May 13, 1910 "Sam Arnold and wife are the parents of a baby boy born to them Monday, May 9th, at the Roush residence."

July 1910 "Mrs. Linda of McCook Nebr., who has been visiting her son, Sam Arnold, in the Sand Hills returned home Monday on No. 10. "

September 1910 " Sam Arnold's mother of McCook has filed land near him and her daughter, Lynn, has entered the senior class in the Wray schools."

October 1911 "A bunch from the Valley consisting of the Misses Lyn and Luclle Arnold, Sue McNue and Kate Hitchcock, the Messrs. George and Evan Garten, Oliver Goodwin, Will Schelley and Sam Arnold, went over to the Rose brothers to a dance Saturday night. Returning by Evan Gartens they did justice to chicken, hot biscuits and chicken gravy. "

November 21, 1912 "A brand new girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Arnold Monday."


1912 Wray "In justice court, before Justice W. J. Weller, was tried the case of the People vs. Samuel Arnold and William Burke, defendants. The defendants are charged with alleged larceny, for stealing a house located on a claim 20 miles north of town, by James Carwin complaining witness, who had charge of the property belonging to Mrs. Plattney and Mrs. Laustrop, and he states he caught the defendants in the act. The court adjourned until after the ball game, in order that all parties interested might have the opportunity of attending the game. At five o'clock the court resumed proceedings and after listening to the testimony, bound both defendants over to the district court under bonds in the sum of $100 each. The defendants furnished the bonds and returned home. The defence is made that they had permission to take the house from a party who has papers on the land."
The charge was dismissed in 1913.

May 1913 "Ladies Dress Making at home. See Mrs. Sam Arnold, two blocks west and three blocks south of the postoffice. "

1913 Wray

August 1913 "Miss Katherine Church of Kansas City is expected to arrive in Wray Saturday from Denver and the mountains where she has been enjoying a vacation being engaged as a high school instructor. Miss Church is a sister of Mrs. Ssm Arnold snd will stop off a few days before her return to Kansas City."

October 1913 "Mrs. Sam Arnold and four children will leave this evening for a visit of three or four weeks with Mrs. Arnold's brother, James Church and family who live on a ranch a few miles from Burlington, Kansas. Mrs. Arnold's mother of Kansas City is also visiting in the Church home and the three will enjoy a visit together."

November 1913 "Will Church, who had been visiting his sister, Mrs. Sam Arnold and family for the past two weeks, returned to his home near Arapahoe, Nebraska [wonder if this is Arapahoe, Cheyenne County, Colorado ...] last evening. Mr. Church was accompanied by Mr. Arnold who goes to collect a herd of two hundred cattle which he will drive through and will take to his homestead several miles north of Wray for feeding through the winter. Mr. Church will return with him."

Samuel registered for WWI in Culbertson, Nebraska, born February 6, 1879, a mechanic.

December 1913 "First class meals at the restaurant of Mrs. J. A. Bruce, successor to Mrs. Sam Arnold."

March 1914 "Cloyd Cheney and Miss Francis Church were married in Burlington on Monday, March 9. The bride's home has been in Burlington but she had been making her home with her sister, Mrs. Sam Arnold of north of town. The groom is a well known Wray boy, having lived here all his life. He has been associated with his father on the latter's ranch northeast of Wray. Mr. and Mrs. Cheney will make their home on the Cheney ranch. Their many friends extend best wishes and cocongratulations in which the Gazette joins."


April 1915 "Mrs. E. M. Church of Kansas City, arrived Monday for a visit with her daughters, Mrs. Cloyd Cheney and Mrs. Sam Arnold."

1915 Northside items in the Wray Gazette " Sam Arnold caught the largest and oldest coyote that has been taken in this part. It must have been the band master of the gang and the one that has made life miserable for Lew Corwin."

Samuel proved up a quarter in sections 16, 5N 43W in 1916.

March 1917 "Ray Wells moved out to his homestead which is located about twelve miles northeast of town, Monday. A few months ago he purchased the Sam Arnold farm in the same locality and will go in for farming and stock raising for the next few years."

February 1917 "Margaret Arnold, the eleven year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Arnold, is quite ill with pneumonia but is reported to be somewhat improved this morning."

November 1934 " Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schelly and daughter Elaine went to Denver Tuesday to spend Thanksgiving at the home of Mrs. Schelly's sister, Mrs. K. K. Haas. The mother of the two ladies Mrs. Arnold, and Mr Sam Arnold a brother, will also come to Denver from Casper, Wyoming, for a reunion of the family."

June 1935 "Mrs. Wm. Schelly received word this week that her brother, Sam Arnold and daughter, of Cushing, Okla., had gone to Guide Rock, Neb., to take their mother, Mrs. Linda Arnold back to Oklahoma in the hopes that her health will be benefitted by the change."

Mrs. Linda Arnold, 74, widely known former resident of this county, and the mother of Mrs. Sue Schelly of Wray, expired at the home of a daughter at Wichita Falls, Texas, Monday, July 20, 1935. Mrs. Arnold spent last winter in Wray with Mr. and Mrs. Schelly. She became ill last spring and was taken to Texas in the hope that the change in altitude would be beneficial for her. Mr. and Mrs. Schelly left Monday for Cushing, Okla., where funeral services were to be held. Mrs. Schelly returned only recently from Texas where she visited her mother. Mrs. Arnold was well known in this county. She has resided in thi3 locality at different times and at one time homesteaded north of Wray. Mr. Arnold died several years ago. Besides Mrs. Schelly of Wray, Mrs. Arnold is survived by the following children: Sam Arnold of Cushing, Okla., Lucile Hendrix of Wichita Falls, Texas, Louis Arnold of Casper, Wyo., Carrie Haas of Denver and Lynne O’Brien of Seattle, Wash.

August 1937 " Mrs. Sue Schelly was called to Cushing, Okla., last Friday by the critical illness of her brother, Sam Arnold. Mrs. Schelly accompanied another brother who resides at Cheyenne and who came this way after Mrs. Schelly. "

September 1937 " Mrs. Wm. Schelly and her brother Mr. Lewis Arnold, returned last Saturday from Cushing, Okla., where they had been visiting their brother Sam Arnold. Mr. Lewis Arnold went on to his home in Casper, Wyo. "
