In 1920 Valley Precinct, north of Wray, Henry C. F. Rears is 48, Nellie M. Rears 31 Wife, Christofer L. E. Rears 12 Son, Emil A. Rears 11 Son, Annie M. Rears 10 Daughter, Eva L. Rears 8 Daughter, Chester M. Rears 6 Son, Ray E. A. Rears 3 Son, Henrietta M. Rears 2 Daughter, and Earl P. Rears 0 Son.

In 1921 Henry proved up 321 acres in sections 30 nd 31 , and another 120 acres in section 30 for Stock Raising in 4N 44W.

July 1933 "Chester Rears, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rears of north of Wray, added another misfortune to a long list of hard luck this summer, when he fell from a horse on Tuesday refracturing a collar bone that he broke about a month ago in an accident at St. Francis. The youth was brought to Wray where the fracture was reduced. This has been a bad summer for young Rears with two broken collar bones and a rattle snake bite as major misfortunes."

October 1935 Wray "Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rears visited Tuesday in Holyoke wth their daughters, Mrs. Clinton Kinch and Henrietta Rears. "

"Funeral services for Henry C. F. Rears, resident of this community since 1915, who died in a Denver hospital Wednesday of last week, August 23, 1944, after a lingering illness, were held Monday afternoon. A private service for the family was held at the Rears home, followed by a public service at the Lockwood Mortuary. Rev. Louis Haruf was in charge of the services. Burial was in Grandview cemetery.
Mr. Rears had been in failing health for six years. The deceased was the son of Henry and Annie Rears, and was born at Hanover, Germany, on October 28, 1869. He was 76 years and nine months old at the time of his death.
He came with his parents to America when he was 12 years old, and grew to manhood in Richardson county, Nebraska. In 1893 he married Miss Emma Fintel and two sons were born to them. On August 27, 1906, he married Miss Nellie Alberti at Omaha, Nebraska, and this couple were the parents of six sons and five daughters, all of whom with the widow, survive.
The surviving children are John R. of Humboldt, Nebraska, Henry R. of Clearfield, South Dakota; Christopher R. of Dayton, Ohio; Emil R. of Camp Roberts, California; Mrs. Anna Kinch of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Eva Petefish of Pacific Palisades, California; Chester R. of Clarks Fork, Idaho; Wray R. of Wray; Earl R. with the United States Army in France; Karl R. of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Mrs. Ruby Baker of Wray; Mrs. Beulah Schmid, of Pacific Palisades, California, and Mrs. Henrietta Phillips of Venice, California.
Besides these, there are ten grandchildren, three sisters and one brother who survive Mr. Rears, with one brother and one sister having preceded him in death.
Mr. Rears came to the Wray community in 1915 and homesteaded on a farm seventeen miles northwest of Wray, where he made his home until February of this year when he and his wife moved to the property In southwest Wray."

May 1945 "Mrs. Nellie Mae Rears and Mrs. Lou Orcutt, cousins, and both widely known residents of Wray, were the brifflts In a pretty double wedding ’ held at toe home of Mrs, Rears’ father, L. H. Alberti, at Springfield, this state, on Monday noon, May 14. The grooms were, respectively, Mr. James Harding and Mr. Asa Wlneinger, both Tribune, Kansas, business men. The impressive double ring ceremony was used for both weddings and was read by Rev. S. E. Randell. Both brides were given in marriage by Mr. Alberti, who is 91 years old. The ladies wore matching cream colored dresses and carried white Bibles. Their corsages, gifts from Mr. Alberti, were of tiny pink roses. The evening of the marriage, there was a wedding dinner for the two couples at the (home of Mrs. Blanche Krammer in Tribune. After honeymooning for a week, the newlyweds came on to Wray, arriving here Sunday to receive the congratulations of their many Wray friends."

March 1946 "Mr. and Mrs. James Harding ware called to Springfield, this state, Monday of last week by the critical Mnaaa of the lady's father, L. H. Alberti, who is 92 yaars old. The aged man made a remarkable improvement considering his age, and the Wray people were able to return"

May 1946 "rs. James Harding received word Monday noon of the death of her father, IL. H. Alberti, at his home at Springfield. He was nine-ty-three years old. Mrs. Harding left immediately for Springfield where she wUI ha joined by Mr. Harding who had gone to Tribune, Kansas, to look after business interests."

August 1948 Wray "Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rears and daughters of Stella, Nebraska, visited Tuesday with Mrs. Nellie Harding who is now improved after suffering a heart attack two months ago. Mr. Rears is a brother of the late Henry Rears. "

June 1952 "Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mosely of Trinidad, Texas, and Capt. and Mrs. Carl Bock and daughter, Sharon, of Barstow, Calif., are visiting here at the James Harding home. The ladies are daughters of Mr. Harding. Capt. Bock has just arrived from serving in Korea and is being transferred to Philadelphia."

April 1954 "James Harding failed to appear on Monday to contest the action of Nellie Mae Harding for a divorce and an interlocutory degree was granted Mrs. Harding restoring her previous name of Nellie Mae Rears. "

September 1966 "Mrs. Nellie Rears and Harold Morris were united in married September 22 in Benkelman, Neb. Rev. William Whittaker performed the ceremony in the Benkelman Methodist Church. Mrs. Maud Tofflemoyer and Earl Morrison of Laird attended the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Morris went on a wedding trip to Springfield to visit her brother, Arthur Alberti. "

March 1949 Wray "Mrs. James Harding has received word that her son, Emil Rears, and his wife were injured in an accident recently near Dunnigan, California.
Mrs. Rears was hospitalized with a broken back after a two car collision involving the Rears automobile and one driven by James Carrazzo of San Francisco. Mr. Rears escaped with only minor injuries but the Rears machine was practically demolished.
Carazzo was cited for driving without due caution following the collision.

April 30, 1953 Wray "Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rears became the parents of a daughter when Patricia Lee was born early Saturday morning. "

Also April 30 "Earl Rears, an employee of The Gazette office, was hospitalized Saturday night in the Community hospital at Wray with a cracked ankle bone, head and neck injuries and numerous bruises, cuts and abrasions after the car he was driving left the roadway on Highway 51, about a mile this side of Wauneta and rolled over several times. Undersherlff Harold Polly, who investigated the accident, said the CAr skidded in the ditch at the side of the road for something like 300 feet then rolled over three and one-fourth times. Mr. Rears was thrown from the car and when the accident was discovered was lying about 35 feet from the completely wrecked automobile. The accident was discovered by Wray people who were returning from the music festival at Sterling who reported it to local officers. Mr. Rears was removed to the hospital by the Lockwood ambulance. His condition is satisfactory this week. "

They are making their home at 818 Clay Street. Mrs. Renzelman is employed as presser and silk finisher at Bing's Cleaners and Mr. Renzelman is employed as tank truck salesman at the Consumers Co-op, Inc. "

April 1978 "Funeral services for Mable M. Morrison were held Tuesday, April 18 at 2 p.m. al Spellman Schmidt Mortuary with Rev. Morris Coggin officiating. Interment was at Grandview Cemetery.
Mabel Matilda Morrison was born in Trenton, Neb. on April 24, 1905 and passed away April 15, 1978 at the age of 72. She was the oldest child of August and Kathryn Swanson. As an infant she moved with her family to Wray where she spent most of her life.
She married Earl Morrison December 25, 1953 in Benkelman, Neb. She was a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband Earl of Laird; two daughters, Velma Renzelman of Ft. Collins and Jody Biankis Trujilla of Greeley; a son, Charles Anderson of Laird; four grandchildren and one great grandchilden"

April 1962 Arvada "Surprise visitors at the Earl Rears home, 8113 Hoyt court, on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Petefish from Vancouver, Washington. Mrs. Petefish is Rears' sister, whom he had not seen for 13 years. The couple flew to Denver to celebrate the occasion of the seventy-fifth birthday of Mr. Petefish's mother Mrs. Jessie Mase.

Mr. Day, who lived at 153 S. Canosa ct., died Saturday in Presbyterian Hospital after a long illness. He was 71.
He was born Nov. 5, 1896, in Abington, 111., and attended Nebraska public schools and the University of Nebraska after service in World War 1. In 1919, he was married to the former Miss Flsle Waechter in Yuma, Colo., where he had been a farmer.
The couple moved to Ft. Collins in 1928 and in 1040 to Denver; He became s draftsman for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in 1963 after 24 |years.
He was a member of South Broadway Christian Church and Leyden-Childs-Wickenham Post No. l of the American Legion.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are sons, Dwayne L. Hayward, Calt. Rebert W. of Bellevue, Wash. and Donald E. of Denver; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Moorhouse of Denver; a brother, Harold V. of Sweetewater, Texas, a sister, Mrs. Mary Clark, Colorado Springs, Colo. ; 17 grandehildren and two greatgrandchildren."

Janaury 1950 "Wray Rears, of north of Wray, received an unusual letter recently. It was from David R. Wray of Greybull, Wyo. Mr. Wray said that he was intrigued when he saw "Wray” Rears in a newspaper advertisement, and wrote for information about the town of Wray. He said in the letter that the town of Wray was named for his father, J. T. Wray. He wanted to know how large the town was, what was the principal industry and what crops were raised."

June 1959 "Diane Mars of Montezuma, Kansas, was a houseguest the latter part of last week in the Verl Goodman home. She was a guest of Veriene Goodman, former classmate, when Diane and her family were former residents of this community."

He was a Jack-of-all-trades that could fix anything, an amazing fisherman, and defender of his family.

September 1944 "The rodeo held last Sunday at the Clarence Donovan ranch northwest of Wray attracted a large crowd. It has been a long time since.a rodeo was held in this vicinity and many were eager to see the broncs and riders in action.
The principal bronc riders were Doc Rose, Chester Rears and Bill Williams. The judges of the several events were Ashton Wilson, Emil Peterson and Anthony Olds.
In the calf roping, the following participated: Ashton Wilson, Bill Williams, Bill Goss and Maude Kouba.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was some fancy rope work by Jack Blackmore, a professional. During the rope act a clown offered much amusement for the spectators in demonstrating his roping ability. Incidentally the clown did some very neat work.
The biggest surprise to the crowd was the fact that the laugh-provoking clown was none other than Virgil Reed.
Miss Maude Kouba and her well trained horse presented several acts that were applauded loud and long. She did some fancy rope handling while standing on her saddled horse, with the horse stretched out on the ground; she then commanded her horse to ge up and she continued her rope act while standing on the horse’s back.
Last but not least, the day afforded quite an opportunity for many members of the local riding club to spend the day riding out on range, over the hills of short grass and sage brush, in a truly western atmosphere"

"Lila left us Feb. 17th, 2016 in Vancouver, WA to join her husband, Karl H. Rears. She was born in Eckley, CO Dec. 16th, 1924 to William and Myrtle Barker, the fourth of six children. Her father was a cattle ranch foreman and her mother a cook on the ranch.
On June 1st, 1942, Lila married her sweetheart, Karl H. Rears, who at the time was stationed in Fort Bliss, TX. In Feb. of 1944, she gave birth to their daughter, Margaret Elaine Rears, while Karl was fighting the war in Germany.
After Karl was discharged from the service, they moved to Albany, OR for short period of time, then to Vancouver, WA where they proudly owned and operated K & L One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaning in the Hazel Dell and Mill Plain areas for numerous years. Lila and Karl were also prominent in the community of horse racing through their Rears Thoroughbred Race Farm in Brush Prairie, WA. During the course of their years, they owned several successful racehorses, such as Dauhoya, Dandy Fellow, Fireball Lad, Smokey Baron, and their most famous horse of all, Flashway.
Lila enjoyed horses, gardening, sewing, and traveling.
She will be missed and loved by the family she leaves behind.
Lila is survived by one brother, Bob Barker of Wray, CO; grandson, Randy A. Whiting of Troutdale, OR; granddaughter, Erin M. Freisen of Vancouver, WA; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Karsten Friesen of Vancouver, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews throughout California and Colorado.

"Graveside service for Connor H. "Bud" Petefish was Monday in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. He died Thursday in a Vancouver hospital at age 76.
Mr. Petefish was born in Denver, but had lived in Vancouver the last 27 years. He was a retired employee of U.S. National Bank in Portland. Mr. Petefish served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, and afterward for a time served on the executive board of Farmer Brothers Coffee in Torrance, California. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Second Ward, Vancouver.

"A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Gardens for Eva L. Petefish of Vancouver, Wash. Mrs. Petefish died of a heart attack Thursday in her home at the age of 80.
She was born Nov. 6, 1911, in Benkelman, Neb., and grew up in southeast Colorado. Her maiden name was Rears. In 1937 she married Connor Petefish and the couple later moved to Pacific Palisades, Calif. They moved to Vancouver about 25 years ago. Her husband died in 1987.
Mrs. Petefish worked as a trust officer at U.S. Bank in Portland and retired about 15 years ago.
Survivors include her sisters, Annie Duman of Vancouver, Henrietta Wilson of Duluth, Minn., Ruby Baker of Gillette, Wyo., and Bea Hall of Portland; and a brother, Earl Rears of Arvada, Colo. Oregonian, Sunday, November 24, 1991 "
