"Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Els, who died Sunday, were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Church of the Nazarene in Wray with the Reverend Laurence Gifford officiating. Interment was at Grandview cemetery. The Lockwood Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Els was ill only a short time and had been moved to the Community hospital shortly before her death.
Alice Rosie Steiner, youngest daughter of Gottlieb and Lina Steiner, was born June 14, 1896, and died August 11, 1957, at the age of 61 years, one month and 27 days. During her childhood days she was enrolled in the Cold Point school near Steinauer, Neb., and received her education there. She was confirmed in the Evangelical church at an early age.
On September 23, 1919, she was united in marriage, by the same minister by whom she had been confirmed, to Carl Frank Els. They lived for a time near Alvin and at Champion, Neb. They later moved to Laird and in 1942 the family came to Wray where Mrs. Els Joined the Church of The Nazarene and remained a faithful member until the end.
Surviving her are her husband, Carl, of Max, Neb.; her children, Leona Wilson of Wray, Bryan of Benkelman, Neb., Herbert of Pasadena, Calif., Delbert of Plentywood, Mont., and Ivan of Wray; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William Davenport of Denver and Mrs. Selma Faust of Moffit, N. D., and two brothers, Art Steiner of Odell, Neb., and Albert Steiner of Pawnee, Nebraska. "

LEONA

"A wedding of wide interest in this community occurred Saturday, April 6, 1946, at 7 o'clock in the evening, at St. Francis, Kansas, when Miss Leona Els, attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Els, became the bride of Bruce Wilson. Justice Crosby performed the ceremony, and the couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Wells.
The bride wore a blue suit, with pink and white accessories, and Mrs. Wells wore a yellow street dress with black accessories. Mrs. Wilson graduated from the Wray High school in 1945 and has since been employed at the National Bank of Wray. She enjoys a large popularity among the young folks of the community. Her husband was discharged in September as a Staff Sergeant after three and a half years in tne army, three of which were spent overseas. He is a son at Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wilson of north of Wray.
The groom is now engaged in farming, and Mrs. Wilson will continue her work at the local bank until June first. After that, their plans are indefinite."

BRYON

Byron Els, son of Mrs. Leona Els of Wray, was married to Miss Leah Richard of Parks at a pretty ceremony which occurred at Benkelman, Nebraska, on Wednesday afternoon, December 1, 1948.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Richard of Parks, is a graduate of the Benkelman high school. For her wedding she chose a light grey wool gabardine suit with black accessories. Her corsage was of red roses. Her attendant was Miss Shirley Reisher, a school friend, who wore a pastel blue suit with black accessories and a corsage. The groom was attended by his best friend, Jack Davis, of Wray. Following the wedding the bridal party returned to the Richard home where they were honored at a reception attended by the immediate relatives and a few close friends. The couple will make their home on a farm north of Benkelman where the groom has been employed since his graduation from the Benkelman high school.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Wilson, Mrs. Alice Els and three younger sons of Wray were among the reception guests."

"Mr. and Mrs. Byron Els of Benkelman are the parents of a daughter Judith Ann who was born Thursday, March 13, 1952, at the Community hospital in Wray."

" Byron L. Els passed away at the age of 90, on February 8, 2020.
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl Els and Alice Els (Steiner); and his sons, Richard and Dennis. He is survived by his wife Leah Richard; his daughter Judy Lutz (Joe); his brothers, Herbert Els and Ivan Els (Bertha); and his sister-in-law Alice Baney. He is also survived by grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends."

Edna Louise Martin, age 96, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019, at 9:31 AM at her home in Marion. She was born in Tick Ridge, Ohio on August 28, 1923, the daughter of Henderson “H.R.” and Mae (Perry) Smith. Edna married Arthur L. Martin on July 13, 1942 in Kentucky and he preceded her in death on October 5, 1988 in Marion.
Edna is survived by two sons; Roger (Sheryl) Martin and Terry (Jeriann) Martin both of Marion, OH., three daughters; Bertha (Ivan) Els, Linda Carole (James) Quinn, & Marsha (Tony) Akers all of Marion, OH., 12 grandchildren, numerous great & great great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Arthur, a son; Richard Martin, four brothers; Roy, John, Frank, & Fred, and four sisters; Lula, Idabelle, Virginia, & Ruth.

LYLE

September 1954 Wray "Delbert Els is leaving this Thursday for Pasadena, Calif., to attend the Pasadena College, Church of the Nazarene.."

"The Church of the Nazarene in Golden was the scene of a summer wedding: Sunday afternoon, June 8, 1952, when Miss Frances Louise Brewsaugh, daughter of Mrs. George Brewsaugh of Golden and Herbert Dean Els, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Els of Wray, were married " The bride, given in marriage by her brother, L. V. Brewsaugh of Long Beach, Calif.
Mrs. Frank Wicks of Golden was matron of honor, the bridesmaid, Mrs. Kenneth McLeod, Miss Diana Brewsaugh, niece of the bride, was her junior bridesmaid. Miss Joan McClelland was the candlelighter. Best man for the groom, was Byron Els of Benkelman and Bruce Wilson of Wray was the groom's attendant. Ushers were Kenneth McLeod and Chester Robinson. Mrs. Bruce Wilson and Mrs. L. V. Brewsaugh served at the reception which was at the Brewsaugh home. Miss Margaret La Reu was in charge of the guest book. Following a short trip in the state the couple will live in Pasadena, Calif., where both attended Pasadena college. The bride is a graduate of the Golden high school and was formerly employed at the Colorado School of Mines experimental plant. The groom graduated from the Wray high school and is employed in a store for the summer."


"Miss Mary Patricia Key of Roundup, Mont., exchanged marriage vows with Lyle Delbert Els, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Els of Wray, at a double ring ceremony on Saturday, March 3, 1956, at the Emmanuel Baptist church in Roundup. The Rev. Edward Brewer officiated. Miss Carlene Key, a sister, was bridesmaid. Ernest Satterwait was best man and ushers were Jim Key, brother of the bride, and Melvin Hanley, her brother-in-law. The reception afterward was in the church parlor. Mrs. Melvin Hanley out the cake and was assisted in serving the guests by Miss Rosemary Shields, Miss Jo Ann Wilhelmi, Gail and Pat Hanley. Miss Carlene Key was in charge of the guest book. The bride is atending Roundup high school and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Key of Roundup. The groom attended college at Pasadena, Calif., for a year and a half and is now employed by Exploration Consultants, Inc. They will make their home at 212 Third Street West in Roundup."

"Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Els, who moved to Wolf Point, Mont., from Plentywood, Mont., in February, became the parents of a baby boy on April 5, 1959. He weighed seven pounds and was named Terry Duain."


February 1963 "Jackie, the five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Els of Price, Utah, drowned Sunday, Feb 3, when she fell into a reservoir near her home when ice on top of the reservoir broke through. The reservoir was an emergency water supply for Price Utah. It is located near where the Els family lived on the outskirts of Price. It was protected by an eight-foot fence, but a dog had dug a hole and the little girl, her brother Terry, 3. and another youngster crawled through the hole and went onto the ice. When the girl broke through the ice, the three-year-old brother ran back to tell their mother, but help arrived too late to save the child. Mr. Els' sister, Mrs. Bruce Wilson and Mr. Wilson of Wray, his father, Carl Els of Max, Neb., and a brother, Byron Els of Benkelman, Neb. went to attend the burial service at the New Miner's Cemetery at Roundup, Mont. that was held Thursday afternoon of last week. Jackie is survived by her parents, her brother, Terry, and a sister, Carla."

Lyle married Joyce D. Thomas on July 25, 1986 in Sundance, Wyoming, dying in Bismarck.
Lyle "Del" Els, 65, Beulah, died Sept. 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital of natural causes. Private services will be held.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.
Lyle Delbert Els was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Laird, Colo., the fourth of five children of Carl and Alice (Steiner) Els. He was raised and educated in Wray, Colo., graduating from Wray High School in 1953. In 1955, he became employed with Century Geophysical Corp. of Roundup, Mont., and was employed with the company for 22 years. Del moved to Beulah in 1975 and became employed with Ost Sanitation Service. He purchased the business in 1983, changing the name to Els Sanitation. Del owned this business until 1997, when he sold it due to diminishing health. On July 25, 1986, he was united in marriage to Joyce D. Thomas at Sundance, Wyo.
Del was a loving husband and father, and a devoted grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed the company of his "special buddies," the family pets, Tinker, Tuffie, Puttsie and Peattie.
He is survived by his children, Terry Els, Casper, Wyo., and Carla Els, Elk Grove, Calif. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Joyce; and five step-children and their spouses, Melissa Thomas, Bismarck, Jeff and Lisa Thomas, Little Rock, Ark., Jayme and Heidi Thomas, Kelso, Wash., Tracy Thomas, Bismarck, and Jeremy Thomas and his friend, Tristin Mann, Bismarck; two step-grandchildren, Damian and Delaney Thomas, Kelso, Wash.; one sister, Leona and Bruce Wilson, Wray, Colo.; and three brothers, Byron and Leah Els, Benkleman, Neb., Herb and Louise Els, Bethany, Okla., and Ivan and Bertha Els, Marion, Ohio.
Del was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Jacqueline.
