February 1933 " Mrs. August Banaka left Thursday evening for Netawaukee, Kan., to attend the funeral of her father, Sam Thomas."

April 1933 "Miss Jennie Oman and brother, Herbert, gave a party to their friends Saturday evening. Those present were the Misses Erma and Ula Ranum, Haziel Irvine, Ollie Fincher, Thelma Banaka, Anna Oman, Clara Likens, Sylvia Fincher, and Howard Fuller, Harvey Nichols, Jesse Lewis, Charley Williams, Paul Fincher, Pat Ethridge and Harold Banaka. Lunch was served by the hostess and all left at a late hour reporting a wonderful time. " (Jennie was my mother, Herbert an uncle, and Annie an aunt.)

" Harold Banaka spent the week end with his teacher, Miss Anna Oman. "

August 1945 "Mr. L. G. Woodring was the guest of honor at a surprise birthday dinner on Sunday, Aug. 12, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Banaka. Mr. Woodring celebrated his 90th birthday on that date and the affair was given in honor of the event. A fine dinner was served and the day spent in a pleasant social manner. Those present were the guest of honor, Mr. L. J. Woodring, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ethridge, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ethridge and children, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ethridge and children, Mr. Jess Woodring and the host and hostess. The Rattler also joins his many friends in extending congratulations to Mr. Woodring on being 90 years young."

Wray, July 1957 "In a deal made this week with Harald Bettex as agent, the Clayton Auble residence at 806 Dexter street was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Banaka of Omaha who plan to establish their residence in Wray. The Aubles, who came down from their cabin at Frisco to complete the business deal, are moving their household goods to Denver and will give immediate possession. The Banakas are the parents of Mrs. Harold Ethridge of Wray. Until about ten years ago they lived in the north part of this county. Mr. Banaka is a brother of Pete Banaka."

"Funeral services were held Friday, December 14, 1973, from the First United Methodist Church, Hoquiam, Washington, for Donald Banaka, former Holyoke resident, who passed away Monday, December 10, in a Seattle hospital.
Donald V. Banaka, 46, a Hoquiam resident for the past three years, was born September 11, 1927 in Alvin, Colorado. He attended school in Colorado and was married to Barbara Martin in Yuma County. He had worked at Grays Harbor Veneer in Hoquiam during World War II and returned to Colorado following the war.
He had been active in farming and custom farm work before returning to Hoquiam in 1970. He was affiliated with his brother Walter in Banaka Brothers Trucking after returning to Harbor. They did most of their work for Interstate Asphalt Co. He had been retired the past year because of illness.
He was a member of the Washington Dump Truckers Association and the Teamsters Chauffeurs Local No. 699, Hoquiam.
Besides his wife Barbara at the family home, 528 Karr Ave., he is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean and Becky Sue and a son Jerry Lee, all of Hoquiam; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Alta) Winter, Hoquiam, Mrs. Norman (Marjorie) Miner, Wapoto; and Mrs. Walter (Ethel) Jones, Salem, Oregon; two brothers, Walter, Hoquiam, and Harold W., Holyoke, and numerous other relatives."


"Mrs. Henrietta Els, aged seventy-six, died Monday night, January 24 at the home of her son Henry Els in the Cement neighborhood. Mrs. Els had been a resident of this state for a number of years and had made her home with her son. Short funeral services will be held at Holyoke with another service and interment at her old home in Missouri. Mrs. Els is survived by three children, Henry, Carl of Wray, and Mrs. Sophia Krautchen of north of Wray."

February 1944 "H. H. Banaka received a message Monday night that his mother, Mrs. Els of near Alvin had passed away. The remains were taken to Kansas for burial. We extend our sincre sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Banaka. "

December 21, 1961 "Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Lockwood Mortuary for H. H. (Pete) Banaka, a resident of north of Wray since 1919, who died at his farm home Tuesday of last week. The Rev. Willis C. Wirehart officiated at the funeral service that was followed by burial in Grandview cemetery.
Hugo Henry Banaka was born on August 3, 1889, at Netawaka. Kansas. In 1918 he came to Wray and bought a farm north of Wray. On December 28, 1918, he was married to Minnie Dachenhausen at Topeka, Kan., and the couple came here the following year to establish their home. Mr. Banaka continued his residence on the place until his death. Mrs. Banaka died in 1951.
The couple were the parents of two children, a boy who died in infancy, and a daughter. Mrs. Lorene Mattox of Denver. Besides his daughter, survivors include one granddaughter, Diane; a brother, William Banaka of Wray; a sister, Mrs. Sophia Krautschen of Denver; two half-sisters, Mrs. Caroline Enyeart of Toppenish, Wash., and Mrs. Louise Morelli of St. Louis, Mo., and three half-brothers, Carl Els of Max, Neb., Henry Els of Wray, and Fred Els of Topeka. Kan. "
