersey; his mother, Iris Krautschun of Kersey; sons, Martin Lynn Krautschun Jr. and wife Sarah of La Salle, and Chris Krautschun and wife Carla of Colorado Springs; daughters, Paula Waugh and husband Jesse of Briggsdale and Lena Krautschun of Colorado Springs; five brothers, a sister and five grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: His father, Harvey Krautschun Sr.
Services: Memorial Services to be arranged for a later date. Cremation with Moser Funeral Service"
