John A. Blackman was her 1st husband. They were married about 1855
and he died July 3, 1862. Clark Burr was her 2nd husband. They were
married July 16, 1863 and he died November 17, 1870.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ethel Belle Boyles was born 9-27-1879 in Phillips, Kansas to William Boyels and Cynthia Emeline Pierce (Boyles). She married Gordon Burr 3-20-1901, and settled near Burlington, Colorado. Does my grandmother tie into anyone's research? Ethel Boyles (b.1879 Phillipsburg, KA) married Gordon Burr in 1901 in
Tuttle, CO. Ethel had at least 10 brothers and sisters, plus some
adopted siblings using the Boyles name. Several settled in the Kit
Carson co Colorado area near present Burlington, CO. Roy Boyles (a
brother to Ethel) was convicted of murder in the 1920's. There was also
a "Judge" Boyles in Burlington prior to 1910. Several in the clan were
simple, working cowboys. Does anyone tie into this part of the Boyles
family? I sure could use some help sorting out the history. Ethel was my

In April, 1929, Orval Lindburg was engaged in the business of selling
sand obtained from the McVane farm in Kit Carson county, under an
arrangement with Joe Boyles, who 'operated' the farm, and the defendant
was helping him. About Monday, the 29th, Lindburg disappeared. The day
Before that he was seen wearing overalls, a blue shirt, and tan shoes.
In the latter part of May a witness found one of Lindburg's tan shoes in
the field, in a direct line between the farm house and an old sand pit
located in a dry creek. This led to a search of the premises.
Lindburg's body was found buried in the old sand pit. A foot or two
above his body and parallel with it was the body of a dead hog. The
hog's body was covered with several feet of dirt and sand. The only
clothing on Lindburg's body consisted of underclothes, socks, and a blue
work shirt. There were marks on the body that might have been caused by
dragging the body over the ground. A medical witness testified that the
cause of death was a blow with a blunt instrument on the back of the
head at the base of the skull. Concealed in patches of weeds and among
ashes near the farm house were found overall buttons, square
shoe-eyelets, coat buttons, shirt buttons, suspender buttons, boot
nails, hat-eyelets, a Gem safety razor, a ring, a radiator petcock, and
a pipe ferule, some of which were identified as the property of Lindburg. |
In 1900 Kit Carson County, Ethel B. is with William N. Boyles, 56 and Cynthia 44. She was born September 1879 in Kansas, and has five younger siblings.
1902 "Miss Cecil Boyles who went to Tuttle on a visit to her sister, Mrs. G.G. Burr, on Thursday of last week returned home Tuesday."
In 1910 Kit Carson County Gordon is married nine years to Ethel B., 29 born in Kansas. They have Opal E., 8, Nellie Pnelopie, 7, and Gordon G. Jr. 4, the kids born in Colorado.
1910 "G.G. Burr has purchased the Lone Star livery barn from L.H. Bevier. Mr. Burr is an experienced horseman, and his many friends are glad to see him engage in this line of work."
In 1911 the Intermediate room in Kit Carson County had Opal Burr and Nellie Burr.
"For bargains in work horses and mares see G.G. Burr. He has just what you want."
Opal gave a recitation to the Daughters of Rebekah in 1911, and Mrs. Ethel Burr gave a reading, then Opal Burr gave an instrumental solo.

Gordon was a candidate for Kit Carson County commissioner in 1912.
1912 "the beginners class is composed of Roy Hess, Charlie Arny, Gordie Burr and Darline Ruddell."
In 1920 Kit Carson County they have Opal, 18, Nellie 16, Gordon 14, Billie 7, and Elsie 6.
In 1930 Kit Carson Gordon and Ethel have Nellie, William C. , Elsie G. 15, and Eldon C. 10. Gordon is a contractor for concrete buildings, Ethel is the deputy county clerk, and Nellie is the county clerk.
In 1940 Larimer County Gordon and Ethel are in Loveland, with no occupations. Charles E. 20 is a laborer in the sugar process.
One tree says Gordon Gay Burr died 1951 in Loveland, Colorado, and Ethel Belle (Boyles) born 1879 in Philips County, Kansas, died 1964 in Englewood, Colorado.

Another tree said Opal E. Burr married William Guy Prottsman from Iowa, and they had Helen Prottsman in 1923 in Colorado, dying in Chicago.
