In 1900 Lancaster County, Nebraska, Gerhart is 44, and Minnie 40 have Samuel 18, William 16, Peter 14, Frederick 11, John 9 and Annie 3.

Gerhart and Minnie are in Larimer County 1910, 1920, and 1940, and Minnie died June 30, 1945 in Orange County, born May 22, 1860 in Wisconsin, father Rahn.

Grace Cora Tyner, born Aug 1885 in Lancaster County Nebraska (same as Pearl Clark !)

October 1909 Pleasant Valley items (their claim was five miles southeast of the Pleasant Valley Church) "George Waters, Will Mathesen, Raymond Marshal, A. J. Carper and Mrs. Jiog are all erecting new barns."

In 1910 Magee precinct, Yuma County, William 26 born in Nebraska, Grace C. 24 Nebraska, have Mildred G. 4 Nebraska, and Lee E. 2, Colorado.

September 2, 1910 the Pioneer reported that a son weighing 13 pounds was recently born to Mr. and Mrs. Mathiesen of Waverly.

March 1911 "Mr. G.C. Mathiesen and daughter Anna of Fort Collins have been visiting his son  Will the past week.

Wm. G. Mathiesen proved up a quarter in 21, 4N 46W in 1913, so the Pleasant Valley cemetery would be the closest - five miles - for burial of their son.

May 23, 1913 "Dr. Miller reports the arrival of a baby boy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mathiesen, north of town, last Thursday."

June 1913 "The infant son of Wm. Mathieson is sick at the present writing."

July 1913 "The infant son of William Mathieson, who was reported quite sick last week, is slowly improving."

William G. Mathiesen registered with a Fort Collins address, born Nov 2, 1883, wife Grace Cora Mathiesen, farming.

In 1920 they're in Larimer County, William 35, Grace C. 33, Mildred 13, Lea E. 12, Willard L. 6, Velma 5, and Mariel 4.

1921  Fort Collins "Mrs. Will Mathiesen came in from the country Saturday to spend the day with Mrs. S.C. Mathiesen."

1923 "Mrs. Rex Winders and three children and three children of Lincoln Nebraska, are visiting at the home of Mrs. Winders sister, Mrs. Will Mathiesen of Laporte.  Mrs. and Mrs. Mathiesen also have as their guests Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Tyner of Grand Island, Nebraska, Mrs. Tyner being a brother of Mrs. Mathiesen."

William and Grace are in Boulder County in 1940, with Mildred, 34.

John was single when registering for WWI, living at Carr, Weld County Colorado, working for his father.

In 1923 Oakland, California, John was involved in a minor auto accident, with the other vehicle driven by his cousin Peter Mathiesen.

September 1931 Greeley "Sam Mathieson of Carr and John Mathiesen of Los Angeles, Calif., made a business trip to Denver Monday. "

John married Nettie C. Jones December 2, 1932 (That's confirmed by the official marriage books) in Oakland, Alameda County, California.

John, a brakeman, and Nettie are in Berkeley, California in 1940, living alone.

John Albert Mathiesen enrolled for WWII in Berkeley, California, born October 12, 1890 in Greenleaf, working for the Southern Pacific, wife Nettie C. Mathieson. 

1907 Adventist "Miss Nettie Cornell, of Ottawa, Kans., has accepted a position as stenographer in the Central Union Conference."

Nettie Cornell was in Walla Walla in 1930, a teacher at the college.

Nettie C. (Cornell) Mathiesen born May 24, 1885 in Kansas, died Jan 30, 1982 in San Joaquin County, mother's maiden name Witherspoon.

In 1947 Calexico, California, John A. and Nettie C. Mathiesen live at 336 E. 3rd.

Mathiesen, Dr. Merrill Duane 'Bud'   11/17/1915 04/09/2009 Merrill was born on the family homestead in Colorado, the sixth of seven children born to William and Grace. He never outgrew his love of hard work and farm chores. After graduating from Champion Academy in Nebraska, he hitchhiked to California's La Sierra College. There he met Viola Marie Steinert and majored in theology and the pre-medical course. He worked his way through school as a busboy and assembling wartime planes. He married Viola on Dec. 6, 1941 - the night before Pearl Harbor. He completed his medical training through the U.S. Army at Loma Linda's College of Medical Evangelists in 1948. Now the proud father of Nelson and Judy, the family moved to Portland. After internship at Portland Sanitarium, he shared a medical practice with his brother, Willard, until being drafted into the Air Force during the Korean War. While serving at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, he delivered nearly 2000 "baby boomers" during his two years of obstetrical-gynecological training. After his military service, Merrill returned to a very busy obstetrical and family practice where he thought each and every baby he delivered was the "cutest one." He enjoyed surprising his co-workers with homemade ice cream and berries or pie on any occasion. With his nonstop energy, he loved to ski, jog, hunt, fish, backpack and help family, friends and church. He passionately studied the Bible and spent many decades teaching a class at his church. He retired at 70, and in 2000, he and Viola moved from their longtime home near Mt. Tabor to Somerset Lodge in Gladstone. "Dr. Merrill" is affectionately remembered as a gracious, compassionate and generous friend. He is survived by Viola, his wife of 67 years; son, Nelson; daughter, Judy; three grandsons; one granddaughter; three step-grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. A private military committal service will be in Willamette National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Sunnyside Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Portland Adventist Hospice and Portland Adventist Community Services. Funeral arrangements by Gresham Memorial Chapel.
