Dallas Caldwell, better known to his family and friends as "Dally," the son of Lanche and Lula Kiehl Caldwell, was born Jan 17, 1919, in Walnut Township, Jewell County, Kansas. He died Nov, 13, 1989 in Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital, Superior at the age of 70 years, 10 month, 27 days.
He grew up in the Burr Oak area and helped his father in the dairying business, trucking and farming. As a child, he delivered milk with a horse and cart. In 1937 he graduated from Burr Oak High School. Following high school he worked for H D Taylor Construction Company as a bridge foreman. Dec 20, 1941, he was united in marriage to Rosie Schneider at WaKeeney, Kansas, to this union were born two children, a daughter, Sharon and a son Michael. Mr and Mrs. Caldwell lived at Norton, Kansas for a short time before moving to Houston, Texas, where he worked with Brown Construction Company doing road construction and then he began his career as a soil conservation contractor.
In 1947 the family moved to Burr Oak where he began his own business working in a wide area of south central Nebraska and north central Kansas.
In 1951, he purchased a farm northwest of Burr Oak where he raised a family and lived until the time of his death. He took pride in farming, his horses and cattle; frequently he could be seen on horseback, checking his cattle with Bud, his dog. Often his wife would accompany him in checking their cattle and fences.
He was a life long member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church.
His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife, Rosie; daughter, Mrs. Gary Dierking (Sharon), Manhattan; son, Michael Caldwell, Burr Oak; sisters, Mrs. Art DeSelms (Evelyn) of Topeka and Mrs. Elton Loomis (Wilma) of Lakeview, Ark.; grandchildren, Mrs. Tom Bartlett (Angela) of 29 Palms, Calif., Tanya Dillon of Manhattan and Marc and Matt Caldwell both of Burr Oak; great granddaughter, Cassondra Bartlett, 29 Palms, Calif.; and many other relatives. The funeral was Thursday, Nov 16, 1989 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, Burr Oak, with the Rev Cindy Watson Drennen the officiant. Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Funeral services for Wilma C. Loomis of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be private.
Wilma Loomis died Thursday, April 1, 2010 in the Gassville Nursing Center, at the age of 94. She was born October 26, 1915 in Holyoke, CO, the daughter of Lanche and Lula Kiehl Caldwell. She married Elton L. Loomis on December 21, 1940 at Russell, Kansas and was a teacher. Wilma lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas since 1977 moving from Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Wilma Loomis is survived by one son, John V. Loomis of Boynton Beach, FL; a daughter-in-law, Gena Loomis of Valparaiso, IN and one grandson, Ian Loomis of Valparaiso, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 sons, Lynn C. Loomis and Elton L. Loomis, Jr.
Entombment will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum.
