In 1910 Phillips County, Kansas, Charles J. Dodson is farming, 28, Ida M. Dodson 29 Wife, Rudy G. Dodson 6 Son, and Nellie G. Dodson 3 Daughter.

May 1920 "Thursday night of last week while Charles Dodson, who lives about twenty-five miles south of Holyoke, was on his way home from Holyoke, with a four-horse team and a load of posts, he was struck by a car belonging to Mr. Critchlow, which was driven by a young man in his employ, and a son of Mr. Miles, living southwest of town. The young men were on their way to attend the class play at the High school and because of poor lights and the foggy night failed to see the team until too late to avoid the collision. One of the horses was killed, the car practically wrecked and one of the boys severely bruised and cut. It was fortunate that no one was killed as the impact must have been tremendous. The accident occurred directly south of town near the home of Mr. Decatur."

Charlie proved up 320 acres in section 20, 29 and 30, and stock-claimed 320 acres in sections 19, 20, and 30, all in 1921.

February 1922 Wray Rattler "Charlie Dodson, prominent farmer living north of Wray some twenty odd miles, was in Wray the latter part of last week with a bunch of hogs that he shipped to the market from this place. Mr. Dodson called at this office while in town for a friendly chat and incidentally took advantage of the special subscription offer we are making."

"Henry Figg was born Sept. 13, 1857, at Iowa City, Iowa, and died at Wray, Colo., April 22, 1939, at the age of 81 years, seven months, nine days. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. There remains but one sister, Mrs. Emma Lindner of Papillion, Neb., one brother, William Figg of Casper, Wyo., a number of nephews and nieces with many old friends and neighbors of this community to mourn his departure. Mrs. D. Forest Upward, a niece of Arapahoe, Neb., is here for the funeral.
Henry came to Nebraska taking a homestead northeast of Lamar in 1886. He lived in this community until 1919 when he moved near Alvin, Colo., where he spent his remaining years having made his nome for the last three years with the family of Charles Dodson. "
"Henry Figg died at the Wray hospital April 22nd. The remains were taken to Lamar, Neb., where on the 25th funeral services were held and the remains were buried."

June 1940 "Mrs. Chas. Dodson accompanied her brother, Mr. Fred Carpenter and wife to Lewellen, Nebraska, Saturday to visit at the home of her brother, Mr. Frank Carpenter and family."

June 1944 "Corp. and Mrs. Chester Dodson of Ft. Jackson, S. C., came Saturday to spend a 15 day furlough. They are visiting Chester’s parents, Mr. and Airs. Charlie Dodson, and other relatives and friends. "

July 1944 "Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carpenter of Akron left Monday after visiting several days with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dodson. Mr. Carpenter is a brother of Mrs. Dodson."

September 1944 "Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Dodson of Denver visited the latter part of the week at the Charles Dodson home."
"Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Dodson, Velda Long and Kenneth Dodson were Tuesday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Porter and Cora Marie. ""

July 1945 "Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Dodson, Mrs. Cecil Critchlow and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dodson motored to Julesburg Sunday morning where they met Cpl. Chester Dodson. Chester has been given an honorable discharge from the army. All enjoyed a picnic dinner in Julesburg."

"Charles Dodson, 76, passed away Monday night at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver. He had been in poor health for some time.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. J. Hubert Wubben officiating. Interment will be at Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements are in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home.
Charles John Dodson was born on March 6, 1882, in Smith County, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Ida May Carpenter on February 26, 1902, at Smith Center, Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Dodson moved to a farm about 20 miles southeast of Holyoke in Yuma County in 1913 and engaged in farming until 1946, when they moved to Holyoke. They resided in Holyoke until two years ago when they moved to Derby.
Surviving Mr. Dodson are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Critchlow, Denver; three sons, Ruby, Denver, Chester, Aurora, and Kenneth, Derby; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and a brother and sister, who live in Los Angeles, California."

"Mrs. Ida May Dodson, formerly of Holyoke, passed away Monday at Brighton. She was 80 years of age.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. yesterday at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. J. Hubert Wubben officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements were in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home.
A daughter of Alfred and Maria Carpenter, Mrs. Dodson was born December 21, 1880, in Jewell County, Kansas. In February 1901 she was united in marriage with Charles John Dodson.
Mr. and Mrs. Dodson moved to a homestead southeast of Holyoke in the north edge of Yuma County in 1913, residing there for 31 years. They moved to Holyoke in 1946 and made their home here until four years ago when they moved to Derby.
Mr. Dodson preceded his wife in death two years ago. Also preceding Mrs. Dodson in death were one brother, Frank Carpenter, and a sister, Belle Carpenter.
Survivors include three sons, Rudy Dodson, Denver, Chester Dodson, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Kenneth Dodson, Derby; one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Critchlow, Denver; two brothers, Fred Carpenter, Denver and Ira Carpenter, Watsonville, California; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends."

CHESTER

"A wedding of interest to many occurred March 20, 1943, at Las Vegas, Nevada. The contracting parties were Norma Briggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Briggs of Lamar, Nebraska, and Corporal Chester H. Dodson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Dodson of the Alvin community. They were accompanied by Chester Buddy and Esther Sprague of Lamar, Nebraska."

Chester H. "Chet" Dodson, 93, of Cheyenne, died Jan. 20 at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne.
He was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Holyoke, Colo., and had lived here for the past 50 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He coached the American Legion baseball team, winning state titles in 1974 and 1976. He played horseshoes and cribbage and enjoyed camping and fishing.
Mr. Dodson worked for the city of Cheyenne Parks and Recreation division.
He is survived by a son, Gary Dodson of Centreville, Va.; daughter, Linda Bunch of Cheyenne; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen LaVonne (Vernon) Dodson; parents, Clarence and Ida Dodson; two brothers, Kenneth Dodson and Rudy Dodson; and a sister, Nellie Critchlow."

Helen LaVonne Dodson, 84, of Cheyenne, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne.
Mrs. Dodson was born August 3, 1926 in Portsmouth, Nebraska and had lived here since 1965.
She retired as a histologist from Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Dodson's family meant the world to her. She was a very good bowler which included winning the Colorado State Championship at one time. She and her husband Chet were avid baseball fans and were very involved in American Legion baseball as Chet coached for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Chester H. "Chet" Dodson of Cheyenne, whom she married over 60 years ago in Holyoke, Colorado; a son, Gary Dodson of Cheyenne; a daughter, Linda Bunch of Cheyenne; a brother, Clint Vernon of Cheyenne; three grandchildren, Chad Bunch of Washington, Kevin Bunch of Denver, Colorado, and Cassandra Ebsen of Cheyenne; two great grandchildren, Emily Bunch of Washington and Tyler Bunch of Denver; and one great grandson on the way, Dillon Bunch.
Mrs. Dodson was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dora (Carpenter) Vernon; three brothers, Al, Wallace, and Don Vernon; and a sister, Wilma Holman.
NELLIE

December 27, 1923 Wray " Mr. Will Long of Yuma and Miss Nellie Dodson of Alvin were united in the holy bonds of wedlock last Saturday by Dr. D. A. Brown at the Brown home in this city."

February 1935 "W. E. Long, the Yuma county farmer who swallowed Lewis lye accidentally, several weeks ago, has pneumonia, according to information given The Rattler by Chas. Dodson. Mr. Long was taken to the Colorado General hospital at Denver for treatment some days ago and he was getting along satisfactorily until pneumonia developed. His condition was quite critical several days ago when The Rattler received a report from his bedside."

"Nellie Long Critchlow of Holyoke passed away on January 13, 2001 at the age of 94.
Nellie was born on June 14, 1906 in Kerwin, Kansas to Charles John Dodson and Ida May Carpenter.
Nellie always lived a full and active life to include helping friends and family. Nellie presided as Activities Director for many years at SunSet View apartments. She loved to garden, play cards and dance. She traveled extensively and was an avid Cheyenne Frontier Days and Western Stockshow patron. Nellie loved her life in Denver, working, living and eating in the hotels, going to shows, the dog races and dances. Her motto was "To work hard and to play hard."
Preceding Nellie in death were her husband William Long and daughters Velda Long and Leota Long.
Surviving Nellie Critchlow are son Forest Long and his wife Joan of Holyoke; brothers Rudy Dodson of Lakewood, Chester Dodson and his wife Helen of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Kenneth Dodson and his wife Doeine of Commerce City; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Nellie were held January 17, 2001 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Jim Mort officiating."
