October 1935 " Charley Bates wa3 called to Franklin, Neb., Wednesday evening on account of the serious illness of his brother, Frank Bates. He had an operation for appendicitis."

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Wray Saturday afternoon at two o'clock for Charles A. Bates. The Rev. G. Arland Johnson officiated and the service was followed by interment at Grandview cemetery.
Charles Acres Bates, a resident of this area since 1931, died at the Wray Community hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1959. At the time of his death he was 57 years, four months and eight days old. He was born on June 5, 1902, at Smith Center. Kan. On April 5, 1923. he was married to Vida A. Reed of Franklin, Neb. They came to Colorado in 1931 and made their home on a farm in the Alvin community where they lived until 1944 when they moved to Wray. They continued their residence here until Mr. Bates' death.
Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bates. They are Arthur Bates of Grand Junction, Twila Smith of Holyoke, and Ethel Penton of Derby.
Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Vida; his children, Arthur and wife Dorothy, Ethel and husband, George Penton, and Twila and husband, Bob Smith; one sister, Lavern Beach of Franklin, Neb.; one brother, B. F. Bates, of Montrose; and four grandchildren."

Ora Ellen Bracher Terrill BIRTH 13 Oct 1909 Smith County, Kansas, DEATH 30 Oct 2003 (aged 94) Montrose, Montrose County, Colorado, BURIAL Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown MEMORIAL ID 93911662.
Ora Ellen Terrill, a very talented homemaker and resident of Montrose, died Thursday evening, Oct. 30, 2003, at the Montrose Memorial Hospital, 17 days after celebrating her 94th birthday.
Ora Ellen Bracher was born in Smith County, Kan., on Oct. 13, 1909, the daughter of Hardy and Geneva (McCartney) Bracher. Ora grew up in Franklin, Neb., where she graduated from Franklin High School and grew to adulthood.
She married Frank Bates, who preceded her in death. Ora married Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Terrill in Helena, Montana. Ben preceded Ora in death in 1980 at Montrose.
She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Montrose. Ora served her Lord as a Sunday school teacher for 27 years.
In her younger years, Ora enjoyed riding horses. She also enjoyed collecting rocks and dolls. She loved raising pigs, having her own garden and feeding her family from her garden. Ora was an avid seamstress. She sewed many of her children's clothing including suits using her own patterns. Her children and grandchildren held a very special place in her heart and life. Ora passed away peacefully in the arms of God. She died as beautifully as she lived. Cherished memories of this beautiful, precious lady will always be a part of those who loved her.
Survivors who were greatly honored to share in Ora's life include nine children, 54 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, and two sisters.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, Ora was also preceded in death by nine children.
At Ora's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life was held Monday, Nov. 3, at the family home in Montrose.

"Robert Bates, 76, of Long Branch, New Jersey, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was born in Franklin, Neb. and lived in Montrose, Colo. before moving to Long Branch in 1961. He was a machine operator for Dart Industries in Eatontown before retiring. He was a member of the Elks, VFW, LBCC and St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Long Branch. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Predeceased by his wife, Patricia Dumas Bates on Dec. 28, 2010; his parents, Benjamin and Ora Bates; and his step-father, Benjamin Terrell; his 11 brothers and sisters; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Jennie Dumas; and his brother-in-law, Raymond Dumas Jr. Surviving are his children, Gina Marie and her husband Jon Faine, Robert Bates Jr., and Jodi and her husband Mark Weyhknecht, all of Long Branch and two grandsons, Mark Jr. and James Weyhknecht; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Kathleen Dumas and Mary and Howard Kingsley; and two nieces, Danielle and Kristen; and his seven brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Funeral service 10 a.m. Friday, March 11 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Broadway, Long Branch. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. "

WINSTON

"Winston D. Bates, 26, and his passenger, John A. Schmidt, 21, died in a four-fatality head-on collision on Pacheco Pass Highway over the weekend. Also killed in the accident were driver John Mehia Jr. 44, of Fresno, and his passenger, Joe Briamo Mehia, 41, Fremont. All were taken to a Gilroy hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. The crash occurred Saturday evening when Bates' westbound car reportedly drifted into the eastbound lane of a curve 2,000 feet east of the division and had been driving erratically, often on the wrong side of the highway, for at least two miles before his pickup ran across the dividing strip and into the Pattee car."
