Charles R. and Elsie (Eyestone) Hirsch, Pleasant Valley

Robert Sigmond Hirsch was born 1849 in Ladenburg, Mannheim, Baden Germany, died in Gresham , Nebraska. He married Louisa Jane HITCHCOCK on Jul 1877, daughter of ROBERT HENRY HITCHCOCK and ADELINE NEWTON.

ROBERT S. HIRSCH, M.D., druggist, Ulysses, came to Nebraska in 1873; settled at Seward, where he followed his profession a little over one year, when he went to Polk County, and took up a homestead.  Here he remained improving his farm and practicing until August, 1879, then removed to Ulysses, and in the spring following, started in the drug business, and is now the pioneer druggist of the town.  Was born in Ladenburg, Germany, January 28, 1849, emigrated to the United States in June, 1867.  Is a member of A, F. & A. M., Franklin Lodge, No. 447, of New York City; also I.O.O.F. Ulysses Lodge, No. 68

In 1885 Polk County, Nebraska, Robert Hirsch is 36, Louisa 26, with Elizabeth 15,(This is probably a census error - Elizabeth being the daughter of the household head.  The census even has Robert as the wife of the head), Charles 7, Julius 4, L. 2, and Albert five months.

 

A fragment of an obituary, possibly from the Omaha, Nebraska newspaper.  Herman J. Hirsch, druggist, died at his home Sunday. He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Leonard A. Clapper of Omaha and Marcia June Hirsch of Council Bluffs; two sons, Mark Krogh Hirsch and Byron David Hirsch, of Council Bluffs; three brothers, Charles R. Hirsch of Kearney, Neb., Otto J. Hirsch of Stromsburg, Neb., and Adolph A. Hirsch of Sacramento, Calif., and two grandchildren.

The body will be in state at the residence from 10 a.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday.  Funeral services will be held at the Kountze Memorial church Wednesday at 2p.m.  Burial will be in the Springwell cemetery. The Crosby funeral home will be in charge of the service.

Louise Jane, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Hitchcock, born June 25, 1859, in the state of Illinois died at her home in Weabealu, Mo., Nov. 14, 1925, 64 years, 4 mos. 19 days.  In her early girlhood days she came with her parents to the state of Nebraska, her father taking a homestead about 7 miles east of Gresham Nebraska, here she lived and grew to womanhood.

In the month of July 1877 she was married to Robert Sigman Hirsch, M.D. who was a practicing physician in Gresham, Ne. later moving to Seward, Ne.  To this union were born 8 children, 2 daughters and 6 sons.  Harry passed away at age of 10 years and Bert who lived to manhood and had a family of 2 children passed away since the death of his father.  She united with the Methodist church in Gresham, April 11, 1920, coming by letter from another church. She retained her membership there until her death.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebecca lodges of Gresham.

She and her husband, Dr. R.S. Hirsch were early settlers of this community (Gresham) and she being sturdy and hard working, kept the family farm work going and her husband took care of his medical practice, which was very large and in the days when travel was slow as compared with today's method.

A few years ago Dr. Hirsch passed away and later she married Mr. Wm. B. Couch with who she was getting comfortably situated when the sudden summons came.  She leaves to mourn the mother's vacant chair, one daughter Mrs. S.O. Harris (Nell) wife of Dr. S.O. Harris of Gresham, Nebraska, four sons, Charles Hirsch of Polk, Nebr., Herman J. of Talmadge, Nebr. and Adolph A. of Sacramento, Calif.  Two sisters, Mrs. John Hirschmiller Farnam, Nebr., Mrs. Julia Young of California and one brother, Wm. Hitchcock of Lincoln, Ne.  A number of grandchildren and her late husband, Wm. G. Couch of Weabealu, Mo.  Her body was brought back to Gresham, and her funeral was conducted from the M.E. church, the pastor, Rev. J.W. Henderson, officiating, after which she was laid to rest beside her former husband, Dr. R.S. Hirsch in the beautiful cemetery of Gresham, Nebr.

In 1900 Polk County, Nebraska, Harmon A. Eyestone born Feb 1855 in Ohio, married 24 years to Amanda M. March 1858 Illinois, have Myrtle L. Feb 1880 Illinois, Elsie Oct 1882 Illinois, and Harmon April 1886 Neb, Gertrude E. March 1888 Neb, Flossy A. Oct 1889 Neb, Leo H.  daughter March 1891 Neb, Edward E. Oct 1893 Neb, Royal D. Nov 1897 Neb, and Blanche O. Jan 1900 Neb.  Robert , son born Nov 1877 is the next household.

One tree said Elsie was a twin of Earnest, born and died October 10, 1882.

Charles R. Hirsch age 25, married Elsie Eyestone, about 21, born Champaign County, Illinois, April 3, 1904 in York, Nebraska.

1908 "Dr. R.S. Hirsch, who enjoys the largest practise (sic) of Gresham, Neb., visited the fore part of the week at the home of his son, C.R. Hirsch."

Charley Hirsch was a witness for the land claim of Harmon G. Eyestone in 1908.

1909   So Charles was an auctioneer.

1909 "Mrs. C.R. Hirsch and two children, Vern and Violet, returned Saturday from a visit to Mrs. Hirsch's people in York county, ebraska.

In 1910 Magee precinct, Charles . is 32, born in Nebraska, married six years to Elsie 27, Illinois. They have Vivian V. 4 Nebraska, and Violet 2, Colorado. In 1911 "Charlie" Hirsch was a member of the Waverly debate team of three.

November 1911 "Chas Hirsch left Saturday for eastern Nebraska, where he will make his home."

Charles proved up a quarter in 25, 4N 47W in 1912, witnesses Hadley E. Railsback, Calvin H. Casey, Robert E. Eyestone and Addiss E. Cabeen, all of Yuma..

In 1920 Valley County, Nebraska, Charles R. is farming, 41, Elsie 37, Verne 14, Violet I. 11, Hazel N, 9, born in Colorado, Oliver L. 7, Kenneth 5, and Harold R. two months were born in Nebraska.  Grace Cabeen 35 is a hired girl, born in Iowa.  (may be related to Addis Cabeen)

Elsie is in Kearney, Nebraska in 1930, a laundress, 47, with Olive 17, Kenneth 15, and Harold 10.  Married but no spouse.

Charles is an insurance agent in 1930 Holdrege Nebraska, one of three lodgers with the August Malone family.  He's listed as married.

Elsie, 57, widowed,  is living with Vern and Harold in Shannon County, South Dakota in 1940.  Vern is a farm agent for the Indian Bureau, Harold no occupation.  All three were in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1935.

Elsie E. Hirsch, born Oct 10, 1882 in Illinois, died April 4, 1962 in Santa Clara County, California, mother's maiden name Lucan.

Findagrave # 33071865 has her buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Gresham, Nebraska.

VERN

Vern V. Hirsch, born Dec 5, 1905, died Oct 29 1988 in Malheur Oregon, spouse Annabell.

VIOLET

Violet divorced Otto B. Barth in Los Angeles in June 1974, and died in King County Washington May 8, 1985.

HAZEL

In 1930 Hazel is teaching in Lincoln County Nebraska, and Alaska marriage records have Hirsch, Hazel - William B Muir 01 Feb 1939 Seward AK

Hazel Muir died August 30, 1988 in Edmonds, Washington.

Hazel 1910-1988 and William Muir 1913-2001 are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Jefferson County Washington  # 12828232.

OLIVE

Olive is a teacher in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska in 1940, single, boarding with the Carl and Helen Gill family.

Ancestry thinks Olive H. Muzzy born July 25, 1912  dying Nov 15, 2000, is the same one.

KENNETH

Kenneth is in Oakland California in 1940, in Keith County Nebraska in 1935.  He's single, 33, a "collector",

California death index has him born April 12, 1914, dying Dec 27, 1982 in Alameda County, mother's maiden name Eyestone.

It also has Mildred Hirsch, 1917-1993 dying in Santa Clara County, mother Kazubal, father Vergo.

HAROLD

Harold enlisted in the Corps of Engineers in February 1941 in Rapid City, S.D. as a draftsman.

He died May 22, 1983 in Chicago.

EYESTONE

CALDWELL, Idaho - Services for Harmon C. Eyestone, 86, of 610 S. 16th Ave., Caldwell, who died Monday at a Caldwell hospital, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.  The Rev. Donald DeBoar of the Regular Baptist Church will officiate.  Interment will be at Canyon Hill Cemetery.
     He was born April 28, 1886 near Gresham, Neb., a son of Harmon A. and Amanda Luca Eyestone.  He was reared in Gresham and attended college at Kearney and York, Neb.  He homesteaded at Yuma, Colo.  He married Minda Mae Kirby Dec. 28, 1908 in York.  They lived in Tobias, Neb., where he engaged in the hardware business.  They later purchased a farm and moved to North Loup, Neb.  In 1923 they owned and operated a cattle ranch near Sargeant, Neb. until 1932, when they moved to Idaho.  They farmed in the Franklin community and he was treasurer and a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years at the Franklin Community Church.  He retired in 1956 and moved to his present home in Caldwell.  Mrs. Eyestone died in October, 1971 in Caldwell.
     He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caldwell.

 

CALDWELL - Mrs. Minda Mae Eyestone, 82, 8 April, 1889 - 9 October, 1971 of 610 S. 10th St., died Saturday at her home following an illness.
     She was born April 8, 1889, at Gresham, Neb., a daughter of T.J. and Sophia Worden Kirby.  She was reared and attended school at Gresham.  She was married to Harmon G. Eyestone on Dec. 28, 1908, at York, Neb.  They lived in Tobias, Neb., where Mr. Eyestone was engaged in the hardware business, and later bought a farm at North Loup, Neb.  They came to Idaho on Dec. 30, 1932.  They lived north of Nampa and farmed until 1956, when they retired.  They moved to Caldwell in 1966 and had lived there since.
     She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caldwell.
     Surviving in addition to her husband re two sons, Howard K. Eyestone, Caldwell, and Maynard M. Eyestone, Manila, the Philippines; four grandchildren and a niece, Mrs. Margaret Patterson, Vancouver, Wash.
     She was preceded by a brother and a sister.
     Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Flahiff
