Sylvia Emeline (Bonger) Bruner was born March 28, 1908 to Christopher H. and Alta Leora (Cox) Bonger in McCook, Nebraska. She died December 15, 2007 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, just a few months shy of her 100th birthday.
Sylvia began her first two years of school at the Thomas School 25 miles southeast of Holyoke and then attended Holyoke schools through the eighth grade.
Sylvia married Silas Edgar Bruner in McCook, Nebraska November 25, 1925. To this union four children were born, Ruby, Irene, Lola and Silas.
Sylvia loved sewing, making her own patterns; cooking, baking especially pies; and gardening. Sylvia and Silas made their first home in a sod house on the Nebraska state line near Lamar, Nebraska. She spent most of her life in the Holyoke and Amherst area. Sylvia was a baptized member of the Baptist church and belonged to the extension club for many years.
Sylvia worked for Speer Cushion Company, but found she really loved home health care. She was referred to as the "angel of Holyoke."
She took care of others at night so their families could sleep during the night and take care of their loved ones during the day. An experienced nurse of over 50 years stated, "She was the best in caring for elderly and sick. She made a big impression in my heart and I loved her." Sylvia and Silas spent their lives working and caring for others.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Silas, parents Christopher and Alta Bonger and one sister Mernia Taylor Ball.
She is survived by daughters Ruby Schlup of Sundance, Wyoming, Irene Beeler of Denver and Lola and husband Lee Matoush of Colorado Springs; son Silas and Janice Bruner of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren; 15 great grand children; and five great great grandchildren.
The funeral service was held December 21 at First Baptist Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Gordon Penfold officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park. Baucke Funeral Home of Holyoke directed the service.
Irene L. Beeler, 90, of Denver, passed away July 9, 2019.
She was born July 2, 1929 in Imperial, Nebraska, the daughter of Silas and Sylvia (Bonger) Bruner. She was a graduate of Holyoke High School in Holyoke, CO in 1947.
On April 20, 1952, she married Horace George Beeler.
Irene was a member of Landmark Tabernacle. Irene enjoyed listening to music and traveling. In her earlier years, she also enjoyed dancing.
Irene is survived by daughter, Barbara Ochsendorf; step-daughter, Patti (Robert) Reid; two grandchildren, Justin (Valerie) Ochsendorf and J.P. (Kristen) Puma; 3 great-grandchildren with 1 great-grandchild on the way; four step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Schlup and Lola Matoush; brother, Silas (Jan) Bruner; friend, Aida (Zach) Chams-Eddine and her son, Omar and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She is preceded in death by husband, Horace G. Beeler; father, Silas V. Bruner and mother, Sylvia Bruner.
