James A. and Matilda (Morris) Kimber

In 1880 Putnam County, Illinois, Isaac R. Kimber 65 and Matilda 60, have James A. Kimber, 21. James A. Kimber cash-claimed a quarter in 33, 1N 43W in 1890, proved up another in 1893, and Maggie E. Kimber timber-claimed a quaret in 1895.

In 1900 Yuma County, James A. Kimber is farming, born Dec 1858 in Illinois, married 13 years to Maggie E. Jan 1859 Indiana. She's had five children, four living. Earl H. March 1889, Morris E. July 1890, Bertha J. Feb 1892, and James B. Sept 1898 were all born in Colorado.
In 1900 "Mrs. S. S. Merrit of Henry County, Illinois, is visiting the families of J.A. Kimber and C.W. Zepp. Mrs. Merrit is a sister of Mrs. Faulkner and Mr. Kimber.
1901 "Mrs. Walbridge of Crab Orchard, Nebraska, arrived Wednesday morning for a visit with her sister, Mrs. J.A. Kimber."
1907 "Mrs. Faulkner, a sister of Jas. Kimber, arrived in Wray yesterday for a visit. Mrs. Faulkner is the mother of Mrs. J.W. Zepp, who formerly resided in Wray."

1911 "Mrs. J.A. Kimber, who was operated on for a tumor at a hospital in Missouri some time ago, is reported as recovering very nicely.

He was a member of the Lakewood Community Methodist church and IOOF. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Doris S. Kimber: a sister. Mrs Bertha Fike, of Long Beach, and a brother. Earl, of Seattle, Wash. In 1910 West Wray precinct (on the Idalia road) James Kimber and Maggie are 51, with Earl H. 21, Bertha 18, and James B. 11.
1916 "Walter Kimber and wife of St. Paul, Nebraska arrived in Wray Tuesday and are guests of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. James Kimber ,southeast of town."

In 1930 James is living in Wray, widowed, and Ora E. Rice, 60, born in Iowa, is a housekeeper.
James Abrams Kimber 1858-1943 # 74158833 and Margeret E. McKee Kimber 1859-1926 are buried in Wray.
Clarence McKee Kimber 1887-1896 # 81578636 is buried in Wray. Bertha J. (Kimber) Fike married Eli Benjamin Fike Jul 30, 1911 in Colorado.

James Bernard Kimber 1898-1948 married Esther Marguerite Cassin May 5, 1922 in Wray, Colorado.




Johnson County Nebraska "Mrs. Walbridge's sister, Mrs. Kimber of Wray, Colorado, who came two weeks ago, is still here. "

Susan Eliza McKee1 was born on 16 Jan 1850 at Decatur, Indiana.2 She was married to Philo Walbridge, son of James WALBRIDGE and Sophia Unknown, on 1 Sep 1868 at Cedar, Iowa by J. W. Knot, M.G.. Philo is listed as Philip in the marriage index.3,4
She and Philo Walbridge appeared on the census of 7 Jul 1870 at Mechnicsville, P.O., Pioneer, Cedar, Iowa; Philo, 24, farmer, real estate=$1680, personal estate=$765; Eliza, 19, keeping house. At home was Winnifred, 1.5
She and Philo Walbridge removed to a farm south of Crab Orchard, Johnson, Nebraska, in 1880.6 They appeared on the census of 9 Jun 1880 at Vesta, Johnson, Nebraska; Philo, 35, farmer, born Iowa, mother born Vermont; Eliza, 30, keeping house, born Indiana, father born Kentucky, mother Virginia. At home were: Fred, 11; Earnest, 9; Blanch, 8; Mabelle, 6; Ray, 2.7 In 1881 their five children died in a diptheria epidemic. Ray, 3, on May 28; Mable, 7, on June 1; Ernest, 10, on June 2; Winnifred, 12, on June 5; and Blanche, 9, on June 11. They are buried in Crab Orchard Cemetery.8
She and Philo Walbridge appeared on the census of 1900 at Main Street, Crab Orchard, Johnson, Nebraska; Philo, 56, born January 1844, married 32 years, landlord, rented house, born Iowa, father born New York, mother Vermont; Eliza S., wife, 50, born January 1850, 10 births, 4 children living, born Indiana, father born Kentucky, mother Indiana. At home were: Faith E., 18, born ? 1881, Nebraska; Grace, 16, born ? 1883, Nebraska, Mamie, 15, born Feb 1885, Nebraska, Isabella, 10, born Nov 1889, Nebraska. Enumerated with the family were John D. McKee, grandfather, 78, widower, born Dec 1821 Kentucky, parents born Kentucky, and three boarders.9
She and Philo Walbridge removed to Sansarc, Stanley, South Dakota, in 1908.10 They appeared on the census of 1910 at Township 6 North, Range 26 EBHM, Stanley, South Dakota; Philo, 65, butcher, owned meat market, owned farm #132; Susan, 61, nurse, employed as physician's assistant, 10 births, 4 children living. They were married 42 years.11 In 1915 they returned to Crab orchard. She and Philo Walbridge appeared on the census of 8 Jan 1920 at Canfield Street, Crab Orchard, Western Twp.,, Johnson, Nebraska; Philo, 74, butcher, owned own shop, owned hous free; Elizabeth S., 69, born Indiana, father born Kentucky, mother born Pennsylvania.12

She died on 19 Dec 1928 at home of her daughter, Mrs. H. A. Welsch, Crab Orchard, Johnson, Nebraska, at age 78; She was aged 78 years, 11 months and 3 days.13 "Mrs. Walbridge was a life-long member of the Methodist church. She was a woman of fine Christian character, a loving wife and mother, and a true friend. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at one o'clock and were conducted by Rev. R. J. Mohlzahn."14
She was buried on 21 Dec 1928 at Crab Orchard Cemetery, Crab Orchard, Johnson, Nebraska.15

1911 In 1912 Morris E. Kimber was a rancher, living at 5th and Mesa in Montrose, Colorado, (Lizzie J.)
1913

Morris proved up on a tract in 34 and 35, 4N 45W in 1919, and acquired another piece for Stock in 1920. His homestead witnesses were Lawrence Mitchell, James Cross, Evan Garton, and Henry Rears.

Morris registered with a Wray address, born July 17, 1890 at Wray, farming with a wife and four children.
In 1920 - living out in the sandhills, Morris is 29, Elizabeth J. 28, Margaret E. 10, Clifford K. 8, J. Kenneth 6, Mary E. 4, Lola J. 2, and Velma T. four months.
In 1930 Yuma County, Morris and Elizabeth have Clifford 18, J. Kenneth 16, Mary E. 14, Lora 12, and Velma 10.
Morris Erskin Kimber 1890-1944, and Elizabeth Josephine (Fike) Kimber 1891-1977 are buried in Wray # 74087925.
John Kenneth "Kenny" Kimber 1913-1986 is buried in Wray # 76154215.
Margaret married Joseph Boone Starr Jun 19, 1927 in Wray, Colorado. After his sudden death, she later married Clarence Cruse."
Margaret 1909-2001 is buried in Wray, as is Joseph Boone Starr -1907-1930.

Velma Irene Kimber 1919-1935 is buried in Wray, #76154510.

Mary married Archie Crouse Aug 23, 1931 in Yuma, CO. They later divorced 1937. She married Bernard Leon Jordan on Dec 4, 1941.
Mary 1915-1984 is buried in Thornton # 72508327.

Ogden, Utah - Mrs. Lola June Kimber Brethouwer, 45, 469 29th, wife of Rev. Kenneth Brethouwer, died this morning, December 14, 1962, at her home. Mrs. Brethouwer was born June 21, 1917, in Wray, Colo., a daughter of Morris and Elizabeth Fike Kimber. She was married to Rev. Brethouwer on Jan. 16, 1937, in Wray, Colo. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and member of the Ministerial Wives Auxiliary. She was a licensed minister. She had been active in PTA. She lived in Wray and Stoneham, Colo., prior to coming to Ogden 10 years ago. Surviving are her husband, four daughter, Mrs. R.E. (Charlotte) Crout, Anderson, S.C.; Mrs. Thomas E. (Carol) Beasely, Mary, Maria and Kerry Brethouwer, all of Ogden; two grandchildren, her mother of Wray, Colo.; two brothers, Clifford Kimber, Palo Alto, Calif.; Kenneth Kimber, Wray; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Crouse, Wray; Mrs. Bernard Jordan, Rantoul, Ill. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary with Rev R.G. Fulford and Rev Peter Pilot of the Assembly of God Church officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday prior to services. Burial in Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
