Hiram E. Cheney, son Cloyd E. Cheney, Alvin

Hyrum E. Cheney proved up a quarter in 20, 4N 43W in October, 1898, and timber-claimed one in December 1898.


1898 Wray "H. E. Cheney is the happiest man in town. Cause: Mrs. C. and the children are home again. They have been in Iowa for the past month."

November 1898 "H. E. Cheney is corn-feeding three cars of steers in some lots north of the mill."


1899 Wray "H. E. Cheney is building a dwelling house on a lot east of T. C. Jennings new place. A handsome, commodious structure is contemplated."
May 1899 "H. E. Cheney has purchased a handsome new Kimball organ for his daughters."

September 23, 1899 "Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Cheney and children returned from Anderson, Ia. yesterday. Mrs. Ester Inman, mother of Mrs. Cheney, died on the 9th inst."


January 1900 "Mr. Joe Dewey of Neola, Ia., arrived Tuesvlny for a visit with his sister, Mrs. C. O. Cheney. "
"Cloyd Cheney caused his parents considerable anxiety Wednesday by breaking loose from his tether and wandering away. He was finally rounded up with a number of other boys near the mill. "

January 20, 1900 "The family of H. E. Cheney moved into their new home Wednesday, and last night the neighbors gathered in for a house warming. A big crowd and a good time was reported."

January 5, 1901 "H . E . Cheney this week stopped his paper because we called attention to a law he had violated. The item was published by the stock inspector, and we knew not to whom it referred. The law is printed in another column, of this issue "


May 4, 1901 Wray "Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Cheney and Cloyd left Thursday evening for a few weeks visit at Clarinda, Iowa and other points.

February 1906 "Bent Fichter, of Red Oak, Iowa, arrived in Wray Wednesday and made a short visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. E Cheney."

May 18, 1906 "Mrs. H. E. Cheney died at St. Lukes hospital in Denver, last Sunday morning. The body was shipped direct to Randolhp (sic), Iowa, forinterment, and was accompanied by the bereaved husband and family, and Mrs. G. B. Forsman, of Palisade, Colorado, a daughter of Mrs. Cheney, who in accordance with her mother's dying wish, will take care of the infant child. Mrs. Cheney had been a sufferer from epilepsy for the last three years. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community."
June 1, 1906 "H. E. Cheney and family arrived from Shenandoah, Iowa, last Monday, where they had taken the remains of Mrs. Cheney for interment."

November 29, 1907 "H. E. Cheney ate his Thanksgiving dinner in McClellan, Iowa, with his mother."

December 1907 "Mrs. Ben Forsman and little sister, Leila, arrived in Wray Tuesday from Palisade, for a several weeks visit at the home of her father, H. E. Cheney."

March 1908 "H. E. Cheney returned Wednesday from a several weeks visit in Iowa. He was accompanied home by 0. C. Cheney, his brother, and wife, of Carson, Iowa, who will make their home here."

September 1909 "Mrs. B. F. Miller and little daughter and Mrs. G. W. Hamilton of Carson Iowa arrived Tursday for a visit with their sister Mrs. Osa Cheney."

Mrs. Milton Cheney and sons Milton and Clyde, arrived Tuesday and are visiting Mrs. Cheney's brother-in-laws Ed and Osn Cheney. Mrs. Cheney's home is in Landcaster, California, but they have been visiting relatives in Red Oak,Iowa."

Sarah Jane "Sary" (Inman) Cheney, dying in Wray, is buried in Pottawattamie County, Iowa "Daughter of Samuel C. and Esther (Bake) Inman."

December 12, 1912 "H. E. Cheney shipped three cars of cattle to Chicago the first of the week. He accompanied the shipment and expects to make an extended visit in Iowa and Illinois before returning home."

Hyrum E. Cheney married Olga Ostriech on January 19, 1917, recorded in Kit Carson County.


Hiram Edwin Cheney 1861-1919 dying in Wray is buried in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

In 1920 Wray, Olga Cheney is widowed, 37, born in Germany, immigrating in 1903, with Freda Ostrich 13 born in New York , Pauline E. 4 in Colorado. Mildred S. Cheney and Melvin S. both 2 born in Colorado, and Andrew H. ten months Colorado.

In 1920 Olga, Cheney, formerly Olga Oestreich, widow of Otto W. Oestreich, proved up a quaret in 11S 45W, Kit Carson County.
In 1921 Olga Cheney, widow of Hyrum E. Cheney, proved up land in sections 20 and 29, 4N 43W.

1922 Wray " Margaret J. Cheney, Plaintiff, vs. Olga Cheney, Mary Esther Forsman, Rosetta A. Penfold, Cloyd E. Cheney, Leila M. Arnold, minor,(Cloyd E . Cheney, guardian), and Melvin Sidney Cheney, Mildred Sadie Cheney, Andrew Cheney, minors, (Olga Cheney, guardian), heirs of Hyrum E. Cheney, deceased, and George W. McConnell, administrator of the estate of Hyrum E. Cheney, deceased, Defendants." This was regarding a note of $3,000 on property in 4N 43W. "
1922 Wray " Mrs. Olga Cheney and family of near Juanita spent the week-end in Wray at the Chas. Bolender home."

In 1928 Olga Lohman, formerly Olga Cheney, widow of Hyrum E. Cheney, proved up land in sections 5 and 6, 3N 43W.

In 1930 Wray, Olga is married to Henry Lohman, 66. Andrew, Mildred, and Melvin Cheney are with them. So is Pauline Ostrich 14 born in Colorado.

In 1940 Sacramento County, California, Olga is 58, divorced born in Ireland, living in Lodi in 1935. She's housekeeper for Eugene Kenefick 39 and his stepfather Michael Donovan 72.

October 29, 1943 Lodi, California

In 1950, 1955 and 1956 Olga Lohman (wid Henry C) is living at 235 Cherry Drive in Stockton, California.

Olga Lohman 1882-1964 is buried in Lodi, California # 158184672.
She was born January 19, 1882 in Germany to Felix Kraschevski and Christian Schneider.

In 1940 San Joaquin County, California, Mildred is a beauty operator 22, married to Fred Laughland 24, Kansas. Her brother ANdrew Cheney 21 is with them, a tractor operator.


Mildred Sadie Cole, 92, of Lodi, CA, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2009. Millie was born Mildred Sadie Cheney on November 8, 1917, in Rey [should be Wray], CO, and moved to Lodi in 1932.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Cole; and her son, Rodger Cole.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Cole of Lodi; her daughter, Linda Cole of Sacramento; five grandchildren: Michael Cole of Arvada, CO, Laura Cole of Lodi, Kelly Seurer of Lakewood, CO, Douglas Cole of Galt, and Craig Cole of Galt; and nine great-grandchildren.
Millie was a member and past Nobel Grand of the Woodbridge Rebekah Lodge, and also served as an officer on the board of their Children's Home; a member of the Farm Home Department; a 4-H leader; and a parishioner of the Church of God Seventh Day.
In addition to her family, Millie enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, sewing, camping, fishing, traveling, and playing board and card games, especially Pinochle, Cribbage, and BINGO!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Millie's name to the Loel Center and Gardens, an organization that offers services that help seniors remain independent, healthy, active, and fulfilled in their daily lives.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, after the New Year.

A big man, with a bigger heart died tragically following an accident on his farm. In November of 1947, Butch was born on his family's farm, and raised by his parents to work the land, help his friends, and treasure his family. As a young man Butch joined the Army, serving his term in Germany. He returned to home to marry, and farm his land, which he so loved.
Butch is preceded in death by parents Malvin and Helen Cheney. He is survived by two sisters Judy Dennett, and Karen A. Queening, wife Kathy Cheney, son Jon-Paul Cheney, and four grandchildren.
To honor his memory there will be a gathering on August 6th at 2:00pm. At Thornton Community Hall 26950 N. Sacramento Blvd. Thornton Ca. 95686.

February 28, 1908 "Thomas R. Penfold and Miss Rosetta A. Cheney, of this city, were married Tuesday afternoon at three o clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Barnes, of Eckley, by Rev. Moyer, of the Presbyterian church of Wray, the bride and groom returning here Wednesday evening. Mr. Penfold is the son of a prominent mill owner of Fort Morgan, and during his residence of about two years in this city has made many friends us well as winning one of Wray's most popular young ladies. The bride is the daughter of H. E. Cheney, has spent most of her life in this city, and has a large circle of friends who wish her much happiness in the now relation which she has entered. Mr. and Mrs. Penfold will spend a few weeks in Wray, after which they will go to Fort Morgan, where they will visit for a time with Mr. Penfold's parents. The Rattler takes pleasure in joining with many friends in extending wishes for a long and happy life."

ESTHER

August 31, 1900 "Esther Cheney, eldest daughter of H. E. Cheney of Wray, had her jaw broken by being thrown from a horse Wednesday."

G.B. Forsman of Palisade and Miss Esther Cheney of Wray were married in Wray in February 1906.
January 31, 1908 "Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Forsman, who have been visiting at the home of Mrs. Forsman's father, H. E. Cheney, for the past few weeks, returned Sunday to their home at Palisade, Colorado. Mr. Forsman is manager of the Peach Growers Association in thnt famous fruit center."

March 18, 1910 "H. E. Cheney just received word that he was grandpa. The word was as follows: Born Saturday, the 12th inst to Mr. and Mrs. Ben. Forsman, of Palisade, Colo., a 9 - pound boy. Mrs. Forsman will be remembered here as Esther Cheney."
October 8, 1910 Palisade "Mrs. Ben Forsman gave a party for her sister, Lola Cheney, Thursday afternoon to celebrate her eighth birthday. Games and refreshments passed the time pleasantly. The guest list included the Misses Josephine Schneibel, Mabel Port, Eunice Pierson, Seerie Forsman, Zeima Simpson, Florence Hatter and Leona Lilja."

May 1911 "Mrs. Esther Cheney Forsman is visiting in Wray and vicinity, a guest of her father, H. E. Cheney. She now resides in Denver."

LEILA

Leila Cheney Arnold filed suit against Andrew Arnold in Mesa County, Colorado in 1928.


CLOYD

June 15, 1905 "Last Saturday being the 12th birthday of Cloyd Cheney his mother invited in a company of young friends in the evening, and they celebrated the occasion in great glee. Innocent games and music enlivened the time, and a dainty luncheon climaxed an enjoyable evening. Cloyd was recipient of numerous presents from his young friends."

October 28, 1910 "Cloyd Cheney has been enjoying a visit with his cousin, Vernon Steele, of Denver.

Cloyd E. Cheney married Frances ChurchMarch 9, 1914, recorded in Kit Carson County.

1914 "Among the many gifts of Santa Claus in this section was a fine boy left at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Cheney north of town on Christmas day."

April 1915 "Mrs. E. M. Church of Kansas City, arrived Monday for a visit with her daughters, Mrs. Cloyd Cheney and Mrs. Sam Arnold."

February 1916 "Mrs. Cloyd Cheney and baby were brought to Wray Friday from their home eighteen miles northeast of town and are being taken care of at the home of Mrs. Mary Staininger. Mrs. Cheney was ill, and it was thought best to bring her to Wray where she could be under the care of a physician."

1916 " Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Cheney Thursday, November 10, a little daughter. Mrs. Cheney is in Wray at the home of Mrs. Mary Staininger."

Cloyd proved up two quarters in 27, 4N 44W in 1919.

July 24, 1919 "Mrs. Cloyd Cheney, who lives several miles north of Wray, returned Wednesday evening. She was called to Burlington, Colo., to attend her mothers funeral."

Cloyd E. Cheney 1893-1969 is buried in Jefferson County, Colorado # 83884088, with Frances A. (Church) Cheney 1895-1974, # 83884089.

Charles proved up a quarter in 28, 4N 43W in 1899, and timber-claimed another in 1900.


December 25, 1913 " Born, to Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Cheney, Monday, December 23, a boy baby. Mr. ane Mrs. Cheney moved into Wray two weeks ago from their ranch twenty miles north and will spend the winter in town. They are occupying the Mrs. Blanche Sturgeon residence in the east part of town."

Willi Oestreich, 7, arrived in New York April 21, 1910, nephew of Reininer Grossklaus 31 adn Paula 32.

William A. Oestreich married Rose Levendusky on April 21, 1928, recorded in Morgan County.


He's a farm hand in 1930 Morgan County, Colorado, 29, with Rose 32 born in Kansas and Betty May seven months.

Theodora 1899-1976 is buried in Fresno, and # 141853218 says Rose is buried in Saint Josephats, Belle, Kansas.



In 1940 William is in San Jose, California, a painter, 37 - in Denver in 1935, married but no spouse.

William "Aestreich" May 25, 1902- June 10, 1970 is buried in Gridley-Biggs Cemetery wtih Pansy O. October 3, 1902- Dec 7, 1993.

William married Pansy O. Young in Carson City, Nevada Janaury 26, 1967.

Gerald Leroy Jones was born Feb 16, 1950 in Fresno County, mother's maiden name Aestreich.
